Abstract

This study is propose to reveal find out what kind of rebellion the main character did. The purpose of this study is to analyze rebellion based on inhumanity. And to analyze the rebellion in the novel The Hunger Games (2008). Data collection is by regularly reading novels and understanding the contents of the novel, then finding some existing data. The theory used to analyze the data uses a behavioristic approach theory. After analyzing the data, several reasons and goals of Katniss as the main character in the novel were found in participating in the game event.

Abstract

English as an international language is used in various fields of life. One of them is in agriculture. One of the important components in learning English is vocabulary mastery. Mastery of vocabulary is considered an important part of the process of learning a language or developing one's ability in a language. Proper learning is needed so that students are able to master vocabulary easily and correctly, especially UMN Al Washliyah students in this case mastering agricultural English vocabulary. One of the effective learning approaches is the contextual approach (CTL). CTL is a learning concept that helps teachers relate subjects to real situations. In this CTL there are seven important elements, namely inquiry, questioning, constructivist, modeling, learning community, authentic assessment, and reflection. The seven elements can be applied in the whole learning process. This research focuses on one element, namely the modeling component. This study used a single group pre-test and post-test experimental design method. There are two types of data analysis methods used in this study. The first is descriptive statistics (to analyze data based on frequency distribution: mean, median, mode, standard deviation, histogram, and polygon) and the second is inferential analysis including homogeneity and normality tests.

Abstract

This research is concentrated in the aspect of structure especially tenses. The existence of tenses in English is an obligatory in opposite there is no English without the use of tenses. Thus tense has a very significant function in English. With qualitative research, it can be found that several types of tenses are used in delivering sentences of English Friday Sermon. They are the most dominant tense is Simple Present Tense. Then the other tenses used in English Friday Sermon are Present Perfect Tense, Simple Future Tense and Simple Past Tense.

Abstract

Team based project short film-based is the implementation of the course english drama which is one of the courses in the English literature study program that studies English literary works. The aims of this study were; (1) to increase student creativity through learning models team based project based on short films, (2) knowing the effectiveness of learning models team based project on courses english drama. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative. Methods of data collection using observation, interviews and documents. The results of the research show the learning model team based project  effectively used in courses english drama and making short films that are uploaded on YouTube in accordance with the creativity of students who have been guided in the theoretical material sessions that have been given by the course lecturer. The stages of the project using team based project short film based is; (1) students discuss related to the theme of the short film according to the course, (2) write scripts, (3) students carry out project activities according to the timeline that has been prepared, (4) students edit films and upload them to social media youtube. The outputs targeted in this study are international journals, sinta 3 accredited journals and monograph books. Keywords:  Team Based Project; Short Film;  English Drama

Abstract

Artikel ini merupakan hasil pengabdian tim dosen dan mahasiswa Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al Washliyah dari prodi sastra Inggris dan prodi Akuntansi. Tujuan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk mencari solusi dalam upaya peningkatan potensi desa menuju desa wisata melalui penggunaan bahasa Inggris yang tepat untuk nama usaha di Desa Tanjung Rejo Kecamatan Percut Sei Tuan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan metode penyuluhan dan pelatihan menggunakan bahasa Inggris pada nama usaha. Manfaat penyuluhan ini memberikan pengetahuan kepada masyarakat setempat. Pemilihan lokasi pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini berdasarkan pertimbangan bahwa desa ini akan menuju desa wisata. Dalam membangun sebuah desa wisata tentu tidak terlepas dari globalisasi penggunaan bahasa yaitu bahasa Inggris yang menjadi tren pada saat namun tidak juga mengesampingkan penggunaan bahasa Indonesia pada ruang publik seperti penamaan sebuah usaha atau bisnis. Oleh sebab itu, pengetahuan mengenai penggunaan bahasa Inggris yang tepat perlu untuk disosialisasikan. Tahapan kegiatan yang dilaksanakan adalah survey lokasi, pengurusan perizinan, penyusunan materi dan pelatihan pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Melalui kegiatan ini diharapkan pengetahuan dan wawasan mayarakat Desa Tanjung Rejo dapat meningkat dan menguatkan potensi desa menuju desa wisata.

