Abstract

This study aims to determine how the efforts made to improve student achievement by using synthetic division in sub subject of many ethnic division in grade XI Taman Madya (SMA) Tamansiswa Medan, in the academic year 2009/2010. The learning method applied in this research is the method of Synthetic Division with grooves Classroom Action Research (CAR), which is composed of two cycles. The subjects were all students of class XI Science Park Madya (SMA) Tamansiswa Medan Year 2009/2010 which amounted to 33 students and the object of research is the result of learning mathematics class XI IPA Taman Madya (SMA) Tamansiswa Medan in learning mathematics pambelajaran year 2009 / 2010. Instruments used in this research is to test and observation sheet. Data collected through the test description totaling 10 questions, which before has been tested to a test of validity, reliability and level of distress so that the instrument fit for use as a research instrument. The collection of data through observation is based indicators compiled students communication skills in the activities undertaken pemberlajaran 2 meetings.Results showed learning synthetic division method can improve students mathematics achievement in the subject sub division of polynomials in class XI. The increase in mathematics achievement in terms of the average value of 54.33 after the student initially apply action (first cycle) the average value of students increased to 68.03 and continued administration of the action (second cycle) the average value of students increased to 79, 42. So is the percentage of the value of mastery learning students from the beginning (preliminary data) students ketuntasannya 21.21% after the action on the test applied first cycle increased to 69.69% and the test cycle II increased to 87.87%. This study was used was successful because in classical learning completeness students has reached 80%. This shows that the application of the method of synthetic division on the subject of sub division of polynomials can improve student achievement, and can be used as an alternative to increase the attention and interest of students in learning division of polynomials.

Abstract

This study aims to produce products realistic mathematics learning model based on mandailing culture that meets validity for junior high school students. The learning model is the development of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) which is collaborated with the Mandailing culture, meaning that all the principles contained in the RME are applied in the model involving aspects of Mandailing culture in each component model and the component implementation of learning in the classroom. Research activities include developing models and supporting atmosphere of learning activities. Furthermore, to achieve the stated objectives, in this study four-D model development study was carried out with stages, namely the defining stage, planning phase, development stage and dissemination stage. The defining phase is carried out through an analysis of the Mandailing community culture to define and define social situations that can be applied to the learning system, then in learning activities an analysis of the objectives and boundaries of the material is analyzed. Furthermore, at the design stage aims to prepare prototypes of models and supporting atmosphere of learning activities. At the development stage validation is carried out. The dissemination phase is then carried out which is a socialization of learning models and tools that have been validated in junior high school teachers. Development research conducted provides acquisition of realistic mathematics learning models based on Mandailing culture in teaching mathematical connection skills and atmosphere support learning activities that meet validity and are well applied to junior high school students.

Abstract

Rendahnya kreativitas menulis karangan deskripsi siswa merupakan masalah utama dalam penelitian. Hal ini salahsatunya disebabkan oleh kurang bervariasinya buku ajar yang digunakan siswa dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Kegiatan pembelajaran perlu melibatkan penggunaan buku yang menggunakan pendekatan yang relevan dengan materi yang dikembangkan serta terintegrasi dengan kearifan lokal siswa. Maka dari itu perlu melakukan pengembangan buku ajar yang melibatkan pendekatan kontekstual dengan berbasis kearifan lokal untuk membelajarkan kreativitas menulis karangan deskripsi siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan praktikalitas produk buku ajar dengan melibatkan tahapan model plomp yang meliputi Preliminary research, Prototyping stage, Assessment phase. Instrumen penelitian adalah angket respon kepraktisan buku ajar siswa dan guru. Studi yang dilakukan melibatkan partisipan yang terdiri dari siswa dan guru yang berperan dalam pelaksanaan uji coba terhadap produk buku ajar yang telah dikembangkan. Hasil penelitian menunujukkan bahwa kepraktisan produk buku ajar dari respon siswa dengan capaian 83,67% (kategori baik) dan respon guru dengan capaian 85,42% (kategori baik). Oleh karena itu, buku ajar yang dirancang dengan pendekatan kontekstual yang berlandaskan pada kearifan lokal memenuhi standar praktis dalam mendukung pengembangan kreativitas siswa dalam menulis karangan deskripsi. Selanjutnya dalam ujicoba produk buku ajar yang dilaksanakan siswa cenderung merasa senang dan antusias serta memiliki motivasi yang baik dalam proses pembelajaran.
