Abstract

This study aims to explore the effectiveness of Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) integrated with the local culture of Hem Re Yegokhe in improving the critical thinking skills of elementary school teacher candidates in a multicultural area. Using an explanatory sequential mixed methods design, this study began with a quantitative pretest–posttest measurement using an instrument based on the five dimensions of the California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST), and continued with qualitative exploration through interviews and observations. A total of 173 students were divided into experimental and control groups. The results showed that the integration of the IBL approach and local cultural practices significantly improved critical thinking skills, especially in the dimensions of interpretation, analysis, and inference. The dimensions of evaluation and explanation experienced a more moderate increase, which was associated with the limited time of the intervention. Thematic analysis supported the quantitative findings and emphasized the role of cultural context in encouraging deep reflection and contextual awareness. The findings also revealed a gap in achievement between students from 3T and non-3T areas, indicating the need for scaffolding strategies and strengthening intercultural competence and social empathy. This study provides an empirical contribution to the development of a locally relevant and socially inclusive cultural-based pedagogical model. Implications include strengthening teacher education curricula, lecturer training, and policies that support the integration of local knowledge as a learning resource. Further research is recommended to be conducted longitudinally, develop culturally based assessment instruments, and explore other cultural practices as learning contexts.

Abstract

Areca atau yang juga dikenal sebagai buah pinang, adalah salah satu tanaman yang memiliki peranan penting dalam kehidupan masyarakat Papua. Penelitian dilakukan bertujuan untuk mengetahui ekstensi mengenai buah pinang yang digunakan sebagai alat kontak bagi masyarakat Papua di Arso Swakarsa, serta mengetahui ekstensi mengenai buah pinang yang dipandang mampu menjadi alat kontak bagi masyarakat setempat. Metode yang diterapkan pada penelitian “Pinang Sebagai Kontak Masyarakat Papua (Studi Kasus pada Masyarakat Papua di Arso Swakarsa Kabupaten Keerom)” menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini berfokus pada praktik konsumsi buah pinang pada masyarakat setempat. Penggunaan pinang menjadi kebiasaan yang digunakan sebagai kudapan dan simbol budaya yang menunjukkan betapa pentingnya pinang dalam kehidupan sehari-hari baik kalangan anak-anak hingga dewasa. Menggunakan pinang sebagai pembuka komunikasi, dapat menciptakan momen yang santai dan menyenangkan untuk berinteraksi dengan orang lain, memperkuat ikatan sosial, dan kebersamaan serta memperluas jaringan sosial. Selain itu adanya para-para pinang masyarakat Papua di Arso Swakarsa dapat menjadikannya sebuah media bertukar informasi, saling berbagi cerita serta saling berdiskusi, saling mendengarkan dan memberika perhatian satu sama lain. Menciptakan rasa kebersamaan dan persaudaraan yang kuat dalam terjalinnya ikatan sosial. Namun demikian para-para pinang mulai mengalami pergeseran akibat dari kesibukan masyarakat yang menimbulkan pola individualis dalam masyarakat.

Abstract

Stunting merupakan masalah gizi kronis yang berkaitan dengan ketidakseimbangan mikrobiota usus. Mikronutrien seperti zinc, zat besi, dan vitamin A berperan penting dalam menjaga integritas mukosa usus serta mendukung pertumbuhan bakteri menguntungkan seperti Lactobacillus dan Bifidobacterium. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi hubungan antara mikronutrien dan mikrobiota usus pada anak stunting melalui tinjauan pustaka dari jurnal kedokteran Indonesia lima tahun terakhir. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa kekurangan mikronutrien memicu disbiosis usus, meningkatkan bakteri patogen, dan menurunkan bakteri probiotik. Intervensi berupa suplementasi sinbiotik dan fortifikasi mikronutrien terbukti efektif memperbaiki komposisi mikrobiota dan mendukung pertumbuhan anak. Faktor eksternal seperti pola makan, sanitasi, dan penggunaan antibiotik juga memengaruhi keseimbangan mikrobiota. Oleh karena itu, intervensi stunting harus bersifat holistik. Kajian ini menegaskan adanya hubungan signifikan antara mikronutrien dan mikrobiota usus pada anak stunting.

