Abstract

Breeding improved yardlong bean varieties is not only aimed for yield, but also for enhancing nutritional content such as anthocyanin and carotenoids concentrations. The objectives of this research were to elucidate the anthocyanin and carotenoids concentrations as well as yield components in several yard long bean genotypes. This research was conducted at the Leuwikopo Experimental Station and Post Harvest Laboratory of Department of Agronomy and Horticulture IPB from November 2017 to January 2018. The experiment was arranged in a single-factor randomized complete block design with 4 replicates, involving 15 yardlong bean genotypes. The results showed that Fagiola 2 had relatively high anthocyanin and carotenoids contents. Peleton had higher yield than Kinaya 1, Pangeran Anvi, Parade, and Fagiola 2. Anthocyanin content was not correlated with yield components, whereas carotenoids content was positively correlated with the length of pod stalks, length of pods, weight per pod, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and total chlorophyll. Pod weights per plant were positively correlated with the number of pods per plant (r = 0.81, P<0.01), and can be predicted by a linear model involving number of pods per plant and days to harvest (R2 = 0.75, P<0.01).Keywords: biofortification, chlorophyll, correlation, stepwise regression, Vigna unguiculata var. sesquipedalis

Abstract

Maize is an important crop in Indonesia that is utilized for food, feed, and industry. Waterlogging is one of the abioticstresses challenging maize production in recent years due to climate changes. Vegetative-phase screening methods may benefitplant breeding programs because potential genotypes can be identified at earlier stage with lower cost. This study consistedof two experiments. The first experiment was carried out at the Sawah Baru experimental station of Bogor AgriculturalUniversity (IPB), Bogor, from June to September 2017 using an alpha lattice design with three replications and four blockswithin each replication. The second experiment conducted in a greenhouse at Cikabayan experimental station of IPB, Bogor,from December 2017 to January 2018 using a randomized complete block design with three replications. Genetic materialused were 21 maize genotypes from the Indonesia Cereal Research Institute (ICERI) and IPB, including 19 hybrids and 2inbred lines. The results showed that the dry root weight under normal conditions had significant positive correlation withgrain yield under waterlogging stress, and therefore is potential for early screening. Adaptive genotypes in waterloggingstress selected based on dry root weight are DKLx30, DKLx11, MGoldx37, MGOldx41, and IPB L15-1xMR14. Predictedmean yield across these genotypes was 0.57 ton ha-1 higher yield than the overall mean in waterlogging stress condition.Selected hybrids can be further evaluated for variety release.

Abstract

Rainfed rice breeding for high yield is an alternative to increase national rice production. The breeding can beaccelerated using anther culture technique. The selection of high productivity lines may be more effective if it also involvesthe traits contributing to or affecting the yield traits. This study aimed at determining suitable characters as selection criteriaand obtain a selection index model for high yielding doubled haploid rainfed rice lines. The experiment was conductedin a greenhouse of ICABOGRAD, Bogor and Sawah Baru Experimental Station, Bogor Agricultural University using arandomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Thirty doubled haploid lines derived from anther cultureand two check varieties namely Ciherang and Inpari 18 were used. The results showed that plant height (TT), number of filledgrain per panicle (GI), and productivity (PRD) could be used as suitable selection characters. The determination of selectionindex obtained a selection model which was Selection index = 0.48 PRD + 0.31 JGI - 0.31 TT. This model can be used toselect high yielding doubled haploid rainfed rice lines.

Abstract

Yield grain of rice was determined by genetical and environmental factors, one of them was genetic response on levelof phosphorus. Rice panicle branching was one of the key factors on supporting rice yield. The study aimed to find out ricepanicle branching responses to phosphorus. Controlled experiment was conducted on September 2017 - February 2018, usingtwo genotypes planted on poor soil media and six levels of phosphorus as treatments, arranged in completely randomizeddesign. Panicle branching characters were observed on the experiment. The experiment showed the genotype’s effects atall panicle branching except number of tertiary branches and number of grains on tertiary branches. Phosphorus affectedpanicle branching except panicle length, primary branch length, and number of grain on tertiary branches. Genotype andphosphorus interaction appeared at all panicle branching except number of primary branch, number of tertiary branches,number of grains on tertiary branches, and the percentage of grains number on tertiary branches. The panicle of genotypeIPB180-12 was likely more stabil to the various levels of phosphorus, meanwhile the panicle of genotype IPB158-5 moresensitive. According to the polynomial regression evaluation, the optimum level of P2O5 for the sensitive genotype was 421.92kg ha-1, and for the tolerant genotype was 108 kg ha-1 in poor soil.

