Abstract

Language learning should focus more on communicative orientation. However, in practice, the teaching of Arabic in Indonesia faces numerous challenges, particularly in the learning process, which often does not align with the goals and expectations of teachers. This study aims to describe the design of Arabic language instruction based on language immersion for teachers at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah level, addressing aspects such as competence, strategy, and assessment in teaching. This research employs a literature review approach, examining documents related to language immersion models as a reference for designing the ideal competencies, strategies, and evaluations for Arabic language learning in Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah. Data analysis in this study uses the Miles and Huberman model, which includes the following steps: data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The design of Arabic language instruction at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah level requires the coordination of multiple parties, such as teachers, in planning the lessons and the school in supporting processes and activities related to Arabic language learning. Arabic instruction at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah level can be carried out inside and outside the classroom, drawing on experiences and examples of activities from Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) that can be implemented at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah level. Furthermore, the learning of Arabic in schools for students at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah level should resemble how they learn their mother tongue at home.

Abstract

The art of calligraphy painting by Syaiful Adnan and its beauty are interesting to study due to their distinctive characteristics. Adnan’s script or type of writing differs from the standard style of script from the Middle East. In his hand, creative processes and various dynamics of aesthetic aspects tend to glide calmly. Syaiful Adnan has had solo and collective exhibitions at home and abroad which present the holy verses of the Qur'an as well as hadith and Mahfudzot or words of wisdom as central themes. This research uses archival research method to study various references and documentation as well as direct interviews. Data is analysed inductively by organizing it, describing it into units, synthesizing, composing into patterns, choosing what is important and what will be studied, and present it in this article.  The study discovered that spiritual aspects found in Syaiful Adnan’s calligraphy painting is a form of representation of monotheism and dhikr. The oneness of Allah can easily be understood through a series of verses of the Qur'an that contain all the greatness, majesty and omnipotence of the Almighty. From here we can see that the works of Syaiful Adnan were made a communication medium for the audience's awareness and Syaiful Adnan's own self. Furthermore, Syaiful's calligraphy is also a form of visual dhikr, reading and realizing continuously about the verses of God.

Abstract

The discourse of language immersion is the antithesis of the language environment, which has been considered the ideal endeavor in Arabic language pedagogy in Islamic universities in Indonesia. In contrast to the language environment, which requires community instruments to optimize Arabic, language immersion looks more from the perspective of the quantity and quality of students interacting with Arabic. This paper examines the description of the Arabic language immersion program in Islamic universities in Indonesia. This paper is in the form of a case study. The author chose Islamic universities in the Yogyakarta area as the object of research, namely: Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta, Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University, Ahmad Dahlan University, and Pandanaran Islamic College. Data collection used questionnaires, interviews, and documentation; data analysis borrowed from the Miles and Huberman procedure. The study results indicate that Arabic language immersion programs in Islamic universities in Indonesia universally use an artificial immersion basis to provide students with Arabic language knowledge and skills to form communication competencies like those in Arab society. The immersion model with the most significant percentage of use is the partial immersion model. The methods used are qowaid wa tarjamah, direct method, audio lingual-visual method, communicative method, and eclectic method. Meanwhile, the effectiveness and efficiency of the immersion program will be evaluated using test and non-test methods.
