Abstract

Dysmenorrhea, or menstrual pain, is a common condition experienced by women, particularly adolescent girls. Treatment for dysmenorrhea can be administered through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods, including herbal remedies and physical therapy. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of combining herbal use and physical therapy in alleviating menstrual pain. This research employs a scoping review methodology, which involves the search, screening, and synthesis of relevant literature on the topic. The process includes formulating research questions, establishing inclusion and exclusion criteria, conducting literature searches, selecting relevant studies, extracting data, and performing qualitative analysis. The combination of herbal remedies such as ginger, cinnamon, and lavender, along with physical therapies like exercise, yoga, and relaxation techniques, offers a more holistic and effective approach to reducing dysmenorrhea. Herbs possess anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, while physical therapies enhance blood circulation, reduce stress, and release endorphins, thereby complementing each other in the management of menstrual pain. The integration of herbal remedies and physical therapy has the potential to be an effective approach for managing dysmenorrhea. Further research is needed to explore the mechanisms, efficacy, and safety of this combined approach.

Abstract

This study explores the influence of herbal use and culture in midwifery-led care (MLC). The use of herbal medicine in the context of MLC is often influenced by cultural factors, making it crucial to understand the interaction between traditional and modern practices in maternal care. This research employs a scoping review method to examine articles from 2020 to 2024 that discuss the use of herbal medicine in the context of MLC. Data were gathered from various academic databases using keywords related to herbal use, culture, and MLC. Findings indicate that cultural factors significantly influence the preference for herbal medicine among pregnant women, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia, Ethiopia, and Malawi. Additionally, midwives' training on herbal use is crucial to ensure the safety and effectiveness of care. Many midwives show a strong interest in further learning about herbal use, but the lack of clear national guidelines and formal training hinders effective implementation. This study highlights the need for clear national guidelines and collaboration between traditional and modern healthcare providers to enhance the quality of maternal care. Comprehensive training for midwives on herbal use is essential to ensure safe and effective practices in MLC.

Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) definition in 2011, exclusive breastfeeding means providing only breast milk without any other food or drink to the baby from birth to six months of age, except for medications and vitamins. This does not imply that breastfeeding should stop after the six-month period. Instead, breastfeeding should continue until the child reaches two years of age. Breast milk is recognized as the initial, primary, and best food for infants, based on scientific principles. This study aims to identify the relationship between the psychological state of breastfeeding mothers and the success rate of exclusive breastfeeding. This study employs a scoping review method involving the search, screening, and synthesis of literature pertinent to the research topic. The steps involve formulating the research question, setting inclusion and exclusion criteria, conducting literature searches, and selecting relevant literature, data extraction, and qualitative analysis. Psychological factors in mothers, such as high breastfeeding self-efficacy, and the absence of postpartum depression and anxiety, are significantly linked to the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Psychological interventions are needed to support the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Positive psychological factors in mothers, including high breastfeeding self-efficacy and the absence of postpartum depression and anxiety, play a crucial role in supporting the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Interventions to improve the psychological condition of breastfeeding mothers should be implemented to increase the rates of exclusive breastfeeding. Further research is needed to explore the psychological factors influencing the success of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Abstract

The high rate of teenage pregnancy is a serious public health issue caused by limited reproductive health knowledge. Inadequate education makes adolescents vulnerable to risky behaviors, emphasizing the need for appropriate approaches, such as audio-visual media, to enhance understanding. This study comprehensively reviews research on reproductive health education for teenage pregnancy prevention. This study employs a literature review method. Data was collected from PubMed, Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, and Science Direct using adolescent reproductive health and teenage pregnancy from September to October 2024. Inclusion criteria included studies in Indonesian or English, empirical studies on reproductive health education interventions, adolescents aged 10–19 years who had never been pregnant, full-text availability, and publications from 2019 to 2024. Of 854 identified articles, 7 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using a narrative synthesis approach. Findings indicate that reproductive health education improves adolescents' knowledge and attitudes toward pregnancy prevention. Educational interventions using media such as audio-visual content, comics, and videos are highly effective. Adolescents with previously limited awareness showed significant improvement after receiving reproductive health education. These findings highlight the importance of developing tailored educational strategies, particularly media-based programs, to effectively reduce teenage pregnancy rates

Abstract

One important factor influencing moms' and babies' health is the husband's engagement throughout pregnancy. Numerous studies have demonstrated that spouses' active involvement can enhance mothers' physical and mental well-being and solidify family ties.Cultural conventions that view pregnancy as the responsibility of women and spouses' ignorance of pregnancy health frequently hinder this involvement.Reviewing the role of husbands in helping wives throughout pregnancy and identifying the obstacles they encounter are the goals of the study, and the study's ramifications include the necessity of methods to boost husband participation in pregnancy support, including social interventions, health policies, and education. It is anticipated that this will strengthen family ties and enhance the health of mothers and babies. There are inclusion and exclusion criteria, 16 references from 2019–2024, and a narrative review design for the literature study that supports the idea that having a husband during pregnancy benefits both the mother and the fetus. The analysis is presented narratively using data collection methods from the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. The husband's engagement in the pregnancy and the variables influencing it are the primary subjects of discussion. The findings demonstrated that spouses who were physically and emotionally involved throughout pregnancy improved the health of both the mother and the unborn child and improved family ties.Obstacles include societal expectations and husbands' ignorance of pregnancy health issues continue to be problems. This study highlights the value of social interventions and health education for husbands to promote their involvement during pregnancy. Improved maternal and child well-being outcomes are anticipated with increased involvement.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is frequently reported by adolescents. Physical exercises is one method of overcoming the symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea. Consistent physical activity has been shown to induce the synthesis of endorphins, which function as analgesics within the body. This study presents a comprehensive review to synthesize evidence regarding the relation between physical activity or exercise with dysmenorrhea and how exercise can ameliorate dysmenorrhea in adolescents. This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method to identify articles published within the last three years (2021-2023) via PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. This process yielded seven pertinent studies. The studies have demonstrated that engaging in physical activity can effectively alleviate the symptoms associated with menstrual discomfort. Physical exercise in regular time for a minimum of thirty minutes, three times per week, can also contribute to the alleviation of pain associated with menstrual discomfort among adolescent females diagnosed with primary dysmenorrhea. Isometric exercise, massage therapy, yoga, electrotherapy, connective tissue manipulation, stretching, kinesio tape, progressive relaxation exercise, aviva stretching exercise, stretching exercises, core strengthening exercise and aerobic exercise are the recommended forms of physical exercise in reducing the impact of primary dysmenorrhea. However, the extent to which one experiences these benefits is contingent upon the nature and intensity of the exercise.