Abstract

Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kondisi sumberdaya dan kemampuan dalam bisnis di Ekowisata Batu Katak dengan menggunakan analisis Valueable, Rare, unImitability, Organize (VRIO). Penulisan paper ini menggunakan metode Kualitatif. Penelitian ini termasukpenelitian deskriptif. Berdasarkan keterlibatan peneliti adalah tidak mengintervensi data. Berdasarkan unit analisis sampel  yang digunakan adalah pihak yang mempelopori dibukanya ekowisata Batu Katak. Narasumber yang digunakan adalah narasumber yang berkompeten serta mengetahui kondisi Ekowisata Batu Katak dan mengerti konsep pariwisata. Temuan bahwa Kompetensi inti yang dimiliki oleh ekowisata batu katak  yang berasal dari sumberdaya tangible adalah   kondisi Alam, bunga bangkai yang unik (Amorphophallus titanum) yang tersebar di kebun masyarakat, bahan baku penyedia makanan yang diambil langsung dari kebun masyarakat,  atraksi wisata seperti trekking, tubing, susur gua juga merupakan kekuatan dalam pengembangan ekowisata. Adapun kompetensi lain yang berasail dari sumberdaya intangible dan berdaya saing dengan pesaingnya adalah kedekatan dengan pengunjung dan Berbatasan langsung dengan Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser, oleh UNESCO sebagai Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatera. Kompetensi di bidang kapabilitas yang dianggap kurang dan memerlukan perhatian khusus adalah skill pemasaran.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the types of participation exhibited by individuals engaged in a Muslim forum, specifically presenters, speakers/ustadz, and residents as participants of the forum. The primary objective of this study is to identify performance trends within the Muslim forum process through the application of an anthropolinguistic methodology. The observed patterns of involvement can be elucidated by examining the phenomena of speaking activity within the context of the Muslim forum process. The primary sources of data utilized in this study consist of video recordings, interviews, and observations. The present study employs a descriptive qualitative research design. The findings of this study demonstrate that the presenter's performance include the initiation, conclusion, and facilitation of the event. The primary function of the speaker is to provide a lecture and provide guidance. The performance of the inhabitants includes the act of posing inquiries, providing answers, and reacting to both questions and jokes presented by the speaker. The Muslim forum primarily facilitates a lecture-based form of participation, characterized by limited interaction between participants throughout the lecture sessions.

Abstract

The objectives of the study were 1) to describe the form of moral values found in selected poems by Maya Angelou, and 2) to describe how the disclosure of moral values in selected poems by Maya Angelou.  In this case, the research used a descriptive qualitative method to classify and analyze the data. This collection of poems is interesting to research because it contains many moral values and very inspiring messages about life, humanity and justice in the poem. The approach used in this research is a pragmatic approach. Based on the results of the analysis, the researcher found three most dominant moral values : Moral Courage, Be Yourself, and Honesty. After finding the moral values in each stanza of the poem, the poem was analyzed to obtain the meaning contained in each stanza.

Abstract

The current research juxtaposes the two assumptions regarding the black cat, which arose in America and Indonesia, and ties them to the short story by Edgar Allan Poe titled "The Black Cat." The objective of the current research is to pinpoint the myth or meaning pertaining to black cats in each nation. A qualitative method will be employed in this inquiry. Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Black Cat" hires a myth or meaning that arose in the Americas, wherein black cats are thought to be witches.

Abstract

The novel The Namesake by JhumpaLahiri tells the story of Gogol Ganguli, an American-Indian man who was born in Calcutta, India, and raised in the United States. The novel explores themes of identity, culture, and family. In this novel, American and Indian cultures are depicted in contrast. American culture is characterized by individualism, freedom, and pragmatism. Meanwhile, Indian culture is characterized by collectivism, tradition and spirituality. The aim of the comparative cultural analysis in this novel is to explore and unravel the complex cultural interactions depicted in the narrative. Through this analysis, the researcher aims to uncover the complexities and nuances of the journey of the protagonist, Gogol Ganguli, as he adapts between his Indian heritage and the American lifestyle.
