Abstract

This LPG gas-fueled metal heating furnace is designed to support heat treatment and metal smelting processes in small to medium-scale industries. With dimensions of 50 × 90 × 67 cm, this furnace is equipped with a 3600 RPM Sumura burner and blower to improve combustion efficiency and even heat distribution. The wall structure consists of SK32 firebrick, a fireproof blanket, caliboard, and an iron plate as outer protection. This layered insulation system aims to contain the heat in the combustion chamber so that it does not propagate out excessively. Tests showed that the combustion chamber temperature (T6) reached 1023°C in 60 minutes. The temperature decreases gradually from the inner to the outer layers: T5 (SK32 brick) 832°C, T4 (outer brick) 69°C, T3 (fiber blanket) 49°C, T2 (clapboard) 45°C, and T1 (iron plate) 43°C. The total heat transfer by conduction was recorded at 20.671 kW. These results show that the layered insulation design is effective in maintaining thermal efficiency and improving user safety. This furnace design has great potential to be applied in metal heat treatment activities by small industry players because it is energy efficient, easy to control, and economical. This research also opens up further development opportunities, such as the integration of an automatic control system and optimization of the shape of the combustion chamber.

Abstract

A1-Qur'an meletakkan garis-garis besar wujudsecara keseluruhan.

Abstract

The air tank is a crucial component in pneumatic car horn systems, serving to store compressed air to produce a loud and responsive sound. Most pressure vessel studies have focused on high-pressure applications in industry. At the same time, research on low-pressure tanks for automotive use remains limited, particularly those referring to ASME Section VIII Division 1 standards. This study designed a horizontal cylindrical air tank using the thin-walled cylinder approach with steel plates (yield strength 250 MPa, safety factor 4). The analysis showed a minimum wall thickness of 1.18 mm, while the actual thickness of 3 mm provides additional safety margins. The circumferential stress of 24.67 MPa and longitudinal stress of 12.34 MPa are well below the allowable stress of 62.5 MPa. These results confirm that the design is safe and efficient, contributing to the development of low-pressure pressure vessels for automotive applications.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mechanical and ballistic properties of abaca (Musa textilis) fiber–reinforced polyester (BQTN 157) composites as an alternative candidate material for bulletproof vest panels. Variations in fiber orientation (bias-woven fiber, straight-woven fiber, and straight fiber) and fiber mass fractions (10%, 20%, and 30%) were applied to evaluate their influence on tensile strength, impact toughness, and ballistic response. The tensile test results revealed that the straight fiber alignment at a 10% mass fraction exhibited the best tensile strength of 54.12 MPa, strain of 0.021 mm/mm, the toughness of 43.90 kJ/m2, and an elastic modulus of 2577 MPa. In the impact test, the same configuration achieved the maximum absorbed energy of 2.70 J. The ballistic testing with 9 mm FMJ projectiles (NIJ Level IIIA) demonstrated that all specimens with thicknesses of 15 mm and 20 mm experienced full penetration. The dominant failure mechanisms included delamination, fiber pull-out, matrix fracture, and shear plugging. These findings indicate that although abaca fiber composites possess good mechanical performance and sustainability advantages, further material engineering strategies—such as hybridization with synthetic fibers or the addition of ceramic/metallic layers—are required to enhance their ballistic resistance. Abaca–polyester composites require hybridization with synthetic fibers or additional protective layers to be viable for ballistic applications.

Abstract

Precise control of tube deformation during rotary draw bending is critical for automotive, structural, and piping applications to avoid rework and scrap. This study investigates the deformation behavior of circular (CHS) and square (SHS) tubes during rotary draw bending to provide practical guidelines for defect-free manufacturing. This study investigates the deformation behavior of circular hollow section (CHS) and square hollow section (SHS) tubes during rotary draw bending, focusing on springback, ovalization, and wrinkling phenomena. The experimental specimens consisted of ASTM A36 tubes: circular hollow sections (CHS) with an outer diameter of Ø25 mm and square hollow sections (SHS) with a nominal cross-section of 25 × 25 mm. Each geometry was tested at wall thicknesses of 0.7, 0.8, and 1.0 mm. The specimens were bent at angles of 30°, 60°, and 90° under controlled conditions. Experimental results reveal that CHS consistently exhibits lower springback (≈ 2.5–5.0°) and ovalization (≈ 7–14%) than SHS, which reached up to 7.0° springback and 16.6% ovalization. Wrinkling defects were observed exclusively in SHS, occurring in 100% of specimens at 90° with 0.7–0.8 mm wall thickness. ANOVA confirmed tube geometry as the dominant parameter (F = 764, p 0.001), followed by bending angle and wall thickness, with no significant interactions. Unlike prior studies analyzing CHS or SHS individually, this work provides a systematic comparison under identical conditions, bridging experimental validation with practical guidelines. The findings highlight the decisive role of cross-sectional geometry in tube bending mechanics and suggest minimum thickness thresholds and compensatory tooling strategies for defect-free manufacturing.

Abstract

In response to the growing demand for eco-friendly materials, natural fibers have gained increasing attention as renewable alternatives for automotive and structural materials. Despite extensive research, the mechanical performance of locally sourced bamboo species from Langsa, Aceh, including Gigantochloa apus (apus), Bambusa vulgaris (yellow), and Bambusa blumeana (thorn) remains largely unexplored. This study investigates the tensile and compressive properties of composites reinforced with these three bamboo species. The composites were fabricated using the hand lay-up method using BTQN 157 polyester resin and varying resin-to-fiber ratios of 60:40, 70:30, and 80:20. Mechanical tests were conducted in accordance with ASTM standards to evaluate the influence of bamboo species and fiber composition. Three specimens were tested for each composition, and the results were averaged to ensure data reliability. The results show that both bamboo type and resin fiber ratio significantly affect mechanical performance. The thorn bamboo composite at a 60:40 resin-to-fiber ratio exhibited the highest tensile strength of 81.94 MPa and compressive strength of 9.11 MPa. A 29.67% increase in tensile strength was achieved when varying the resin-to-fiber ratio from 80:20 to 60:40 for yellow bamboo, while a 28.93% improvement was observed across different species. Similarly, a 44.40% rise in compressive strength occurred for apus bamboo composites when the ratio changed from 80:20 to 60:40, and a 54.68% enhancement was recorded across species. These findings confirm that Langsa’s local bamboo, particularly B. blumeana at a 60:40 ratio, offers strong, lightweight, and sustainable reinforcement potential for next-generation composite materials.

Abstract

The Amil Zakat Institute (LAZ) is an institution licensed to assist the National Board of Zakat (Baznas) in collecting, distributing, and utilizing zakat. One of the main tasks of the LAZ is to distribute zakat to mustahiq in the Very Effective category. This study compares the effectiveness of zakat disbursement at the Amil Zakat institution. The effectiveness of the allocation-to-collection ratio (ACR) method was determined using Zakat core principles (ZCP). The objects used in this research are the financial statements of the National Zakat Institute, including LAZ IZI, LAZ Rumah Zakat, and LAZ Dewan Dakwah. Measurements were performed from 2015 to 2019. The results of the study found that the level of disbursement effectiveness from 2016 to 2019 was LAZ Dewan Dakwah (n=101% highly effective category), LAZ IZI (n=92% highly effective category) ), and LAZ Rumah Zakat (n=88% effective category). The implication is that the three LAZs have advantages in terms of their disbursement. Therefore, it is suggested to optimize the collection of zakat through LAZ. Therefore, the benefits of zakat are increasingly felt by mustahiq