Abstract

(General Background) The alignment of science assessment with students’ socio-cultural contexts is essential to ensure fairness and meaningful measurement of learning outcomes. (Specific Background) However, most contextualized assessments in science education emphasize content validity without empirically confirming their construct structure, limiting their interpretive strength. (Knowledge Gap) There remains a lack of studies that integrate content, empirical, and construct validity evidence in culturally responsive instruments, particularly those designed in parallel pre–post forms. (Aims) This study aimed to develop and validate an ethnoscience-based pre–post instrument by linking Aiken’s Content Validity Ratio (CVR, 4-point scale) with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA, CR/AVE). (Results) Findings from five expert reviews showed 22 of 40 items exceeded the conservative threshold (Aiken’s V ≥ 0.80; CVR = 1.00). Field trials (N = 50) demonstrated moderate difficulty and positive discrimination, while CFA confirmed a three-factor structure with good fit (χ² = 34.203, df = 24, p = 0.083; CFI = 0.94; TLI = 0.92; RMSEA = 0.065). Composite reliability ranged from 0.718–0.797, and AVE was adequate for two factors (0.506; 0.568) and marginal for one (0.459). (Novelty) The study presents a transparent “content–empirical–construct” decision trail rarely reported in ethnoscience assessment. (Implications) This integrative validation framework demonstrates that cultural responsiveness and psychometric rigor can coexist, guiding fair and contextual science learning evaluations. Highlights: Integrates Aiken–CVR and CFA for comprehensive validity evidence. Confirms three-factor model with strong reliability and moderate AVE. Demonstrates synergy between cultural relevance and measurement rigor. Abstract

Demam berdarah dengue (DBD) merupakan penyakit endemis di beberapa daerah di dunia. Mengetahui bagaimana gambaran jenjang pendidikan dengan tingkat pengetahuan orang tua tentang pencegahan demam berdarah dengue pada anak. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan untuk penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kuantitatif dengan menggunakan desain cross sectional. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner yang akan dibagikan kepada orang tua pasien anak di Rumah Sakit Bhayangkara Makassar. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini diperoleh data berdasarkan usia sebagian besar berusia 30-39 tahun yaitu sebanyak 38 (44.7%) dan yang paling sedikit usia 50-59 tahun yaitu 1 orang (1.2%). Berdasarkan jenis kelamin, sebagian besar responden perempuan yaitu 72 orang (84.7%) dan laki-laki sebanyak 13 orang (15.3%). Berdasarkan pekerjaan didapatkan hasil responden yang bekerja sebanyak 47 orang (55.3%) dan yang tidak bekerja sebanyak 38 orang (44.7%).

Abstract

Stroke adalah  keadaan dimana hilangnya sebagian atau seluruh fungsi neurologis (defisit neurologik fokal atau global) yang terjadi secara mendadak, dan berlangsung   lebih dari 24 jam. Depresi secara signifikan lebih sering terjadi pada pasien stroke. Studi longitudinal sistematis  pertama dari depresi pasca-stroke menemukan tingkat keparahan gangguan dalam aktivitas kehidupan sehari-hari, fungsi sosial, dan fungsi kognitif yang terkait dengan depresi pasca-stroke. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik pasien pasca stroke dengan gejala depresi berdasarkan usia, jenis kelamin, tingkat pendidikan, jenis stroke, dan tingkatan gejala depresi di RS Bhayangkara Makassar. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan rancangan potong lintang. Teknik pengumpulan data digunakan data primer melalui wawancara dan pengisian kuesioner BDI II. Dari penelitian ini didapatkan 100 sampel pasien, dengan karakteristik pasien pasca stroke dengan gejala depresi berdasarkan usia paling banyak >60 tahun dengan jumlah 42 orang. Karakteristik berdasarkan jenis kelamin paling banyak didapatkan pada perempuan dengan jumlah 52 orang. Karakteristik  berdasarkan pendidikan paling banyak didapatkan pada pendidikan SMA dengan jumlah 39 orang. Karakteristik berdasarkan jenis stroke paling banyak didapatkan pada stroke iskemik 84 orang. Karakteristik berdasarkan tingkatan gejala depresi didapatkan gejala depresi ringan paling banyak dijumpai dengan jumlah 56 orang.

