Abstract

In the context of family life, parents are considered a very important factor in creating and maintaining blessings for their children. The piety or righteousness of parents becomes the cause of Allah's mercy and protection not only for themselves but also for their descendants. Therefore, this article discusses the significance of parental righteousness, which has a profound impact on Allah's protection of their offspring, through the perspective of exegeses on Surah Al-Kahfi, verse 82. This article adopts a thematic tafsir approach by comparing the explanations of classical and contemporary scholars, namely Ibn Kathir and Wahbah Az-Zuhaili, on the key study of Surah Al-Kahfi, verse 82. The first part of this discussion introduces brief biographies of the two scholars, their tafsir writing systems, and the approaches to interpretation they employed. It then presents their respective interpretations before comparing the two. The findings of this research show that parental righteousness is highly relevant in safeguarding the blessings for their descendants. Both tafsirs agree that parental piety plays a key role in determining blessings, both in material aspects (such as protection of wealth) and spiritual aspects (such as divine guidance and the safety of children in this life and the hereafter).

Abstract

The epistemology of interpretation is a branch of science that aims to answer questions based on the theory of applied science about interpretation itself. The Book of Tafsir Fii Zhilalil Quran by Sayyid Qutb is one of the tafsir that was born in contemporary times using the tahlili method and has an al-adabi al-ijtimā'i pattern. This study aims to understand Sayyid Qutb's interpretive epistemology in interpreting the Koran in his work Tafsir Fii Zhilalil Koran. How can someone assess the validity of an interpretation based on epistemic rules? This research uses a qualitative approach and library research and examines both primary and secondary sources to descriptively analyze the biography of Sayyid Qutb, the epistemology of interpretation, the advantages and disadvantages of Fii Zhilalil's interpretation of the Qur'an. This research shows that this tafsir book attempts to provide a comprehensive interpretation of each text of the Qur'an in accordance with the orderly sequence of the mushaf. So this book of tafsir makes a contribution based on al-adabi al-ijtimā'i's style of interpretation, usually explaining several phenomena related to social and cultural developments at that time and providing solutions on how to overcome the social problems being faced by Muslims.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of khilafah in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 30 through a comparative analysis of Tafsir Fii Zhilalil Qur’an by Sayyid Qutb and Tafsir Al-Azhar by Buya Hamka. Sayyid Qutb interprets khilafah as the implementation of Allah’s sovereignty on earth, emphasizing the application of Islamic law in all aspects of life, both individual and collective. His perspective is influenced by the socio-political conditions of 20th-century Egypt, marked by struggles for an Islamic governance system. In contrast, Buya Hamka views khilafah as a divine mandate that is not limited to political leadership but also encompasses human relationships with God, fellow beings, and nature. He highlights the importance of moral and spiritual values, as well as social responsibility in maintaining justice and balance. His approach is more inclusive, adapting to the pluralistic society and modernization dynamics in Indonesia. Through thematic and comparative analysis, this study finds that the differences in interpretation between the two scholars are significantly influenced by their social and ideological backgrounds. The findings indicate that khilafah is not only a political concept but also carries ethical and spiritual dimensions relevant to building a just and sustainable civilization. Thus, Surah Al-Baqarah verse 30 provides a philosophical foundation for humanity in fulfilling the mandate of khilafah in accordance with the demands of the times.

Abstract

Abstract

The Qur'an mentions the term banaan (fingertips) in two different contexts, namely in QS Al-Qiyamah (4) and QS Al-Anfal (12), both of which contain scientific references that are relevant to modern knowledge. This study employed a qualitative method with a literature review approach to analyze the scientific meaning of banaan in both verses. The focus of the study was on the meaning of banaan as a symbol of human identity through fingerprints (QS Al-Qiyamah: 4) and as an object of punishment in the context of warfare (QS Al-Anfal: 12). Primary sources included Tafsir Al-Azhar, Tafsir al-Muyassar, and the works of Zaghlul al-Najjar, which were compared with modern anatomy, biology, and forensic literature. The results of the study indicated that QS Al-Qiyamah (4) affirms Allah's power in creating the unique identity of every human being through fingerprints, while QS Al-Anfal (12) describes the strategic dimension of attacks on vital points during the Battle of Badr. The novelty of this research lay in the integration of two meanings of identity and punishment in a single comparative analysis, which enhances the scientific approach studying of the Qur'an and opens up opportunities for the integration of modern science into Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir) studies.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine the concept of Birrul Walidain as the basis of interpersonal ethics in Muslim families based on the perspective of Tafsir Ibn Kathir. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework used is based on Islamic ethics, the concept of monotheism, and social values in the Muslim family. Literature review: the literature review includes previous studies on Birrul Walidain from the perspective of interpretation, Literature on Muslim family ethics, and References from classical tafsir especially Tafsir Ibn Kathir, as well as thematic interpretation approaches in Islamic studies. Methods: Using the literature review method with a thematic interpretation approach (maudhui), this study analyzes the verses of the Qur'an that discuss Birrul Walidain as interpreted by Ibn Kathir. Results: The results of the study show that Birrul Walidain is an absolute commandment that is inseparable from monotheism and is the main foundation in shaping social ethics in the family, which is reflected in respect, gentleness in speech, as well as prayers and charity for parents, both during life and after death. Implications: These findings imply the importance of Birrul Walidain as a foundation in shaping the harmony of the family and a civilized Muslim society. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in its thematic approach to Ibn Kathir's classical interpretation in linking the values of monotheism with family ethics, as well as the emphasis on the spiritual and social dimensions of obedience to parents in the context of family life.

