Abstract

The learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN 060788 Medan Maimun in the IPAS subject are still relatively low, especially on the topic of the digestive system, which is abstract and difficult to understand. Therefore, this study was conducted to improve student learning outcomes through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model supported by animated video media. This research applied a classroom action research (CAR) approach using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, carried out in two cycles. The subjects of the study were 17 fifth-grade students. The instruments used included learning outcome tests, teacher and student activity observation sheets, and documentation. Learning outcome data were analyzed quantitatively by calculating the average scores and the percentage of mastery, while observation data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods. The results of this study showed an increase in students’ average scores from 59.12 in the pre-cycle to 70.00 in cycle I, and further to 78.82 in cycle II. The percentage of students who achieved mastery also rose from 29.41% to 76.47%. Abstract

This community service program is a collaboration between Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) that explores the cultural and linguistic meanings of traditional cuisines in Medan and Penang. The objective of this community engagement initiative is to preserve culinary heritage through documentation, analysis and comparison of culinary terms, historical roots, and symbolic meaning amidst the challenges of globalization. Using a mixed-method approach-combining field etnography, computational linguistics (AI-based lexical mapping), and semiotic analysis, the team collected data from oral histories, ancient recipes, and digital etnography. The results highlight regional variations related to migration and colonial influences, as well as the documentation of terms such as rendang (Minang) and nasi kandar (Malay-Indian) enriched with etymologies and cultural narratives.
