Abstract

General Background: The growing competition among higher education institutions requires Islamic universities to develop strong competitive strategies. Specific Background: Private Islamic Religious Higher Education Institutions (PTKIS) in Sidoarjo represent a significant portion of Islamic universities in Indonesia, yet their competitive edge remains underexplored. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies have not sufficiently addressed how PTKIS transform their strengths into marketable advantages in alignment with both Marx’s commodification theory and Porter’s strategic management framework. Aims: This study aims to analyze and reveal the competitive advantages of PTKIS through differentiation, cost leadership, and focus strategies. Results: Findings show PTKIS A emphasizes differentiation, while PTKIS B prioritizes cost-focused strategies. Both institutions commodify their advantages through curriculum innovation, industry-based programs, partnerships, human resource development, technology adoption, marketing, and superior student services. Novelty: The research highlights how PTKIS commodify competitive advantages into tangible educational products and services, offering a unique insight into the intersection of Islamic education and market-oriented strategies. Implications: The study provides a practical reference for higher education institutions and policymakers to strengthen strategic positioning, attract students, and ensure institutional sustainability. Highlights: PTKIS apply distinct strategies: differentiation vs. cost leadership. Competitive advantages commodified into curriculum, partnerships, and services. Offers practical insights for sustaining Islamic higher education competitiveness. Keywords: Competitive Advantages, Commodification, Islamic Universities, Strategic Management, Higher Education

Abstract

One of the fundamental problems faced by Muslims is the low ability to read and write the Qur'an properly and correctly among the younger generation. The determination of learning strategies becomes the most important part in this process, especially the learning strategy of the Qur'an with the Tahsin approach. This approach is very necessary because the concepts of learning strategies are not easy to implement. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to describe the Al-Qur’an  learning strategy with the Tahsin approach in improving the quality of Al-Qur’an  reading of students in Islamic Boarding Schools. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The research location is Bangsal Islamic Boarding School. The data collection methods used include observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique uses descriptive analysis. The results showed that the Al-Qur’an  learning strategy with the Tahsin approach at the Bangsal Islamic Boarding School was carried out through a leveling strategy consisting of three classes: reading class 1, reading class 2, and reading class 3, with tajweed and makharijul letter material tailored to different levels of difficulty. Supporting and inhibiting factors for learning implementation come from two main factors, namely internal factors and external factors. This research has implications for improving the quality of students' Qur'an reading.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia has forced education to transition from face-to-face learning to online learning. This shift has posed various challenges, especially in terms of communication and students' understanding of the material. Educators are expected to have teaching strategies that capture students' attention and ensure a deep understanding of the material being taught. This transformation challenges educators to be more creative and adaptive in managing Distance Learning (PJJ). One effective approach is Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL). The TaRL approach emphasizes diagnostic assessments to evaluate students' potential, characteristics, needs, and developmental stages. Based on the assessment results, educators can plan appropriate learning processes and group students according to their skill levels. This learning process is complemented by formative and summative assessments to evaluate students' understanding and progress. With this systematic approach, it is hoped that the challenges of online learning can be addressed, and learning objectives can be optimally achieved.

Abstract

The significance of Al Islam Kemuhammadiyahan education within Indonesian higher education is underscored by Muhammadiyah's commitment to integrating Islamic principles with contemporary educational needs. This approach is vital in addressing the growing complexities of a multicultural society.Muhammadiyah, founded in 1912 by KH Ahmad Dahlan, emphasizes a moderate and progressive Islamic education that combines academic excellence with moral development. This educational model is designed to foster individuals who are both intellectually competent and ethically grounded.Despite extensive documentation on Muhammadiyah's educational principles, there is limited empirical research on how these principles are effectively applied in multicultural settings within higher education institutions. This study employs a qualitative case study approach to explore the implementation of multicultural-based Al Islam Kemuhammadiyahan education at Muhammadiyah higher education institutions. It aims to analyze how these institutions integrate Islamic values with multicultural principles in their educational practices.
