Abstract

The conservation of biological natural resources and ecosystems in Indonesia is still characterized by a centralized and state-dominated approach, as regulated by Law No. 5 of 1990 and Law No. 32 of 2024. This centralized system marginalizes Indigenous Peoples (Masyarakat Hukum Adat, or MHA), disregarding their local wisdom, such as sasi in Maluku and customary forest management by Dayak communities. While the new legislation mentions the involvement of MHA, their role remains symbolic, lacking meaningful participation or authority. This research aims to identify the gaps in conservation regulations concerning MHA and to formulate a progressive policy reform based on the principle of greatest happiness, derived from Bentham's utilitarianism and Satjipto Rahardjo's progressive legal theory. Using a normative juridical method and qualitative analysis, the study finds that legal inconsistencies, overlapping regulations, and tokenism contribute to ecological and social injustice. The study proposes a policy reform framework based on four pillars: recognition of customary law, full decentralization of conservation governance to MHA, mandatory application of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC), and fair benefit-sharing mechanisms. The proposed model, integrating Indigenous Self-Governance and Full Community-Based Conservation, strengthens legal certainty and justice, reflecting a human-centered and sustainable legal approach. Successful indigenous conservation practices, such as in Sungai Utik and Wehea Forest, illustrate the viability of this model.

Abstract

Alam Jaya (Toko Subur Union) Mamuju.

Abstract

Worm infestation due to Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) infection remains a public health problem, especially among elementary school children who frequently interact with contaminated soil. This condition is a major concern because it can cause long-term health problems, particularly in terms of physical growth and development of children. This study aims to identify the presence of STH worm eggs and larvae in soil and fecal samples of children in Bekoso Village, Pasir Belengkong District, Paser Regency, East Kalimantan. This study used a descriptive approach with a cross-sectional design. The samples used consisted of 23 soil points taken from oil palm plantations with sandy and loose soil criteria, as well as 16 fecal samples from elementary school children. Fecal examination was carried out using the Kato-Katz method to detect worm eggs, while the soil was examined using the Baermann technique to detect worm larvae. The results showed that 25% of children's fecal samples were infected with worm eggs, with 12.5% containing hookworm eggs, 12.5% Taenia sp. eggs, and 6.25% Ascaris lumbricoides eggs. In soil samples, 60.87% tested positive for Strongyloides stercoralis larvae and 26.09% tested positive for Ascaris lumbricoides eggs. These findings indicate a high risk of STH infection in children in the area. Environmental factors such as soil moisture, soil texture suitable for worm breeding, and poor personal hygiene practices are suspected to be the main causes of the spread of infection. This study emphasizes the importance of education on clean and healthy living behaviors (PHBS) and improving environmental sanitation to reduce cases of worm infection, especially in endemic areas such as Bekoso Village. More comprehensive prevention efforts are urgently needed to address this problem and improve public health, especially among elementary school children.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Brand Image, Brand Trust, and Brand Ambassadors on Purchase Decisions in the context of the mid-range smartphone industry on Lombok Island. Involving 120 respondents, this study analyzes the extent to which these three variables play a role in shaping consumer behavior and preferences. The results show that Brand Image has a dominant influence in determining consumer choices. Consumers tend to be more attracted to smartphone brands with a positive image, which then has implications for their purchase decisions. Furthermore, Brand Trust has been proven to be an important foundation in building long-term relationships between consumers and brands. A high level of trust encourages consumers to choose products from brands that are considered credible and reliable. Brand Ambassadors also play a significant role in improving purchase decisions, as seen by the positive correlation between Brand Ambassador effectiveness and increased consumer interest in the product. The practical implications of this study highlight the importance for smartphone companies to focus on strengthening brand image through consistent communication strategies and positive customer experiences. Efforts to build brand trust must be carried out by maintaining product quality, fulfilling brand promises, and creating transparency in after-sales service. Furthermore, selecting a Brand Ambassador whose values and characteristics align with the target market segment can increase consumer appeal and loyalty to the brand. This study contributes to the consumer behavior literature by offering a comprehensive analysis of the relationship between Brand Image, Brand Trust, Brand Ambassadorship, and Purchase Decisions. These findings enhance understanding of the factors influencing consumer purchasing decisions in the mid-range smartphone market on Lombok Island and provide strategic recommendations for industry players to enhance their brand competitiveness and success.
