Motivation plays a crucial role in driving individuals to achieve goals and lead a fulfilling life. This study focuses on assessing the motivation levels of farmers engaged in raising Bangkok Chickens in Unaaha District, Konawe Regency. Conducted in March-April 2023, the research involved 30 farmers as respondents. Data collection utilized a questionnaire, and subsequent analysis was carried out descriptively. The findings revealed that 80% of Bangkok Chicken breeders fell within the motivated category, with the remaining 20% classified as less motivated. The primary motivations identified among farmers were entertainment (39%), economic factors (33%), and social aspects, which were comparatively lower (28%). This study provides insights into the diverse motivations driving farmers in the poultry industry, contributing to a better understanding of their practices and aspirations.

Abstract

This study investigates the reproductive performance of Bali heifers in the breeding centers of Tinanggea, Palangga, Baito, and Buke Districts within the South Konawe District. Conducted from November 2022 to March 2023, the research was situated in Roraya Village, covering Asingi, Wonua Morini, Sambahule, Wulele, and Bomba – bomba. The sample comprised 24 Bali heifers, each having calved at least twice, from each sub-district, and 60 farmer breeders as respondents from each sub-district. Quantitative descriptive analysis was employed for data analysis, focusing on variables such as age at first parturition, postpartum mating (PPM), service per conception (S/C), and calving interval (CI). Supporting variables included age, education level, and livestock-raising experience. The research findings revealed the age of first calving ranged from 26.8 ± 0.2 to 29.6 ± 0.5 months, postpartum mating from 69.5 ± 0.4 to 96.5 ± 1.4 days, service per conception (S/C) from 1.0 ± 0.0 to 1.3 ± 0.5 times, and calving interval (CI) from 370.0 ± 0.5 to 405.0 ± 1.4 days. The results indicate that the reproductive performance of Bali heifers in the breeding centers of South Konawe Regency, particularly in Tinanggea, Palangga, and Buke, is still classified as very good. At the same time, Baito District shows a relatively efficient performance.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the profile of the farming business, the maintenance of Kampung chickens, and the marketing of Kampung chickens at Alisa Farm. The study was conducted from May to June 2023, located at the Alisa Farm Kampung chicken business in Alebo Village, Konda District, South Konawe Regency. The research location was determined purposively (purposive sampling), and the respondents in this study were the owners of the Alisa Farm Kampung chicken business in Alebo Village, Konda District. The data analysis used in this study is descriptive qualitative analysis and marketing margin analysis. The research variables observed include the technical management of Kampung chicken maintenance, the marketing chain, and the marketing margin. The results of the study on Kampung chicken maintenance show that the maintenance system at Alisa Farm uses an intensive system, while the marketing results indicate that the marketing chain in the Alisa Farm Kampung chicken business consists of: Chain I: Farmer => End Consumer; and Chain II: Farmer => Retailer => End Consumer. The marketing margin in Chain II is IDR 10,000 per chicken, while there is no marketing margin in Chain I because no marketing institutions are involved.

Abstract

The advantages of super Kampung chickens include a faster growth period and robust body resistance to diseases. The success of artificial insemination (AI) in poultry is influenced by various factors, such as the holding technique, storage frequency, spermatozoa concentration, male productivity, inseminator skills, insemination time, and reproductive quality. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of holding frequency on the macroscopic and microscopic quality of chicken semen. The research design employed was a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of three treatments and five replications. The treatments included P1 (semen storage once per week), P2 (semen storage twice per week), and P3 (semen storage three times per week). Data analysis was conducted using ANOVA, and in case of a significant e ffect, the least significant difference test (LSD) was performed. The results indicated that semen storage did not have a significant effect (P>0.05) on the macroscopic quality (volume, consistency/thickness, semen pH, color, and odor) of semen from super Kampung chickens. Furthermore, different semen storage frequencies did not significantly impact (P>0.05) spermatozoa movement and motility percentage, but had a substantial effect (P

Abstract

Tolaki chicken is a native breed originating from Southeast Sulawesi, and it is distributed across various regions, including Konawe, South Konawe, Kolaka, East Kolaka, and North Konawe Regencies. These chickens are predominantly utilized for cockfighting purposes. The objective of this study is to analyze the body weight and body dimensions performance of Tolaki chickens aged 1 to 8 weeks. Descriptive analysis was employed for the research data, presenting mean (X̅), standard deviation (SD), and coefficient of variance. The observed variables in this study, along with the measurement methods, included (1) body weight (kg), measured using a scale with a capacity of 2 kg and an accuracy level of 0.01, (2) back length (cm), measured by determining the distance between the last cervical vertebrae and the caudal vertebral bones, (3) chest circumference (cm), measured at the base of the right wing straight down to the sternum bone to the base of the right wing using a measuring tape, (4) wing span length (cm), measured from the humerus bone to the phalanges on both wings using a measuring tape, and (5) shank length (cm), measured from the tibia joint to the beginning of the middle finger joint, using a measuring tape. The study results indicate that body weight increased with age, and the body dimensions of chest circumference and back length experienced a significant increase at 12 weeks of age.