Abstract

Drought is an important constraint for rice production in rainfed lowland and shallow freshwater swamp. The area often experiences drought stress at the generative stage of the plants. This study aimed at selecting adaptive lines to terminal drought and formulating a multiple regression model to estimate the productivity under drought stress conditions at the generative stage. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse of the Indonesian Center for Rice Research, Subang, West Java, using an augmented design with five blocks. The genetic material used was ninety-nine lines and four checks varieties, namely Inpari 30, Limboto, Salumpikit, and IR 20. The model was formulated using stepwise regression analysis. Based on this study, ten lines were adapted to drought stress at the generative stage, namely B13983E-KA-12-2, B13926E-KA-13, B13507E-MR-19, B14366E-KY-50, B14366E-KY-37, IR86384- 46-3-1-B, BP20452e-PWK-0-SKI-1-1, BP20452e-PWK-0-SKI-2-4, BP20452e-PWK-0-SKI-3-3, and BP29790d-PWK-3 -SKI-1-5. The B13507E-MR-19 had the highest productivity (4.02 ton ha-1) under drought stress conditions. Yield under drought stress in the greenhouse could be predicted using a linear regression model involving plant height at early vegetative stage, plant height up to the panicle, tiller number at early vegetative stage, tiller number at late vegetative stage, tiller number at flowering, heading time, number of filled grain, and panicle exsertion length. This model was able to explain 75.92% of yield variation. Potential rice lines and the regression model obtained are expected to contribute to the development of rice varieties adaptive to drought. Abstract

Breeding rice for heavy panicle is prospective to improve production. However, the information on genotype x environment interaction (GxE) of rice panicle morphology is limited. This study was aimed to evaluate the GxE interaction on panicle morphology of heavy panicle rice (Oryza sativa L.) genotypes. The experiments were conducted in four environmental conditions. The research was conducted from December 2017 to May 2019 at the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, IPB University, using 24 genotypes (F5-F6 generation) with 6 check varieties. The experimental design was an augmented design (3 replicates of check). Analysis of variance showed that GxE interaction effects were significant on the panicle length, number of axis nodes, primary branches number, secondary branches number, tertiary branches number, number of grains per panicle, and grain density per primary branch. The results showed that the two environments in the rainy season produced higher primary branches number, secondary branches number, tertiary branches number, number of grain per panicle, and grain density per primary branch than the two environments in the dry season. Correlation and path analyses showed that panicle length, number of secondary branches, and grain density per primary branch had a significant and direct positive effect on the number of grains per panicle. Abstract

Perakitan varietas melon unggul baru memerlukan materi genetik yang beragam. Ekspresi keragaman genetik memerlukan lingkungan yang mendukung, salah satunya adalah ketersediaan air bagi tanaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan: (1) mempelajari pengaruh varietas (V), perlakuan irigasi (I), interaksi VxI terhadap karakter melon, (2) mengestimasi komponen ragam dan heritabilitas arti luas karakter melon, (3) mengestimasi produktivitas air dan penggunaan air tiap tanaman melon. Percobaan dilakukan di rumah kaca Kebun Percobaan Cikabayan, Departemen Agronomi dan Hortikultura, Fakultas Pertanian IPB, Darmaga, Bogor, pada bulan September-November 2017 menggunakan rancangan tersarang dengan dua faktor dan lima ulangan. Lima varietas melon (‘Honey Dew’, ‘Honey Blonde’, ‘Brilliant’, ‘Athena’, dan ‘Serenade’) ditempatkan secara acak pada tiap ulangan di dalam tiap taraf perlakuan irigasi (784 L, 1,127 L, dan 1,407 L). Varietas berpengaruh nyata terhadap karakter diameter batang, panjang daun, lebar daun, umur berbunga jantan, umur berbunga hermafrodit, panjang buah dan padatan terlarut total. Perlakuan irigasi tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap semua karakter tanaman, namun interaksi VxI berpengaruh nyata pada karakter umur panen. Karakter padatan terlarut total dan panjang daun memiliki nilai heritabilitas arti luas >50%. Produktivitas air irigasi adalah 153.7 kg ha-1 mm-1 dan total penggunaan air untuk tiap tanaman pada perlakuan irigasi P1, P2, dan P3 masing-masing adalah 38.58 L, 50.78 L, dan 73.19 L. Abstract

