Abstract

Poor mathematical communication skills and motivation are influenced by several factors, such as the use of learning models used by teachers in learning. The use of appropriate learning models can improve students’ mathematical communication skills and motivation. This study aimed to determine the effect of the discussion learning model using Google Classroom and Google Form on students' mathematical communication in terms of students’ learning motivation. This type of research is quasi-experimental. Data were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance with unequal cells. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the discussion learning model using Google Classroom provided better communication skills than the learning model using Google Form, (2) there was no difference in the effect of learning motivation on students' mathematical communication, and (3) there was no interaction between learning model and learning motivation towards students' mathematical communication skills. Further research is needed to develop learning models using Google Classroom and Google Form by taking into account the characteristics of other students that are adjusted to the school curriculum.

Abstract

This article aims to find out how the ability to understand concepts and solve mathematical problems of junior high school students in Bandar Lampung after being treated using Multy Reprecentacy Discourse learning (DMR) assisted by dragonbox games for one semester of learning. Data analysis was based on an assessment of 64 students (experimental class n = 32 and control class n = 32) using the One-way Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) analysis technique. The results showed that significantly learning during the Covid-19 pandemic using the DMR model assisted by mathematics games had a better effect on students' understanding of concepts and solving mathematical problems partially or simultaneously.

Abstract

Analytical thinking is a skill to unite the initial process, plan solutions, produce solutions, and conclude something to produce conclusions or correct answers. This research aims to 1) determine whether there are differences in students' mathematical, analytical thinking skills between classes that use the Open-ended learning method and classes that use the lecturing method, 2) to find out whether there are mathematical, analytical thinking skills differences between students with high, moderate, and low self-awareness criteria, and 3) to find out whether there is an interaction between Open-ended learning method and self-awareness toward students' mathematical-analytical thinking skills. This research employs a quasi-experimental design. Based on the data and data analysis, this research is mixed-method research, and the design used in this research is the posttest control group design. This research was conducted on students who have studied the Real Analysis Courses. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, it was found out that, first, there are differences in students' mathematical-analytical thinking skills between the class that uses the Open-ended learning method and the class that uses the lecturing method. Second, there are mathematical-analytical thinking skills differences between high, moderate, and low self-awareness criteria. Third, there is no interaction between the Open-ended learning method with self-awareness of students' mathematical-analytical thinking skills.

Abstract

Prospective mathematics teachers experience errors in solving straight-line equations, such as using unorthodox methods, answers that conflict with concepts and wrong calculations. This study aimed to analyze the difficulties of prospective mathematics teachers in algebraic material about straight-line equations. This research is descriptive qualitative research with a case study approach. The subjects in this study were students of the 3rd semester of the Mathematics Education Study Program, Widya Dharma University, Klaten, who had taken field analytic geometry courses. The data collection method in this study used the test method and the interview method. This study uses triangulation techniques to obtain valid data. The triangulation technique used is a triangulation method that compares data or information using different methods. The research instrument includes the main instrument, namely the researcher, whose role is to collect research data and auxiliary instruments in tests and interview guidelines. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using the analysis model of Miles, Huberman and Saldana, which includes data condensation, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this study are that prospective mathematics teacher have difficulty in: (1) identifying which equations are straight lines and which ones are not, (2) explaining the concept of gradient, (3) proving the statement that two parallel lines have the same gradient, (4) prove the statement that two lines are perpendicular if the two gradients are multiplied the result is -1, (5) prove the formula for the equation of a straight line with a known gradient and a point through which it passes, and (6) prove the equation for a straight line if two are known the point through which. This study concludes that prospective mathematics teachers have difficulty in the material of straight-line equations.

Abstract

Learning mathematics that can improve elementary school students' critical thinking skills is rarely done. Therefore, students' mathematical necessary thinking skills still need to improve. The realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model is expected to enhance mathematical critical thinking skills because of providing contextual problems to students. This study aims to determine the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model on students' critical thinking skills in mathematics. This research uses quasi-experimental research. The population in this study were students of class VI SDN 1 Kalikoa, Cirebon Regency. The sample selection in this study was carried out using a cluster random sampling technique to determine the experimental and control classes. In this case, two classes were selected: class VI A as the practical class and class VI B as the control class. The instrument for collecting data tests mathematical critical thinking skills on integer material. The results showed that the RME learning model is more effective than the direct learning model on students' critical thinking skills in mathematics. This is because the value of , and   at a significance level of 5% and DK of 40, which means , so H0 was rejected, and H1 was accepted. The results of this study can be used as input for teachers and prospective teachers to improve themselves concerning the teaching that has been done and the student's critical thinking skills that have been achieved by paying attention to the right learning model to improve students' critical thinking skills in mathematics.

Abstract

Purpose:This study investigates the impact of the Connected Mathematics Project (CMP) model on eighth-grade students’ ability to form mathematical connections at SMP Negeri 1 Martapura. It also examines how varying levels of self-efficacy relate to these connection skills and whether an interaction exists between instructional model (CMP vs. discovery learning) and self-efficacy in influencing outcomes. Method:A quasi-experimental, posttest-only control-group design was used. Two groups of eighth graders were assigned: one received CMP-based instruction and the other discovery-learning lessons. After the intervention, all students completed a standardized connection-skills posttest and a validated self-efficacy questionnaire. Participants were categorized into high- and low-efficacy subgroups. Two-way ANOVA assessed the main effects of instructional model and self-efficacy, as well as their interaction. Findings:Students taught via the CMP model scored significantly higher on mathematical connection tasks than those in the discovery-learning group. Independently, students with high self-efficacy outperformed those with lower self-efficacy. No significant interaction effect was detected, indicating CMP’s benefit across confidence levels. Significance:Findings demonstrate that CMP is a robust approach for enhancing mathematical connection skills regardless of student self-efficacy. They underscore the value of building learner confidence alongside innovative pedagogy and support broader adoption of CMP to strengthen real-world mathematical understanding.

Abstract

Many students in Indonesia continue to experience difficulties in mathematical problem-solving due to the persistent dominance of conventional teaching approaches that limit student engagement and creativity. This study examines the effectiveness of the Search, Solve, Create, and Share (SSCS) learning model integrated with GeoEnzo in improving students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities. A quasi-experimental design with a posttest-only control group was employed. Seventh-grade students from SMPN Terpadu Gunung Pelindung, East Lampung, Indonesia, were selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using a validated mathematical problem-solving test and analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Scheffe’s multiple comparison test to identify differences in performance among the four instructional approaches. The SSCS model integrated with GeoEnzo yielded the highest mean score (88.31), followed by the SSCS model without GeoEnzo (83.56), the conventional model with GeoEnzo (83.03), and the traditional model without technological support (77.08). ANOVA results indicated statistically significant differences (Sig. = 0.000) among the groups. The findings confirm that integrating SSCS with GeoEnzo effectively enhances students’ mathematical problem-solving skills. This research has implications for encouraging educators and curriculum developers to adopt a student-centered, technology-based learning approach to enhance higher-order thinking skills.
