Abstract

Burnout is a condition of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion due to prolonged stress, which is common in students and workers. One relevant approach to overcome it is the Islamic coping mechanism, which is a psychological recovery strategy based on Islamic spiritual values. This study aims to examine the form of Islamic coping mechanism in dealing with burnout based on the interpretation of Surah Al-Insyirah in the perspective of the interpretation of Fī Ẓilal Al-Qur'an by Sayyid Qutb. This study uses a qualitative method with a psychological approach through literature study. The analysis focuses on verses in Surah Al-Insyirah that are relevant to the Solution to handling burnout. The results of the study concluded three main strategies offered by the Qur'an: (1) believing that every difficulty is accompanied by ease (QS. Al-Insyirah: 5-6), (2) continuing activities after completing tasks (QS. Al-Insyirah: 7), and (3) surrendering completely to Allah as a source of inner peace (QS. Al-Insyirah: 8). This shows that Surah Al-Insyirah contains spiritual coping values that can act as a recovery mechanism against burnout as a whole, especially in the context of modern life that is full of stress.

Abstract

Objective:  This study aims to explore the implementation of tahfidz and tahsin programs at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta, as well as identify strategies to improve the quality of memorization and recitation of the Qur'an through the optimization of dormitory facilities and the implementation of Saturday Islamic Boarding School activities (Pesat). Theoretical framework: This research is based on Qur'anic learning theory that emphasizes the integration of tahsin and tahfidz as part of Islamic character education, as well as kinesthetic and repetitive approaches such as talaqqi, tikrār, and muroja'ah to support successful memorization. Literature review:  The literature review covers the urgency of tahfidz and tahsin in Islamic education, the effectiveness of methods such as talaqqi and tasmi', the role of curriculum and facilities, and the importance of tahsin as a basis for correct memorization. The literature also discusses common reading errors and their corrective strategies. Methods:   The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a field study method. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation, which are analyzed interactively through reduction, presentation, and conclusions drawn. The validity of the data was tested by triangulation and member check. Result:  The results of the study show that the tahfidz and tahsin programs at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta have great potential but have not been fully optimized. Two flagship programs were developed, namely the boarding school dormitory program and Pesat (Saturday Islamic Boarding School), which aims to improve the quality and quantity of memorization. It was also found that some students did not have the correct reading skills, so they needed to learn first before entering the tahfidz stage. Implications:  This study shows the need for collaboration between schools, teachers, and policymakers in designing the tahfidz-tahsin curriculum and optimizing dormitory facilities to support intensive Qur'an learning. Novelty:  This study presents a school-based Qur'an coaching model with the integration of tahsin as a prerequisite for tahfidz, utilizing the boarding system and the Pesat program as effective learning innovations.

Abstract

This study discusses the process of tadwīn al-Qur’ān or the codification of the Qur’an during the era of the Khulafā’ al-Rāsyidīn as a monumental effort to preserve the purity of the revelation. The focus of the study is directed at two main phases: the compilation of the Qur’an during the caliphate of Abū Bakar al-Ṣiddīq, which was motivated by the deaths of many ḥuffāẓ (Qur’an memorizers) in the Battle of Yamāmah, and the codification and standardization of the muṣḥaf during the caliphate of ‘Uthmān ibn ‘Affān to prevent differences in qirā’āt (recitations) that had the potential to cause division among Muslims. The research method used is a qualitative approach with historical analysis, through a review of classical and modern literature related to the history of the compilation of the Qur’an. The results show that these codification initiatives not only played a role in preserving the authenticity of the Qur’anic text but also laid the foundation for the transmission of the standard muṣḥaf (muṣḥaf ‘Uthmānī) that is used to this day. Thus, the compilation of the Qur’an during the era of the Khulafā’ al-Rāsyidīn represents a crucial historical milestone in Islamic civilization, ensuring the continuity, unity, and validity of the Divine revelation throughout the ages.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service program is to improve Arabic language skills while strengthening Islamic values among Indonesian migrant children at Sanggar Bimbingan Gombak Utara, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This program was designed to address the problems of low Arabic literacy, limited teaching methods, and weak understanding of Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) among diaspora children. Through this initiative, it is expected to foster a young generation with basic Arabic proficiency, strong religious understanding, and confidence in maintaining their Islamic identity within a multicultural environment. The implementation method applied a participatory approach consisting of identification, planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection stages. Several learning strategies were employed, including Joyful Learning Arabic, Al-Lughah wa Al-Hayah, Pelita Hikmah, Quiz Cahaya Iman, and Sanggar Qur’an. The activities were conducted interactively, involving lecturers, students, local teachers, and PRIM Malaysia to ensure program sustainability. The results show significant improvements both academically and socio-spiritually. Academically, children’s vocabulary mastery, simple conversation skills, and Qur’anic recitation with tajwid improved based on pre-test and post-test results. Socially, the program fostered greater self-confidence, active participation, and a stronger sense of community. Spiritually, the internalization of Islamic values was reflected in children’s daily attitudes and behavior. The program also produced simple teaching modules, online mentoring, and collaborative networks to support sustainability. Thus, this initiative not only addressed short-term needs but also built a relevant, sustainable learning ecosystem that can be replicated in other diaspora communities..