The reduction in agricultural land due to land conversion has encouraged several technological innovations in cultivation systems, including intercropping planting patterns. The study aimed to study various intercropping patterns with several varieties of maize which can increase production. The research was conducted at the Sawah Baru Experimental Station of the IPB University, Darmaga, Bogor, from November 2018 to February 2019 using a split-plot design with three replications. The main plot was the cropping systems, consisting of monoculture, single-row intercropping, double-rows intercropping, and triple-rows intercropping. The subplot was the maize varieties, consisting of Sukmaraga, Bima 19, and BISI 2. Regression and correlation analyses were carried out to determine the relationship between microclimate and productivity. The results showed that the productivity of maize and soybean was affected by the interaction between cropping patterns and varieties. The highest productivity of maize was obtained from the intercropping pattern of double rows of BISI 2 maize (7.33 ton ha-1), while the lowest maize productivity was in the intercropping pattern of a single row of Bima 19 maize (2.93 ton ha-1). The highest productivity of soybean was obtained from the intercropping cropping pattern of a single row of BISI 2 maize. The effect of microclimate on various cropping patterns with productivity in this study was a little. Land equivalent ratios (LER) in all treatments were greater than 1 except for intercropping 1 row of Bima 19 maize, indicating that intercropping can increase land productivity. Abstract

Varietas cabai yang stabil dan berdaya hasil tinggi diperlukan untuk peningkatan produksi cabai nasional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi stabilitas hasil 16 genotipe cabai rawit (Capsicum fructescens L.) dengan menggunakan analisis stabilitas parametrik (Francis-Kannenberg, Wricke, Finlay-Wilkinson, AMMI dan GGE). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Agustus 2018 sampai September 2019 pada empat lokasi, yaitu Kolaka, Palembang, Aceh dan Bogor. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan kelompok lengkap teracak dengan tiga ulangan. Genotipe cabai rawit yang dievaluasi adalah F5285290-237-6-1, F6285290-6-10-1-1, F5285290-290-2-1, F5285290-290-9-1, F5285290-290-9-3, F5321290-40-2-1, F5285290-123-6-15, F6321290-252-10-8-4, F5285290-38-6-3, F6321290-252-10-8-23, F6321290-252-10-8-75, Bonita IPB, Inul (varietas lokal), Cakra putih (varietas komersial), Taruna (varietas komersial), dan Tobasco. Interaksi genotipe x lingkungan berpengaruh nyata terhadap hasil. genotipe F6321290-252-10-8-4 diidentifikasi sebagai genotipe stabil berdasarkan beberapa metode stabilitas parametrik, namun genotipe tersebut tidak memiliki rata-rata hasil tertinggi. Sedangkan analisis GGE mengidentifikasi Bonita IPB sebagai genotipe yang stabil dengan daya hasil tertinggi. Kata kunci: AMMI, analisis stabilitas, cabai rawit, varietas

Abstract

Kecipir (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus (L.) DC) dijuluki sebagai kedelai daerah tropis dengan potensi kandungan gizi tinggi. Kurangnya informasi mengenai komponen keragaman dan heritabilitas dalam pemuliaan kecipir menjadi salah satu penyebab belum berkembangnya program pemuliaan kecipir di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh informasi ragam, heritabilitas dan hubungan antar karakter kecipir. Penelitian dilakukan di tiga lingkungan yaitu dua lingkungan di Bogor, dan satu lingkungan di Palembang, pada bulan Januari 2019 sampai dengan Juni 2020. Pengujian dilakukan terhadap 11 genotipe kecipir dan 11 karakter pengamatan. Hasil menunjukkan karakter umur berbunga dan jumlah biji per polong memiliki keragaman genetik yang luas. Nilai heritabilitas tinggi ditunjukkan oleh karakter jumlah biji per polong (89.48%), umur berbunga (83.32%), panjang polong muda (70.97%) dan bobot 100 biji (68.63%). Hasil analisis lintas menunjukkan karakter produktivitas polong muda (1.07), bobot biji per plot (0.81), umur berbunga (0.29), panjang polong muda (0.17), lebar polong muda (0.12), bobot biji per tanaman (0.09), dan bobot 100 biji (0.01) memiliki pengaruh langsung positif terhadap produktivitas biji kecipir. Umur berbunga, jumlah biji per polong dan bobot biji per tanaman merupakan karakter yang tepat menjadi kriteria seleksi dalam merakit kecipir berproduksi tinggi.
