Abstract

This research aims to explore English students’ perceptions of the use of LMS (SYAM-OK) in Phonology courses as a facility to support their online learning process. The subjects of this research were 17 English students. Interviews were used as the main instruments in collecting data. The results of this research show that 17 students feel that they often use LMS (SYAM- OK) as a supporting tool in the online learning process in Phonology course. 17 English students thought that LMS (SYAM-O) was quite helpful in online learning, especially in filling in attendance, receiving learning materials, and collecting assignments. 17 English students have the same problem, namely connection problems when accessing the LMS (SYAM-OK), so they hoped for an LMS (SYAM-OK) in offline form only and features that they thought were important to add, such as voice notes and archives.

Abstract

This study investigates the acceptance and use of digital technology in English language teaching by teachers at SMA Negeri 2 Jeneponto. It focuses on their attitudes, the digital tools they implement, and the challenges they face. Using a qualitative research approach, data were collected through classroom observations and interviews with English teachers. The results show that most teachers hold a positive attitude toward the use of digital technology, recognizing its benefits in improving student engagement and enhancing learning outcomes. Teachers utilize various digital tools such as Smart TVs, LCD projectors, educational applications, and online platforms to create more interactive and flexible learning environments. However, despite this positive outlook, several obstacles hinder the effective integration of technology into the classroom. These challenges include limited access to reliable technical resources, insufficient institutional support, and varying levels of digital literacy among both teachers and students. To address these issues, the study suggests enhancing technological infrastructure, offering ongoing professional development programs, and establishing clear guidelines for the use of technology in teaching. These recommendations aim to support the successful adoption of digital tools in English instruction. Additionally, future studies are encouraged to examine the long-term effects of digital technology on students’ language proficiency and evaluate effective training models for teachers.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of using short stories on students’ reading comprehension. A quantitative method with a pre-experimental design was used, involving 30 eighth-grade students selected through random sampling. A reading test based on short stories was administered to assess five comprehension indicators: main idea, detailed information, inference, vocabulary, and reference. A pre-test was conducted to measure students’ initial abilities, followed by a treatment through short story-based instruction, and a post-test was conducted to measure improvement. The average pre-test score was 52.86, while the post-test average increased to 76.16. A paired sample t-test showed a significant difference (p = 0.000 < 0.05), indicating that the treatment had a positive effect. Among all indicators, the most notable improvement was in reference (from 46.67% to 90%), followed by vocabulary (from 55% to 84%). These results suggest that short stories effectively support the development of students’ reading comprehension, especially in helping them identify references and understand vocabulary in context. Overall, the use of short stories not only improved comprehension scores but also contributed to more consistent performance among students. Therefore, short stories can be considered a beneficial tool in teaching reading comprehension to eighth-grade students at SMPN 26 Makassar.

Abstract

This study was conducted to explore the creativity of English teachers in designing differentiated learning materials for senior high school students. The research was motivated by the fact that many teachers still rely on traditional methods, such as lectures, which are considered less effective in fostering students’ motivation and enthusiasm for learning. In reality, teachers are expected to be innovative in creating teaching materials that are engaging, aligned with students’ learning styles, and capable of improving their understanding of the subject matter. A descriptive qualitative method was employed in this research, utilizing interviews and documentation of teaching materials in the form of modules. The participants were two English teachers from SMAN 2 Makassar and SMAN 8 Makassar. The findings revealed that both teachers demonstrated creativity in designing differentiated learning materials by making use of Canva. Through this platform, they successfully addressed students’ varying levels of readiness and learning styles by producing visually appealing and interactive materials. In summary, the teachers involved in this study exhibited a high level of creativity in developing instructional materials. This was evident in their use of digital media during the preparation of content, as further supported by the documentation collected throughout the research.
