Abstract

Di Era globalisasi yang semakin berkembang menyebabkan anak-anak kurang memiliki karakter yang baik, hal ini dapat dipengaruhi oleh penggunaan gedjet yang berlebihan baik di rumah, di sekolah maupun di lingkungan masyarakat. Saat ini anak sudah banyak yang tidak mendengar nasehat orang tua, guru dan juga sering mem-bully sesama teman. Oleh karena itu dituntut adanya kerjasama antara guru dengan orangtua dalam meningkatkan pendidikan karakter anak didik. Pendidikan bukan hanya sarana penyampaian Ilmu Pengetahuan( transfer knowledge) tetapi juga penanaman nilai karakter ( transfer values) sehingga generasi yang dilahirkan bisa membangun, menciptakan dan mengondisikan suasana lingkungan sekolah berkarakter terutama peserta didik. Tujuan dari Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini adalah untuk mengimplementasikan pendidikan karakter melalui pendekatan Behavioristik terharap guru-guru di sekolah SMA Nasrani-3 Medan. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode ceramah dengan penyajian materi pelatihan . Pengabdian ini dilaksanakan di Sekolah SMA Nasrani-3 Medan . Melalui Kegiatan ini para guru diberi pengetahuan dan wawasan mengenai pendidikan karakter dan pendekatan behavioristik. Pelaksanaan dari pada kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dengan beberapa tahap : tahap pertama team peneliti mengadakan survey terhadap sekolah apakah di sekolah tersebut telah menerapkan pendidikan karakter dalam setiap pembelajaran di sekolah atau ada dalam bentuk extrakurikuler, setelah menemukan bahwa sekolah tersebut masih kurang dalam menerapkan pendidikan karakter maka dengan demikian kami memilih untuk mengadakan pelatahihan bagi guru-guru mengenai pendidikan karakter dengan pendekatan behavioristik. Dalam pelaksanaan pelatihan semua peserta sangat antusias dalam mnegikuti pelatihan .Setelah selesai pelaksanaan kegiatan pelatihan, peserta diberikan wawancara dan juga angket, berdasarkan hasil wawancara dan angket tersebut ditemukan bahwa peserta mengalami perobahan tingkah laku setelah mendapatkan pemahaman tentang Pendidikan Karakter melalui Pendekatan Bihavioral dan peserta akan melaksanakan pendidikan karakter dalam setiap proses belajar mengajar. Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out the effectiveness of whisper race games strategy in improving the students' ability on listening. This research is a classroom action research. The action research was conducted in two cycles, each of which involved planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The subject of this research was the first year students of MTS Al-Washliyah Batang Serangan. The subject of this research was 37 students in class VII. The technique of collecting data were interview, document, observation and test. After analyzing the data, it was found out that the students' score increased from pretest until post test of cycle I and cycle II. It means there is an improvement on the students ability on listening through whisper race game strategy. It was shown from the improvement of the means of students' score namely the mean of post test of cycle I (66.75) was higher than the mean of the students' score in pretest (46.75) and the mean of cycle II (79.45) was higher than the mean of the students’ score in post test I. It can be seen that the score continuously improved from the pre-test until the post test of cycle 2. And for the presentation in post test I 29.73% was higher than pre test 5.40% and the post test II 62.16% it was higher than pre test and post test 1. From the hypothesis data computation that t-count =9.27 and t-table df-N-1= 37-1=36. It can be seen that coefficient of  t-count = 9.27 with the fact level a = 0.05 which the real level of t –table =2,02 in the coefficient of t-count (9.27)>t-count  = (2.02). Thus, the hypothesis is acceptable. Abstract

This journal's purpose is to learn how music can be used to develop listening skills. One of the four foundational English language skills is listening. It appears that speaking, reading, and writing are among the other skills. These fundamental abilities are broken down into productive skills like speaking and writing and receptive skills like listening and reading. Songs and music are essential components of development and education. The use of music in the classroom has various benefits. The use of songs in the teaching of foreign languages has both supporters and opponents. The use of songs in the educational process, particularly during listening lessons, helps students develop their listening skills as one of their valuable techniques to deal with listening skill issues English songs are engaging, so they can encourage participation from the students and help them perform better on listening tasks. However, using songs to aid in listening has drawbacks. For example, popular music isn't always accurate, and inadequate sound systems in classrooms can interfere with listening to music. Abstract

This research investigates the reading comprehension of descriptive texts among students at SMP Pangeran Antasari Medan. The study employs a descriptive research methodology to assess students' abilities to comprehend and analyze descriptive text. Data was collected through tests and interviews, targeting a specific class of 32 students. The results indicate a varied level of proficiency among students, with a significant number demonstrating excellent comprehension in multiple-choice tests while showing weaker performance in true/false assessments. The research identifies vocabulary and prior knowledge as key factors influencing reading comprehension. Interviews with teachers support these findings, highlighting differences in students' abilities based on their background and support systems. The study emphasizes the need for enhanced vocabulary learning and more effective reading strategies to improve comprehension skills.

