Abstract

DAGUSIBU is a Family Movement Program focused on Drug Awareness, aimed at increasing public knowledge and awareness regarding the proper and responsible use of medications. This outreach effort is intended to educate the community on how to implement safe and appropriate drug usage based on the principles of the DAGUSIBU concept. The method applied involves interactive lectures combined with the distribution of questionnaires in the form of pre-tests and post-tests to assess participants’ understanding. The outcomes revealed that most participants showed improved knowledge and comprehension of drug use, as evidenced by the difference in their pre- and post-test results. They became more capable of distinguishing between prescription and non-prescription drugs, identifying legal sources for obtaining medications, and recognizing the importance of proper storage and disposal of pharmaceutical products. Therefore, DAGUSIBU serves as an effective and proactive strategy to promote family health and prevent the misuse of drugs within the community

Abstract

Educating young people about product safety is becoming increasingly important as the cosmetics industry evolves rapidly. A community outreach program was held at SMKN 05 Kendari in Southeast Sulawesi to enhance teenagers’ awareness of selecting safe and legally approved cosmetic products. The program utilized an engaging educational format, including presentations, group discussions, and interactive Q&A sessions, supported by PowerPoint slides. Key topics included identifying the differences between legal and illegal cosmetics, understanding the dangers of harmful substances in beauty products, and learning how to verify products using the BPOM KLIK platform. The outcome showed a noticeable improvement in participants' knowledge regarding the selection of safe cosmetics. This initiative is expected to encourage more informed consumer choices and help reduce the use of illegal cosmetics among teenagers

Abstract

Etlingera elatior (Wualae), a plant recognized for its flavonoid-derived antioxidant properties, presents a potential source for cosmeceutical applications. This study investigated the formulation and evaluation of a Self-Foaming Clay Soap (SFCS) incorporating an ethanol extract of E. elatior fruit. The SFCS base, comprising surfactant as a cleansing and foaming agent combined with bentonite clay for enhanced serviceability and oil adsorption, was formulated with varying concentrations of bentonite (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% w/w), designated as FI to FV, respectively, alongside other necessary excipients. The resulting SFCS preparations underwent rigorous physical and chemical stability assessments following accelerated storage conditions (freeze-thaw cycles). Evaluated parameters included organoleptic properties, foam stability and height, viscosity, dispersibility, homogeneity, and pH. The evaluation revealed that Formulation II (FII), containing 5% w/w bentonite, exhibited the most favorable stability profile and met the established criteria for SFCS semisolid preparations. Specifically, FII demonstrated a foam stabilization rate of 84.61% and a foam height of 2.6 cm after freeze-thaw cycling, a viscosity of 10,000 cPs, a spreadability diameter of 4.1 cm, a homogeneous texture devoid of coarse particles, and a skin-compatible pH of 5. These findings suggest that an SFCS formulation incorporating a 5% w/w concentration of bentonite and E. elatior fruit extract holds promising potential as a stable and efficacious skincare preparation.

Abstract

Background: Ultraviolet (UV) radiation contributes to skin aging and damage, necessitating effective protection. Sunscreens offer a solution by absorbing, scattering, and reflecting UV radiation, especially those containing titanium dioxide, which has strong UV-blocking properties. Innovation in the form of compact powder sunscreen presents a practical and efficient daily protection approach due to its easy-to-apply formulation. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the physical characteristics of compact powder sunscreen formulations, including organoleptic properties, pH, homogeneity, adhesion, hardness, and the effect of titanium dioxide on the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) value. Methods: Formulations were prepared and evaluated through physical tests, including organoleptic assessment, pH, homogeneity, adhesion, and hardness, as well as SPF measurement using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Results: Titanium dioxide contributed to the light brown color, smooth texture, and vanilla scent of the formulations. It also enhanced the SPF value. The most optimal formulation was Formula 4, containing 25% titanium dioxide, which met the desired physical criteria and achieved an SPF value of 15.06, categorized as ultra protection. Conclusion: The addition of titanium dioxide positively affected the physical characteristics and SPF value of compact powder sunscreen. Formula 4, with 25% titanium dioxide, demonstrated the best results and the highest SPF, making it the most optimal formulation for UV protection

Abstract

Indonesia has great potential for traditional medicinal plants which have been used for generations to maintain health. However, the utilization of home yards as productive land for Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) is not yet optimal in many areas, including Konda Satu Village, South Konawe Regency. In fact, TOGA can be a source of herbal ingredients that function as a preventive and promotive effort to boost the body's immune system. Therefore, the activity of Socialization and Utilization of Village Land for TOGA Planting was carried out in Konda Satu Village. This activity aimed to increase community knowledge about the benefits and cultivation methods of TOGA, while simultaneously optimizing village land that was not yet productive. The implementation was carried out through counseling and direct practice of planting TOGA, such as turmeric, lemongrass, bitter leaf (sambiloto), and galangal on village land. This activity received a positive response and successfully fostered community awareness and self-reliance in utilizing local natural resources for herbal-based health

Abstract

The rampant circulation of illegal cosmetics and low cosmetic safety literacy remain a problem among adolescents, increasing the risk of exposure to hazardous substances such as mercury and hydroquinone. In response, the Pharmacy Professional Education Study Program at Halu Oleo University, in collaboration with BPOM, conducted a community service activity at SMK Negeri 5 Kendari to improve students knowledge in choosing safe cosmetics. The activity was carried out through socialization and counseling using visual media, product inspection practices using the BPOM Mobile application, and the application of the KLIK (Packaging, Label, Distribution Permit, and Expiration) checking method. Evaluation was carried out through pre- and post-tests. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' understanding in recognizing safe cosmetics and high enthusiasm from the participants. This activity emphasized the importance of continuing education to develop critical and safety-conscious cosmetic consumers
