Abstract

Fasciolosis is a disease caused by infection with liver fluke (Fasciola sp). Fasciolosis is a parasitic disease that is important because it can cause high economic losses. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of gamal (Gliricidia sepium) leaf extract against mortality of Fasciola gigantica in vitro study. In present study was completely randomized design with six treatments and each treatment were divided into four replications. A total of 240 specimens from infected cattles were used in this study. The observation and recording of F. gigantica mortality in all treatments with concentrations of gamal leaf extract P1 (1%), P2 (2%), P3 (3), P4 (4%), K + (Nitroxynil 2%) and K- (physiological NaCl) rate was done in 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 210 and 240 minutes, respectively. The mortality of F. gigantica was confirmed if there was no movement when triggered by anatomy tweezers then dipped in slightly warm water (50 15í¢„Æ’"> ). The data was analyzed using ANAVA Faktorial and continued with Duncan Multiple Range Test. The results of this study were shown the lowest and the highest mortality rate recorded at minutes 30 and 240 respectively. Moreover, the mean of mortality rate were peaked in nitroxynil (K+) and 1% gamal leaf extract treatment, while the lowest mean of mortality rate occurs in NaCl (K-) treatment. Present study conclude that gamal leaf extract has anthelmintic effect on the mortality rate of Fasciola gigantica. Gamal leaf extract with 1% concentration was claimed to be the most effective.

Abstract

Reptiles as exotic pets become more commonly desired by society, one of which is the reticulated python. Pythons kept as pets also have a risk of disease infection including helminthiasis. Worm parasite infects snake by the oral route. Some snake feed including frogs and mice can act as an intermediate host for worm parasites. A male reticulated python was kept by a member of the Banyuwangi reptile community and was presented with healthy and normal eating habits. This case study was to determine the worm parasite in the wild-caught reticulated python kept as an exotic pet. Fresh fecal samples were stored in a container with 70% alcohol added as a preservative. The sample was then evaluated in the laboratory and examined using the native method, floatation method, and simple sedimentation method. As result, under the microscope to be the Capillaria spp. the egg was observed.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the anthelmintic activity of the ethanol extract of gamal leaves (Gliricidia sepium) against Ascaridia galli in vitro. There were six treatment groups and each consisted of four replicates. This study used ten A. galli in each treatment for all replications. Observation and recording of death of A. galli was carried out at the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th hours. Death of A. galli was declared if there was no movement when clamped with anatomical tweezers. The data obtained were analyzed using the ANOVA test and continued with Duncan's test. The results showed that the ethanol extract of gamal leaves had an anthelmintic effect on A. galli worms in vitro. The extract with a concentration of 5% has almost the same anthelmintic properties as piperazine citrate 10 mg/ml. In conclusion, the higher the concentration of the extract, the higher the anthelmintic properties.

Abstract

This study aimed to explain the case of ectoparasite infection and the life cycle of parasites in turtledoves (Geopelia striata). Sarcoptes sp. one of the ectoparasites belonging to the phylum Arthropods, the Arachnid class, and the order Acarina.Sarcoptes sp. can infect the skin of the host through direct contact with infected animals and the environment. Sarcoptes sp. infects by forming a lump under the skin and severe infection causes a crust to form on the skin and is accompanied by itching. Physical examination was carried out by means of inspection of the infected skin area. Subsequent examinations were carried out on the dead skin cells mixed with fresh manure macroscopically and microscopically. Macroscopic examination was done by observing the condition of the skin that is discraped. Microscopic examination using native examination. Based on the negative examination, it was found that there were Sarcoptes sp. mites on an objective microscope with a 40x magnification. Geopelia striata can be infected with Sarcoptes sp. through direct contact with sick animals. The incubation period of Sarcoptes sp. after infection from infected animals was 3-6 weeks.