Abstract

Background. Online learning is a learning system that is not conducted face-to-face between teachers and students. Preference is a tendency made for one thing compared to another. Therefore, one's view on online learning will also vary. The quality and quantity of learning materials that are in accordance with the curriculum, standards, competencies, and student needs will differentiate students' preferences for online learning. Purpose This research aims to find out the reasons why students prefer online learning or not, and also to find out the factors that significantly influence the effectiveness of online learning. On the other hand, to analyse the appropriate strategy used in the use of media so that it is suitable for learning and can also be accessed by all individuals. Method. The method used in this research is quantitative. A method in which data is collected in the form of testable numbers. The data obtained is the number of responses. The data is obtained from the distribution of questionnaires containing questions regarding the analysis of factors affecting students' preferences for online learning. The statement presented in the questionnaire is a form of google form. The data will be processed through the oneway anova test on the SPSS application which was previously imported into excel. Results. The result of this study states that online learning can be done in schools. Online learning is also a way of learning without face-to-face in sharing information or communicating. Online learning has advantages and disadvantages depending on various factors that influence students' preferences for online learning. In addition, it also provides a strategic overview for teachers and students of the situation and what things will be prepared later. Conclusion This research can be concluded that the preference or choice of each student is different depending on how he/she views the subject. Online learning can be run effectively with good cooperation. Online learning will be implemented if there is support from all parties, be it students, teachers, parents, and even schools. Adjustment in learning is also easier for female students than male students.

Abstract

ChatGPT is an AI tool that has sparked debates about its potential implications for education. We used the SWOT analysis framework to outline ChatGPT’s strengths and weaknesses and to discuss its opportunities for and threats to education. ChatGPT can increase access to information, facilitate Personalised and complex learning, and decrease teaching workload, thereby making key processes and tasks more efficient. The weaknesses are a lack of deep understanding, difficulty in evaluating the quality of responses, a risk of bias and discrimination, and a lack of higher-order thinking skills. The aim of this community service is to inform about the benefits of using ChatGPT in teaching English for teachers at Mts Muhammadiyah 15 Medan and to conduct a SWOT analysis of ChatGPT.

Abstract

This research aims to analyse current literature in the framework of a systematic linguistic approach for grammars. Using the short story "Geri the Forgetful Gajah", ideal, textual and interpersonal meanings will be analysed. Qualitative descriptive methods have been used by researchers. The stories have been split up and analysed on the basis of SFG to produce tables. Results show that most of the texts are based on unmarked material processes and themes, thus indicating a simple but concise story style. According to the results of the metafunction analysis, the majority of texts use behavioral and relational processes with a value of 26.66%, mental and verbal processes with a value of 13.33%, and material processes with a value of 20%. The results of the textual metafunction analysis indicate that 100 % are thematic unknowns. Key Word: Sitemic Functional Grammar Analysis; Short Story

Abstract

Pentingnya pemilihan program studi di perguruan tinggi, khususnya dalam bidang ilmu pendidikan, yang memiliki dampak signifikan terhadap karir dan pengembangan akademik siswa menjadi bagian yang tidak terpisahkan dari siswa. Kegiatan sosialisasi daring ini dilakukan dengan tujuan memberikan informasi komprehensif kepada siswa Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) terkait peluang karir dan proyeksi akademik dalam bidang ilmu pendidikan. Kegiatan sosialisasi ini diikuti oleh 75 siswa dari beberapa sekolah. Hasil evaluasi dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman siswa sebesar 45% dalam strategi memilih program studi yang tepat, serta peningkatan kesadaran mengenai pentingnya mengenali minat dan bakat sebelum menentukan jurusan. Sosialisasi ini juga berhasil meningkatkan minat siswa terhadap program studi ilmu pendidikan dari 20% sebelum kegiatan menjadi 75% setelah kegiatan. Artikel ini menekankan pentingnya penyediaan informasi yang tepat guna membantu siswa membuat keputusan yang lebih baik dalam memilih jurusan, yang pada gilirannya akan mempengaruhi kepuasan akademik dan kesuksesan karir mereka di masa depan. Abstract

This study aimed to find out the students’ vocabulary mastery in descriptive text and to know the challenges students face in mastering vocabulary in descriptive text in Pangeran Antasari Vocational School Medan. The research was conducted using a qualitative research approach using descriptive methods. The subjects of this study were first-grade students X-TB of Pangeran Antasari Vocational School Medan. Data collection techniques were carried out using vocabulary tests and interviews. The research results stated the number of students who achieved the KKM is 16 students with a percentage of 69,6% and under the KKM is 7 students with a percentage of 30,4%. It can be seen that on average students are able to exceed the Criteria Minimum Completeness (KKM) with an average score of 79, while the KKM for completion of English subjects that apply at Pangeran Antasari Vocational School Medan is 75. Abstract

Storytelling is a powerful way to communicate, inspire, and connect people and is an invaluable tool for preserving cultural heritage, building cross-cultural understanding, and celebrating the diversity of human experience. In implementing the activity, several steps are applied to carry out storytelling, namely: Selecting and compiling stories that children like, Understanding the story you want to tell, Making body movements, Using a clear voice/intonation, Using appropriate facial expressions, Paying attention to eye contact with the audience. The learning of storytelling to children is expected to be able to build the children’ self-confidence and language ability and other purposes. Using props, apart from teaching storytelling to children in the XVII Pasar 2 Barat neighborhood, the lecturer team also teaches the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Teaching children a healthy lifestyle is a long-term investment in their health and well-being. Some of the tips given by the initiators of the activities to children in Ward -children to limit Screen Time, Teach children to have Good Sleep Habits, Teach children to choose activities they like, Teach Personal Hygiene Habits. Through a positive, consistent and involving approach, children can help them understand and implement healthy lifestyles from an early age. This helps create positive habits that they can carry into adulthood. By providing a good understanding of healthy lifestyles, children can grow into individuals who are aware of the importance of maintaining their own health and well-being.