Abstract

Objective:  This study aims to explore the implementation of tahfidz and tahsin programs at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta, as well as identify strategies to improve the quality of memorization and recitation of the Qur'an through the optimization of dormitory facilities and the implementation of Saturday Islamic Boarding School activities (Pesat). Theoretical framework: This research is based on Qur'anic learning theory that emphasizes the integration of tahsin and tahfidz as part of Islamic character education, as well as kinesthetic and repetitive approaches such as talaqqi, tikrār, and muroja'ah to support successful memorization. Literature review:  The literature review covers the urgency of tahfidz and tahsin in Islamic education, the effectiveness of methods such as talaqqi and tasmi', the role of curriculum and facilities, and the importance of tahsin as a basis for correct memorization. The literature also discusses common reading errors and their corrective strategies. Methods:   The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a field study method. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation, which are analyzed interactively through reduction, presentation, and conclusions drawn. The validity of the data was tested by triangulation and member check. Result:  The results of the study show that the tahfidz and tahsin programs at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta have great potential but have not been fully optimized. Two flagship programs were developed, namely the boarding school dormitory program and Pesat (Saturday Islamic Boarding School), which aims to improve the quality and quantity of memorization. It was also found that some students did not have the correct reading skills, so they needed to learn first before entering the tahfidz stage. Implications:  This study shows the need for collaboration between schools, teachers, and policymakers in designing the tahfidz-tahsin curriculum and optimizing dormitory facilities to support intensive Qur'an learning. Novelty:  This study presents a school-based Qur'an coaching model with the integration of tahsin as a prerequisite for tahfidz, utilizing the boarding system and the Pesat program as effective learning innovations.

Abstract

Objective: The phenomenon of increasing promiscuous sexual behavior in today's society shows a significant shift in moral values. The purpose of this study is to examine the correlation between this phenomenon and the commemoration of the Apocalypse in Surah Al-Hajj 1-2 and the saheeh hadiths related to Asyrat al-Sa'ah. Theoretical framework: This research refers to the approach of the study of Surah Al-Hajj verses 1-2, its correlation with the Punishment at the time of the Apocalypse. Literature review: Classical and Contemporary Interpretations combined with theories of social deviance. Method: This study uses a qualitative method with a literature approach, in the form of thematic interpretation and hadith studies, where the main source is Al-Hajj verses 1-2, and the secondary source is classical and contemporary tafsir books, as well as journals about Zina with semantic analysis.  Results: The results of the study show that there is a correlation between punishment and the Apocalypse (great), where the great apocalypse contains the greatest and most devastating set of punishments that have occurred since humans lived, and the thing that most affects the occurrence of punishment is acts that deviate from the rules of Allah SWT. Implications: This study highlights the importance of being aware of the rampant practice of adultery among the community as a form of caution for the coming of the Punishment and the Apocalypse. Novelty: This study offers a new perspective by linking the psychology of fear in Surah Al-Hajj 1-2 as a direct response to the normalization of adultery in the digital age, a correlation rarely discussed in contemporary sekaological literature.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the mention of mosquitoes in QS. Al-Baqarah verse 26 through Tafsir Al-Azhar by Buya Hamka, and explores the relevance of the symbolism to modern scientific knowledge. Theoretical framework: This study combines two approaches: classical interpretations, especially the Al-Azhar Interpretation, which interprets mosquitoes as a symbol of Allah's greatness, and scientific approaches that highlight biology, ecology, and the role of mosquitoes in public health. Literature review: The literature review includes Al-Azhar's interpretation of symbolism in the Qur'an as well as scientific literature on the biology and ecological role of mosquitoes, including their impact on health as a vector of disease. Method: Qualitative method is used with a literature study approach. Data were obtained from the analysis of the text of the Qur'an, Tafsir Al-Azhar, and related scientific literature.  Results:  The study found that Hamka views mosquitoes as a symbol of God's greatness and as a medium of spiritual education. Scientifically, mosquitoes have complex biological structures and play an important role in ecosystems and public health. Implications: This research connects revelation and science, enriching understanding of the role of God's creation, both from a spiritual and scientific perspective, and providing moral lessons about humility. Novelty:  This research integrates the interpretation of the Qur'an with modern science, demonstrates the relevance between religious symbolism and scientific phenomena, and opens up new insights into understanding the relationship between revelation and human knowledge.
