Abstract

Alternative conceptions or misconceptions is believed as the main barrier for most students who learn chemistry. Students who hold alternative conceptions will struggle to understand the advanced concepts. Therefore, identifying those alternative conceptions is important. In this study a diagnostic test was designed and developed to identify students’ alternative conceptions about intermolecular forces (IMFs). The diagnostic test developed in this study consist of 19 multiple choice questions with open reason. The test was administered to 88 university students who learn chemistry. Data collected were analyzed using SPSS. The validity and the reliability of the test were 0.526 and 0.878 respectively. The result indicates that the test is valid and reliable. The mean difficulty value and discriminatory index are 0.623 and 0.45 respectively. The findings of the item analysis showed that the test is in moderate difficulty and the discriminatory of the test is in good category. Meanwhile, the average distractor effectivity for the diagnostic test is 3 options (out of 4 options), which means the distractors are in good category and well function. Those findings indicate that the two-tier diagnostics test could be used to identify students’ alternative conceptions and understanding about IMFs.

Abstract

This study examines teacher capacity transformation through professional development, work motivation, and organizational support in the context of 21st-century education. A quantitative approach was employed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze the relationships among variables. Data were collected from economics teachers at senior high schools and vocational schools in Pontianak City who are members of the Subject Teacher Forum (MGMP). The results reveal that professional development exerts the strongest influence on teacher capacity transformation, followed by organizational support and work motivation. Work motivation partially mediates the relationship between organizational support and teacher capacity transformation but does not mediate the effect of professional development on teacher capacity transformation. These findings indicate that professional development is the primary driver of teacher capacity enhancement, while organizational support contributes both directly and indirectly through increased motivation. The study offers an integrated Human Resource Management (HRM)-based model and provides practical implications for educational policymakers in strengthening teacher development strategies.

Abstract

Employee silence represents a critical organizational phenomenon wherein employees deliberately withhold work-related ideas, concerns, suggestions, and information from individuals who could effect change. This systematic literature review employs a qualitative meta-synthesis approach to integrate research findings on the social dynamics underlying employee silence, with particular emphasis on the interrelationships among organizational culture, psychological safety, and voice behavior. A comprehensive search of eight academic databases (Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Emerald Insight, SpringerLink, Taylor & Francis, Wiley Online Library, and Google Scholar) was conducted using predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria, yielding 48 studies for final analysis. The thematic synthesis revealed six primary themes: (1) organizational culture as a social context of silence, (2) psychological safety as a mediating mechanism, (3) fear and power distance in defensive silence, (4) leadership and silence climate, (5) voice behavior as a counterforce to silence, and (6) social norms and the institutionalization of silence. The findings demonstrate that employee silence is fundamentally a socially constructed phenomenon shaped by cultural values, power dynamics, leadership behaviors, and communication norms rather than merely an individual decision. The proposed conceptual framework illustrates a pathway wherein organizational culture influences psychological safety, which subsequently affects voice behavior and ultimately determines the prevalence of employee silence. This study contributes to organizational behavior theory by providing an integrated understanding of the social dynamics of silence and offers practical implications for organizational leaders seeking to cultivate speak-up cultures.

Abstract

Organizations today face increasing pressure not only to enhance productivity and performance but also to create work environments where employees feel genuinely accepted, valued, and integrated as meaningful members of the organizational community. This systematic literature review adopts a qualitative meta-synthesis approach to analyze, synthesize, and integrate findings from prior research examining how belonging at work is formed through the interplay of workplace inclusion, social identity recognition, and employee well-being. Workplace belonging represents a critical organizational concern because it directly influences employee engagement, psychological health, work motivation, retention, and the quality of social relationships within organizations. Through a rigorous examination of peer-reviewed articles published between 2014 and 2026 across multiple academic databases, this study identifies several interconnected themes: workplace inclusion as a foundational condition, social identity recognition as a psychological mechanism, psychological safety as a mediating factor, inclusive leadership as a facilitating influence, social support and organizational culture as contextual moderators, and employee well-being as the ultimate outcome. The findings reveal that belonging at work is a multidimensional social-psychological phenomenon shaped by structural organizational practices, interpersonal relationships, leadership behaviors, and cultural norms. This review contributes theoretically by integrating previously fragmented literature into a comprehensive conceptual framework explaining the formation and consequences of workplace belonging. Practically, the findings offer actionable insights for organizational leaders and human resource practitioners seeking to design inclusive workplaces that promote employee health, engagement, and sustainable organizational performance.