Abstract

Islam provides comprehensive regulations for human actions in fulfilling life’s necessities, particularly in the consumption of food and beverages, ensuring that they are obtained lawfully (halal) and bring blessings. This principle is emphasized in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 168, which commands humankind to consume halalan thayyiban and to avoid following the footsteps of Satan. This study aims to analyze the concept of halalan thayyiban through a comparative study of two authoritative Indonesian exegeses: Tafsir Al-Azhar by Prof. Dr. Haji Abdulmalik Abdulkarim Amrullah (HAMKA) and Tafsir Al-Misbah by M. Quraish Shihab. The research employs a library research method with a qualitative approach and descriptive-textual analysis. Primary sources consist of the Qur’an, Tafsir Al-Azhar, and Tafsir Al-Misbah, while secondary sources include journals, books, and relevant scholarly literature. The findings reveal that HAMKA interprets lawful food as the opposite of prohibited ones explicitly mentioned in the Qur’an, namely carrion, blood, pork, and sacrifices offered to idols. Meanwhile, Quraish Shihab emphasizes that lawful food refers to what is not forbidden, either by its substance or by the manner of its acquisition. Both scholars agree that not everything lawful is automatically thayyib, as goodness is also determined by cleanliness, health, and the ethical means of obtaining it. Thus, the concept of halalan thayyiban extends beyond the legal status of permissibility, encompassing moral values, hygiene, health, and blessings that contribute to the spiritual and social well-being of Muslims.

Abstract

Indonesia is a multicultural society with diverse religions, cultures, and traditions, largely rooted in its history as an international trade route that introduced new religions and cultures to coastal regions. In Bali, interfaith tolerance represents an effort to maintain harmony amidst differences, supported by gratitude as an acknowledgment of blessings and harmony granted by God. Gratitude, as a form of submission to God and using His blessings in accordance with His will, becomes an essential value for Muslims in Bali to address these social challenges. This study focuses on the concept of gratitude in the Balinese translation of the Qur'an by the Ministry of Religious Affairs to explore the understanding of gratitude within the Balinese cultural context, which is expected to strengthen interfaith tolerance. This research employs a qualitative method to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of themes and concepts, requiring data analysis in line with qualitative methodology principles. The method applied is library research, utilizing data sources from the Qur'an Balinese Translation printed by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia. The study adopts a thematic interpretation method to collect verses related to gratitude. The results reveal that gratitude in the Balinese translation of the Qur'an includes various terms, each reflecting different nuances and contexts of gratitude, such as nyuksemaang, masuksema, ngastungkara, kesuksmaan, suksmaang, and pangastungkara, all of which signify acknowledgment of Allah’s blessings.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze Yusuf al-Qardhawi's thoughts on the martyrdom as stated in Fiqh al-Jihād's book: Dirāsah Muqāranah Li-Aḥkāmihi Wa Philosophy Fi Dhau' Qur'ān Wa Al-Sunnah, as aminah Li-Akāmihi Wa Philosophy. In Yusuf Qardhawi's view, martyrdom bombing was justified in the aspect of defensive jihad, especially in the Palestinian territories. However, Yusuf Qardhawi's views led to controversy and there were disagreements from a number of schools that argued that this was similar to Islam's outlawed suicide (al-intihar) and potentially led to innocent civil cases. This study uses a qualitative method of literature with primary sources, namely the book Fiqh al-Jihad Dirāsah Muqāranah Li-Aḥkāmihi Wa Falsafatihi Fi Dhau' Al-Qur'ān Wa Al-Sunnah and secondary sources in the form of Islamic literature in the form of research journals on disorders. This analysis uses descriptive analysis to fully explain Yusuf Qardhawi's position on the contents of the martyrdom bomb and compared to criticism from other schools, to find the boundary between the legitimate defense in Islam and the unwarranted acts of violence by Shariah.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of emotion regulation in the story of Prophet Yunus based on Hamka’s interpretation in Tafsir Al Azhar, using a psychological approach. The research background highlights the urgency of emotion regulation as a crucial skill in facing life’s challenges, particularly in the modern era, which is prone to stress, anxiety, and mental disorders. The novelty of this study lies in the thematic analysis of Qur’anic verses related to Prophet Yunus (Surah Ash-Shaffāt/37: 139–148, Surah Al-Anbiyā’/21: 87–88, Surah Al-Qalam/68: 48–50), integrating emotion regulation theories by James Gross, Oliver P. John, and Ross A. Thompson, along with Zakiah Daradjat’s Islamic psychology perspective. The research adopts a qualitative method based on library research with a descriptive-interpretative analysis. The findings reveal that Prophet Yunus regulated his emotions through stages of self-admission of faults, surrender to Allah, cognitive reappraisal, attentional deployment, and spiritual recovery, culminating in successful da’wah. The main factors influencing the effectiveness of his emotion regulation were steadfast faith and cognitive ability to reinterpret situations positively. The study concludes that effective emotion regulation requires a synergy between spirituality and psychological strategies.