Abstract

Kegiatan Ini Bertemakan “Sosialisasi Kebijakan Perlindungan dan Afirmasi Bagi Orang Asli Papua Dalam Memaksimalkan Penjualan Komoditas Lokal Di Kota Jayapura”. Kegiatan yang yang bertajuk Sosialisasi Kebijakan Perlindungan dan Afirmasi Dalam Memaksimalkan Penjualan Komoditas Lokal Bagi Orang Asli Papua Di Kota Jayapura memanfaatkan metode observasi dan penyuluhan door to door yang dilakukan kepada pedagang yang ada di pasar. Adapun tujuan kegiatan pengabdian ini guna membantu pemerintah dalam mensosialisasikan kebijakan kaitannya dengan regulasi perlindungan dan afirmasi guna memaksimalkan penjualan komoditas lokal bagi orang asli papua, serta memberikan pemahaman kepada masyarakat baik kepada non orang asli papua, begitu juga dengan orang asli papua mengenai tujuan lahirnya kebijakan perlindungan dan afirmasi bagi pedagan orang asli papua. Hasil pelaksanaan kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa dengan adanya sosialisasi yang telah dilakukan, masyarakat menjadi mengetahui mengenai kebijakan tersebut dan menjadikan masyarakat lokal telah diakomodir hal-hal yang menjadi aspirasi dari mereka. Karena regulasi ini merupakan cerminan keberpihakan untuk pemberdayaan masyarakat lokal untuk dapat mengelola, mendistribusikan dan menjadikan komoditas lokal sebagai produk pengembangan yang terpusat pada mereka. Hal ini untuk mendukung laju percepatan dan pengembangan sumberdaya manusia pada tingkat lokal.

Abstract

Efforts to enhance a creative economy via community-based ecotourism are vital for regional development. Using a qualitative method, this study examines the state of ecotourism, indigenous community involvement, and the challenges faced in fostering creative economy practices in Youtefa Bay Park. The findings highlight the area's potential to boost the local economy through ecotourism that integrates indigenous knowledge, exploiting its natural beauty, cultural assets, and historical heritage. Collaborative management involving the government, private sector, and local communities is essential for sustainable growth. The study emphasizes the need for local regulations and initiatives to increase regional income and development, demonstrating ecotourism's role as a driver for economic and cultural preservation in Papua. The collaborative model in tourism management with recognition of customary assets in Youtefa Bay has become an urgent demand for the government to establish a blueprint for inclusive and community rights-based ecotourism development policies within the framework of special autonomy.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of a community-based, culturally responsive science learning model in improving basic scientific literacy among elementary students in the Indonesia–Papua New Guinea border region. The research addresses the persistent problem of low scientific literacy, which is largely caused by instructional practices that overlook the ecological and cultural contexts of Indigenous Papuan communities. Using a one-group pretest–posttest design, the study involved 89 students from three Indigenous community schools. A culturally adapted 12-item instrument was employed to assess five dimensions of scientific literacy: conceptual knowledge, scientific processes, scientific ethics, attitudes toward science, and scientific behaviors. Data were analyzed using Shapiro–Wilk tests, paired t-tests or Wilcoxon signed-rank tests, N-Gain scores, and effect sizes. Results demonstrated statistically significant improvements across all dimensions (p < 0.001). N-Gain values ranged from 0.31 to 0.36, indicating moderate learning gains, while effect sizes fell within the small-to-moderate range. These findings show that integrating local ecological practices—particularly through sago-based inquiry activities—and involving Indigenous community members meaningfully enhanced students’ engagement, conceptual understanding, and reflective scientific behaviors. The study concludes that a culturally grounded community-based instructional approach contributes to more equitable, contextually relevant, and sustainable science education in Indigenous and borderland school settings.

Abstract

This study addressed the need to strengthen science literacy in the Indonesia–Papua New Guinea border region through Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) by developing and validating a context-appropriate teacher readiness instrument for indigenous communities. The instrument was specified as a multidimensional model encompassing pedagogical knowledge, efficacy, school contextual support, culturally responsive planning and materials, culturally responsive assessment, and community collaboration. A layered, cross-sectional validation was conducted: expert judgment for content validity, target-user assessment for face validity/readability, a limited pilot (approximately 30 respondents), and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) on the main sample; measurement invariance (MI) across gender, years of service, and certification was tested sequentially. Content validity met predefined standards: all items achieved I-CVI ≥ .78 and S-CVI/Ave = .917; qualitative feedback prompted the alignment of terminology and local examples without altering construct coverage. Internal reliability was adequate (α and ω ≥ .70). CFA indicated acceptable fit; most loadings were ≥ .50; CR ≥ .70; AVE ≥ .50; and discriminant validity was satisfied. Measurement invariance was established up to the scalar level for gender and certification, and up to the metric level for years of service; comparisons of latent means by years of service therefore require a partial scalar approach based on the problematic indicators. A known-groups test showed a practically meaningful difference between certified and non-certified teachers (Cohen’s d ≈ 0.63; p < .05). Overall, the instrument is culturally adapted and empirically validated, enabling program evaluation and targeted professional development toward inclusive, culturally responsive science education.
