Abstract

This study explores how destination attributes, such as accessibility, natural attractions, facilities, and disaster knowledge, influence tourists' risk perceptions, ultimately shaping their travel preparedness. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 806 tourists visiting a tsunami-prone beach destination in Indonesia. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was implemented in the analysis. The findings indicate that accessibility and well-developed tourist facilities tend to lower tourists’ perceived risk, while disaster knowledge heightens it, leading to improved preparedness. Tourists generally feel safer when destinations offer accessible amenities and infrastructure, yet this sense of security may inadvertently decrease their readiness for disasters. This situation creates a paradox: While enhanced accessibility and high-quality amenities contribute to visitor satisfaction, they can unintentionally lower risk perception and preparedness levels. The study challenges the conventional view that accessibility and amenities are inherently beneficial, highlighting the importance of balancing these attributes with proactive risk management strategies. Destination providers, destination management organizations (DMOs), and governments should enhance tourists’ disaster awareness through well-crafted guidelines, educational campaigns, and community engagement programs; these efforts help equip tourists with the necessary knowledge to respond effectively in emergency situations. At the same time, they contribute to the development of safer and more enjoyable tourist destinations.

Abstract

Abstract

One of the key factors for tourists in choosing a destination is its attractions, both natural and recreational facilities. The general concept suggests that natural attractions and recreational facilities positively influence the decision to visit. This study aims to analyze the impact of these two factors on tourists’ decisions at Situ Bagendit and compare the magnitude of their influence. The revitalization of Situ Bagendit has increased visitor numbers, but many tourists still feel dissatisfied. This research employs a quantitative method with SEM PLS analysis using the Smart PLS 3 application, involving 100 respondents who visited Situ Bagendit between 2018-2023, selected using the Slovin formula and online questionnaires. The results show that natural attractions influence visiting decisions by 68.2%, while recreational facilities account for 23.5%. Thus, natural attractions have a greater impact than recreational facilities on tourists’ decisions to visit Situ Bagendit.

Abstract

Background: Tourism in Bali has grown rapidly, driving economic growth but exacerbating overtourism, where visitor numbers exceed capacity. This leads to environmental damage, resource depletion, and socio-economic problems. Methods: This study uses a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, focusing on publications from 2020 to 2024 from both international and national journals, identifying dominant themes such as environmental, economic, and cultural challenges. Findings: The results reveal that overtourism in Bali significantly affects environmental, economic, and cultural aspects. Strategies such as equitable tourist distribution, infrastructure development in less-developed areas, and sustainable tourism policies are crucial to addressing these challenges. Policies such as tourist limitations (enforcing visiting hours) and restrictions on tourist business development can also help reduce overtourism in Bali. Conclusion: A case study of Nusa Dua highlights capacity management efforts, including event access limitations and stakeholder collaboration, which have been implemented effectively. Nusa Dua not only cooperates with the government and surrounding entrepreneurs, but also with the local community, especially when there are big events being organized. Novelty/Originality of this article: Additionally, this study provides a new perspective by examining how overtourism impacts local communities' connection to their traditions culture, while emphasizing the balance between economic growth, preserving nature and cultural preservation in sustainable tourism.

Abstract

Tourism villages serve as a government strategy to promote equitable development in economic, social, and human resource sectors through the utilization of local potential. The Bandung Regency Government established Regional Regulation No. 07 of 2020 as a legal framework to regulate and guide the sustainable development of tourism villages. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of Regional Regulation No. 07 of 2020 on the achievement of Alamendah Tourism Village as an advanced tourism village in Bandung Regency. The research employs a qualitative approach with policy analysis based on the six evaluation criteria proposed by William N. Dunn, namely effectiveness, efficiency, adequacy, equity, responsiveness, and appropriateness. The findings indicate that the regulation has been effective in encouraging the development of Alamendah Tourism Village through economic empowerment, cultural preservation, and sustainable environmental management. Furthermore, the success of this policy implementation is supported by strong community participation and collaboration among various stakeholders.
