Abstract

ABSTRACT Families with patrilineal cultural backgrounds such as the Minang, Javanese and Chinese emphasize that the father's duty is to earn a living, while the mother's duty is to take care of the children and the household. Many highly educated women are willing to leave office work and decide to return to their nature as a full-time mother. Mother’s role has a big influence in creating family happiness and prosperity. As time went by, full--time mother experienced parental burnout due to new routines. This research consists of three variables, parental burnout as independent variable and family well-being as dependent variable. These two variables are mediated by resilience. Parental burnout is a fatigue syndrome caused by excessive chronic stress in the role of mother. This is caused by household work and childcare that are never completed in daily life which results in boredom, stress and extreme physical and psychological exhaustion. Resilience is the ability to bounce back in overcoming difficulties and stress. Family well-being is the emotional and physical well-being in a family. This research will use quantitative methods. The three measuring instruments that will be included in the questionnaire of this research are Parental Burnout Assessment (PBA), Subjective Well-being For Mother (SWB-M) and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Questionnaires will be distributed personally to 347 full-time mothers who previously have worked at least six months and still have school-aged children. This research proves that resilience is a good mediator for full-ftime mom who is experiencing parental burnout to gain subjective well-being.

Abstract

Along with the evolution of time, individuals were required to learn quickly, especially in mastering new things. Therefore, it became the main reason reading is considered a fundamental skill that should be mastered from a young age. Several methods have been created to enhance reading fluency, including the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA). This research aims to determine the EGRA method's effectiveness on students' reading fluency. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a nonrandomized pretest-posttest control group design was employed. Thirty-seven fourth-grade elementary school students at SDN X Cikarang Regency participated. Eight (8) elements of EGRA were used as treatment materials, namely: (a) letter identification; (b) distinguishing initial sound; (c) nonword reading; (d) read aloud/oral reading; (e) reading comprehension; (f) listening comprehension; (g) Indonesian vocabulary; and (h) dictation. As for analyzing the data, the researcher employed Mann-Whitney U to compare the pretest and posttest scores of the control and experimental groups. The results showed that The EGRA method significantly improved reading fluency in fourth-grade elementary school students (p < 0.05). Thus, the EGRA method can help educators teach elementary school students to read more fluently.

Abstract

Abstract

The burden of tasks and responsibilities without adequate time management skills can lead to academic stress in students. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of time management training on academic stress. The research design is experimental with a pretest and posttest control group design. The subjects were students with high academic stress, measured by the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (ESSA). The study involved 61 subjects, 33 in the control group and 28 in the experimental group, randomly assigned. The experimental group received 8 training sessions, while the control group received 1 session. Time management training included goal setting, prioritization, daily scheduling, stopping procrastination, effective time use, and assertiveness. The Wilcoxon paired group data analysis showed a p-value < 0.001, indicating that the intervention effectively reduced students' academic stress. The implication is that time management training can be developed as an effort to reduce academic stress in students.

Abstract

The increase in the use of social media is an interesting phenomenon, especially for young adults. This phenomenon triggers various studies on the impact and motives of using social media. This research specifically aims to examine more deeply the phenomenon of Instagram use and the fear of loss (FoMO) in young adults. The study was conducted using a quantitative approach with an online survey method on 350 young adults (M = 20.51, SD = 1.96). The online survey consists of research information and consent forms to participate in the study; three research measuring tools (FoMO, Passive Instagram Use, and Instagram Motive); and participant demographic data. Information about this research is disseminated through Instagram Story uploads and by snowball. Statistical analysis was performed using JASP 0.14.1 (JASP Team, 2020) and IBM AMOS 21. The results of the analysis showed a good model fit and that motivation and passive use of Instagram were positively and significantly associated with FoMO with varying strengths. It was discovered that the motivation for using Instagram – dating, making new friends, academic, social connection, entertainment, self-expression, and information – did not play a significant role in FoMO, but the motivation for following and monitoring others and social recognition did. The sort of social media activity a person engages in is less essential than the type of content exposed on Instagram. Another research finding is that the relationship between motivation to use Instagram and FoMO is not mediated by passive use of Instagram.

Abstract

Magelang Regency region contains a plateau in the shape of a basin surrounded by mountains. The agroclimatic can generate enough agricultural products in sufficient quantity and quality to meet market demand. Horticultural agricultural activities in this area have the potential to improve food security and household income, considering technical, social, institutional, commercial, financial, and environmental issues. Horticultural growers were usually under pressure due to the drop in vegetable prices. The study examines the fight of independent horticultural farmers against adversity via the lens of community resilience. Community resilience includes community interests, institutional development, defense, and capacity building operations, as well as individual actions. The purpose of this study was to describe how resilient vegetable-growing communities are to food security concerns. Five villages in the Magelang Regency were affected: Klangon Hamlet in Sawangan District, Babadan Hamlet in Srumbung District, Wonolobo Hamlet, Krangean Hamlet, and Lodosewu Hamlet in Ngablak District. The thematic analysis approach was used to identify themes or characteristics related to the psychological and financial elements of vegetable producers. The resilience of the horticultural farming community in this area is built on trust in fellow farmers; there is hope for high prices to return; there is independence in weathering crop failures; and the local values of nrimo and gemi setiti are still practiced. The robustness of adaptive networks in the form of social capital, combined with excellent management of local capacities, increases the resilience of horticultural farming communities in this area. Keywords: community resilience, falling prices, local wisdom, vegetable farmers
