Abstract

RW 07 Wonokromo Subdistrict is a densely populated neighborhood characterized by a diverse culture that includes immigrants and permanent residents. Health cadres conduct activities related to measuring the growth and development of babies. This encourages researchers to investigate and describe parental parenting patterns and their implications for child development. This research uses a qualitative approach to describe parental parenting patterns and their impact on children's social-emotional development. Ninety- seven sources of information were consulted to gather relevant data for the study. Data collection involved measuring the age, height, and weight of toddlers. The technique employed for data collection was non-test, utilizing observation and questionnaires. As a data collection technique, observation involves observing patterns of human behavior in specific situations to gain insights into the desired phenomenon. Observation sheets were prepared and developed based on breastfeeding, complementary feeding (MPASI), family behavior, and parenting patterns toward children. Findings from the study revealed that while the informants displayed good knowledge and commitment regarding breastfeeding, not all of them provided colostrum to newborns. Mothers exhibited commendable activities in preparing and feeding food, with supervision during satisfactory meals. All mothers fulfilled their duties of accompanying their children during meals. The study also indicated that mothers played a vital role in maintaining children's health, focusing on body and oral hygiene. Mothers actively participated in establishing habits such as bathing their children regularly (2–3 times a day), using soap, and ensuring regular teeth brushing (2 times a day). Additionally, mothers ensured that children received sufficient rest during both day and night.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, negatively affecting child development and the quality of human resources. Early detection through routine monitoring at Posyandu (Pos Pelayanan Terpadu) is crucial for stunting prevention. However, low attendance among under-five children and inaccurate anthropometric measurement by cadres often hinder timely interventions. This study aimed to analyze the association between Posyandu attendance frequency and the accuracy of anthropometric measurement with stunting status among under-five children aged 0–59 months at Puskesmas X. A cross-sectional analytical study involving 100 children selected through multistage cluster sampling was conducted. Primary data were obtained through re-measurement using calibrated anthropometric tools, while secondary data were collected from Posyandu attendance records, KIA books, and cadre measurement recaps. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test with a significance level of p<0.05. The results showed a significant association between Posyandu attendance frequency and stunting status (p = 0.000; OR = 44.33) and between anthropometric measurement accuracy and stunting status (p = 0.017; OR = 0.26). The study concludes that both variables are associated with stunting status among under-five children. Strengthening Posyandu attendance and improving cadre training in accurate anthropometric measurement may enhance early detection and prevention of stunting.

Abstract

Highlights: • Customers expectations at Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital has a higher quality of service. • The handling of complaints has a low performance on the quality of services at Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital. • Improving service quality requires improvements in efficient complaint handling. Abstract: Service quality is essential in health institutions that can affect patient satisfaction and loyalty. The growth in the number of patients at Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia, triggered the diversification of services that require periodic quality control. This study aimed to investigate the performance of 31 departments/units in the hospital, the level of customer satisfaction with services provided, and factors that could influence satisfaction. A survey about service performance, perception, and expectation of services was carried out in 31 departments/units using questionnaires from August to October 2021. Convenient respondents consisted of 2121 patients and their families aged >15. Questionnaire items assessed performance, perceptions, and expectations of health services using the SERVQUAL method. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software was used to perform an analysis of the results of the measurement and the difference in responses between demographic groups of respondents (p<0.05 was significant). The mean performance score was 92.86, and the gap between their perception and expectation averaged -0.23. Customers' expectations of the provider's competence were met, and its performance was perceived to be the best. Meanwhile, handling complaints was perceived as having the lowest performance, while customers' satisfaction over it had not been met. The results showed that the hospital could still not fully meet some of the customer expectations, with immediate improvements needed in handling complaints.

Abstract

Aedes aegypti is a species of mosquito that acts as a vector for the dengue virus. Currently, control of this viral vector has been carried out using synthetic insecticides. However, continued use can lead to the emergence of resistance, necessitating efforts to address this issue. One possible approach is to use natural insecticides derived from plants. One plant considered suitable as a natural insecticide is the extract of crystal guava leaves (Psidium guajava Linn) because it contains bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, and saponins. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using crystal guava leaf extract as a spray insecticide against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. This study used an experimental method with a Control Group Post-Test Design. Ethanol extract of crystal guava leaves (Psidium guajava Linn) was prepared in several concentrations: 22.5%, 45%, and 90%. The spray was then observed on Aedes aegypti mosquitoes for 3, 6, and 24 hours. The concentration was then determined to determine the mosquito-killing power. Analysis was then performed using SPSS to determine the LC50 and LT50 values.

Abstract

Stool examination is an important diagnostic method for detecting intestinal helminths, particularly in tropical regions like Indonesia. Eosin 2% is commonly used to enhance microscopic visualization of helminth eggs but raises concerns regarding toxicity and environmental impact. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of combining roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) and red ixora (Ixora javanica) flower extracts as a natural substitute for eosin in stool examination. This experimental research used a post-test-only control group design with four treatment groups: eosin (positive control), and three extract concentration combinations (60%:40%, 50%:50%, and 70%:30%). The results showed that all extract combinations produced comparable contrast and clarity to eosin in visualizing helminth eggs. The Kruskal–Wallis test indicated no significant difference between treatments (p>0.05). The combination of roselle and red ixora extract can therefore be considered a potential natural alternative to eosin for stool examination without reducing microscopic effectiveness.
