Abstract

Learning the Lontara script in elementary schools still faces various obstacles, especially in terms of less interactive teaching methods and limitations of interesting learning media. Conventional methods such as lectures and writing exercises in books are often less effective in improving student understanding. This study aims to analyze the learning needs of the Lontara script with a Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic (VAK) approach to better suit the learning characteristics of students. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and questionnaires to students and teachers in elementary schools. The results showed that 40% of students have visual learning styles, 35% auditory, and 25% kinesthetic, so learning media that accommodates these three learning styles is needed. The visual approach can be applied through infographics and animation, auditory through songs or voice narratives, and kinesthetics through writing exercises based on digital technology. The conclusion of this study confirms that the integration of the VAK approach in learning the Lontara script can increase the effectiveness and interest in learning of students. Therefore, it is recommended to develop technology-based learning media, such as augmented reality (AR) and digital applications, to create learning that is more innovative, interactive, and in accordance with the times.

Abstract

Despite its critical role in improving learning, the quality of teaching practices often stagnates due to the limited use of systematic reflective approaches among educators. This study investigates Lesson Study as a structured model to enhance reflective teaching and strengthen instructional quality through a qualitative descriptive-analytical literature review. This paper synthesizes findings from more than 50 scholarly sources, including Scopus-indexed articles, SINTA-accredited national journals, conference proceedings, and institutional reports from OECD, UNESCO, and the World Bank, published between 2010 and 2025. Through a systematic search using keywords related to “Lesson Study” and “teaching reflection,” data were analyzed thematically with the support of NVivo. The review offers an integrated synthesis of how Lesson Study contributes to teaching effectiveness, professional teacher reflection, and student learning, while also mapping contextual barriers within the Indonesian education system. Findings indicate that Lesson Study can enhance teaching effectiveness through the plan–do–see–reflect cycle, foster a culture of professional reflection, and support gains in student learning outcomes, although its implementation in Indonesia remains inconsistent due to time limitations, administrative demands, and hierarchical work culture. Results further suggest that Lesson Study may be more effective than workshops or individual self-evaluation because of its collaborative and evidence-based nature. To strengthen sustainability, strategies include alignment with the Guru Penggerak program, dedicated reflection time, and the development of cross-school professional communities. Overall, this review highlights the potential of Lesson Study to support long-term improvement in teaching quality and contribute to the achievement of SDG 4 in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the application of the andragogy approach in improving students’ critical thinking skills based on research results from the last ten years (2015–2025). The method used is a literature study by reviewing various national and international scientific publications. The results of the review indicate that the application of andragogy principles, such as independent learning, reflective learning experiences, and problem-based learning, has been proven to contribute to improving students’ critical thinking skills. However, most of the research is still descriptive and not many uses experimental designs. Therefore, further, more in-depth research is needed to strengthen the empirical evidence of the causal relationship between andragogy and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to develop teaching materials based on the pedagogical framework of Deep Learning. In the era of globalization and the industrial revolution 4.0, creative thinking as a 21st century skill is crucial, but students experience a "creativity crisis" due to the dominant memorization approach. Initial observations showed a low Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking as fluency, flexibility, and originality in Palopo, influenced by Bugis-Makassar cultural factors and limited resources. The research method used a systematic literature following PRISMA guidlines, analyzing 50 sources from the journal Scopus, the national journal SINTA, and seminar proceedings (2015-2025). Thematic analysis resulted in themes of deep learning concepts (Fullan, 2018), creativity indicators (Torrance, 1974), teaching material design, and implementation challenges. The results showed that deep learning with aware, meaningful, and encouraging elements increased creativity by up to 35% through thematic modules based on local culture, such as Bugis folklore and oil palm waste management projects. The ADDIE framework is proposed for development, in line with the Independent Curriculum. These teaching materials have the potential to address the stagnation of creativity, with recommendations for teacher training and contextual adaptation for replication in eastern Indonesia.
