Abstract

Maritime safety demands innovative solutions amid rising engine room accidents from non-compliance with personal protective equipment like safety helmets, contributing 15-20% of global incidents. This study aimed to design and build an Arduino Pro Micro-based helmet detection system using micro switches and buzzers for real-time alerts in harsh ship environments. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) approach with ADDIE model, the prototype was tested on 10 engine crew (ABK) aboard KMP JAMBO IX via purposive sampling. Instruments included Arduino IDE for programming, serial monitors for data logging, and SPSS 26 for t-test analysis (p<0.05). Results showed 100% micro switch accuracy, 15-second buzzer response, and 7-hour battery life across four tests, reducing SOP violations from observed pre-implementation lapses. In conclusion, the system enhances crew discipline and supervision efficiency, bridging gaps in affordable maritime IoT safety tools, with potential to cut head injuries by 20-30%.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the productivity of Semarang Container Terminal dock operations through the performance of automatic rubber tyred gantry (ARTG). The research approach used is descriptive quantitative with data collection methods through direct observation, interviews, and documentation. A total of seven samples were obtained from the documentation in the form of ARTG performance reports and dock operation productivity. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and trend tables to determine the performance of ARTG and the productivity of container terminal dock operations. In addition, using the Spearman-rho Rank Correlation Test (ρ) to determine the relationship between ARTG performance and container terminal dock operation productivity based on the company's monthly data. The results of the study showed fluctuations in ARTG performance and dock operation productivity with an average ARTG performance through the availability indicator of 98.21% and an average value of dock operation productivity through the Box Ship per Hour (BSH) indicator of 43.34 bph, as well as a significant and very strong relationship between ARTG performance and dock operation productivity with a significance value of 0.012 < (0.05) with a correlation coefficient value of 0.865. In addition, the results of observations and interviews also show a relationship between ARTG performance and the productivity of container terminal dock operations, as well as other supporting report data which are factors in the relationship between ARTG performance and dock operation productivity.

Abstract

The maritime sector faces rising ship accidents, with 3,310 cases in 2024, highlighting risks in engine rooms. This study aims to analyze the relationship between occupational safety and health management (K3) implementation and work productivity in the engine room of KM. Dharma Kartika IX. Using a quantitative correlational cross-sectional design, data were collected via Likert-scale questionnaires from 30 purposive-sampled engine room workers during 12 months in 2026. Instruments were validated (Pearson, r_table=0.306) and reliable (Cronbach Alpha >0.60), analyzed with simple linear regression via SPSS 26, including prerequisite tests (normality, linearity). Results show a significant positive influence (t=4.305 >1.701, sig=0.001, R=0.780, R²=0.608; Y=22.892+0.253X), with high variable descriptions. In conclusion, enhanced K3 boosts productivity by 60.8%, recommending training and SOP enforcement

Abstract

Injectors play a crucial role in optimal combustion of marine diesel generator engines, but their performance degradation often causes exhaust gas temperature fluctuations that reduce efficiency and operational reliability. This study aims to analyze the effect of injector performance on exhaust gas temperature on the SV. STELLA 28 vessel. Using a causal descriptive quantitative approach, the population is operational data of Auxiliary Engine 1 and 2 for 12 months, with a purposive sample of 70 observations. Instruments include injector maximum pressure (PMAX) measurements and exhaust gas temperature thermocouples, analyzed through the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, simple linear regression, and SPSS. The results show a significant effect (Sig. 0.000) with R² 0.417 and the equation . The conclusion states that optimal injector performance stabilizes exhaust gas temperature, supporting condition-based maintenance.

Abstract

Abstract

Boilers experience frequent problems, such as scale formation, unstable steam pressure, incomplete combustion, and difficulty starting. Therefore, this study uses a quantitative method with the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) approach, which aims to determine maintenance and prevention to minimize these problems. This method determines the failure priority obtained from the Risk Priority Number (RPN) calculation based on assessment factors such as severity, frequency of occurrence, and the likelihood of failure being detected in each component. The results of these calculations indicate that the steam drum component falls into the highest category, with an RPN of 32. The other 12 components fall into the medium category: the feed water pump, electrode, photocell, nozzle, blower fan, solenoid valve, fuel pump, blowdown valve, main steam valve, scum valve, non-return valve, and gauge glass, with RPN values ranging from 12 to 24. Furthermore, the components in lowest category include the fuel filter, safety valve, and manometer, with RPN values ranging from 8 to 10. Therefore, the recommended improvements based on the FMEA results can be used as evaluation material to ensure the effectiveness of the improvements. Furthermore, regular boiler maintenance and monitoring are required, especially for components such as the steam drum, which requires additional routine maintenance schedules, repeated evaluations related to water treatment, and determining appropriate repairs for any steam drum failures.
