Abstract

Stunting is a condition where linear growth is disturbed so that the body height is not normal, also known as being short or dwarf in comparison to the standard age. This matter is caused by nutrition and health in the poor pre- and post-natal period. An educated and knowledgeable mother has a significant role in overcoming, managing, and organizing family resources to meet nutritional needs. The study was directed at analyzing factors that increase the risk of mothers giving birth to stunted toddlers in work areas at the Public Health Center Namorambe. The study uses a descriptive-analytical approach using a cross-sectional model, where data collection is conducted in a single instance.Thirty mothers were studied as study subjects with toddlers ages 0–60 months with stunting conditions and living in the work area of the Public Health Center Namorambe. The study results show that the possibility of mothers giving birth to stunted toddlers is affected by their knowledge, attitudes, and actions.

Abstract

Sustained-release dosage forms were critical in drug delivery, ensuring controlled and prolonged release for optimal therapeutic outcomes. Chitosan (CH) has become pivotal in sustained-release tablet formulation due to its biocompatibility and mucoadhesive properties. This study aims to explore the release kinetics of furosemide (FS) from CH matrix tablets in a concurrent medium. The formulation involves a core tablet and coated tablet, with CH matrix as a binder and Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose Phthalate (HPMCP) as a film-coated for the core tablet, and both are made using the wet granulation method. Assessment parameters include tablet hardness, disintegration, and FS release profiles across various media, analyzed using spectrophotometric methods to comprehend drug release kinetics with multiple models such as zero-order, first-order, Higuchi, and Korsmeyer-Peppas employed. In the press-coated tablet comprising core tablet CH as matrix uncoated with 20 mg CH per tablet core, a zero-order release pattern emerged in the pH 1.2 medium within 0-2 h, which displayed first-order release kinetics within 2-6 h and 6-16 h in concurrent media of pH 5.8 and 7.4. Notably, a zero-order release pattern emerged in the pH 1.2 medium within 0-2 h. Press-coated tablets incorporating CH matrix with HPCMP coated (CH-HPCMP), also containing 20 mg CH per tablet, exhibited diverse drug release kinetics. These tablets showed Korsmeyer-Peppas, zero-order, and first-order kinetics in pH 1.2, 5.8, and 7.4, respectively. The study suggests that a Press-coated tablet incorporating CH-HPMCP is suitable as the candidate for sustained-release formulations. The observed versatility in release kinetics across varying pH environments underscores the potential adaptability of these formulations in addressing diverse therapeutic needs.

Abstract

Paracetamol is a drug that is analgesic and antipyretic, which is produced as a generic or branded drug. The research objective was to determine the quality based on paracetamol levels in generic and branded tablet preparations circulating in Medan. The research used HPLC Alliance e2696 UV / Visible Detector 2489, Column µ Bondapak TMC-18: 10 µm 125A 3.9x300 mm, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer Agilent 8453. The method used was a routine assay method for paracetamol PT. Kimia Farma. The results showed that the paracetamol content in the tablet dosage was 97.05% - 106.04%, according to the Indonesian Pharmacopoeia Edition V, not less than 90% and not more than 110%.

Abstract

Behavior originates from the impulse in humans which is an effort to meet human needs. Eating behavior that is often a problem is eating habits in canteens or stalls around school and eating fast food habits. The role of snacks in contributing energy or energy and protein substances is very significant, considering that school children get less protein intake and often snack, it is better if the snacks sold in the school canteen are high protein foods.This study aims to determine the factors associated with habitual snacking behavior. This was a non-experimental study through survey and observational approaches with a cross sectional sample of 96students. Data collection includes eating habits, nutritional knowledge, breakfast habits, breakfast frequency, food carrying habits, pocket money, and types of food obtained through questionnaires. The data analyzedusing Chi Square test.There area relationship between nutritional knowledge, breakfast habits, carrying food, pocket money, and types of snacks with the snack habits of Al-Khairiyah Elementary School children, Sunggal District, Deli Serdang Regency. All factors are related to eating habits

Abstract

Mosquitoes are one of those insects with an often annoying presence. Saponins, polyphenols, and essential oils are found in the Kenikir plant (Cosmos caudatus). Experimental research was conducted with tests covering: organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, and effectiveness. Organoleptic lotions at concentrations of 5%, 10% and 15% have a dark green colour with a distinctive odour of Kenikir. Lotions with a concentration of 5% are homogeneous, while at concentrations of 10% and 15% are not homogeneous. Organolepticrequirements and homogeneity as lotions are met. The results obtained showed that the Kenikir leaf extract was effective at repelling mosquitoes.

Abstract

Red Ginger (Zingiber officinalevar. Rubrum) and Cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmannii) contain alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, triterpenoids and essential oils. which is antibacterial that causes pharyngitis by Staphylococcus aureus. This study aims to determine the antibacterial potency of the combination of Red Ginger (Zingiberofficinalevar. Rubrum) and Cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmannii) extract against Staphylococcus aureus. Experimental research includes the extraction of the compound components in red ginger and cinnamon by maceration with 70% ethanol. Inhibition was tested bydiffusion method. Combination of concentration of Red Ginger and Cinnamon extracts of 5%:40%; 10%:30%; 20%:20%; 30%:10% and 40%:5%. The combination of red ginger and cinnamon extract has antibacterial activity against pharyngitis-causing bacteria, namely Staphylococcus aureuswith a strong response at a concentration of 5%:40%

Abstract

Calcium minerals play an important role in maintaining body functions, while Lead is a dangerous heavy metal. The research was aimed at determining the levels of Calcium and Lead from several refill water depots in Medan. Calcium complexometry and lead AAS as their respective assay methods. Research shows calcium levels are 10.3-29.3 mg/L, correlation coefficient is 0.9928, and no lead is found in refill drinking water. Calcium levels do not meet the requirements, while lead levels still meet the WHO requirements.

Abstract

Eyebrow cream (EC) is one of the decorative cosmetics applied to the eyebrows using a brush for the purpose of giving color and emphasizing the shape of the eyebrows. EC is one of the practical preparations to fill in empty eyebrow hairs. The research was conducted of formulating activated charcoal into EC. The research method includes the formulation and evaluation of EC results from coconut shell activated charcoal at concentrations of activated charcoal 1%, 3%, 5% and 7%. Evaluation includes: organoleptic, homogeneity, irritation and pH of Eyebrow Cream. The organoleptic showed that the color of the preparation at a concentration of 1% -7% was black to dark black, with a cocoa oleum aroma, and a semi-solid texture. The pH of the preparation is 4.5-6.5 with good homogeneity. The preparation did not show irritation to the skin of volunteers. The study provide information that activated charcoal can be formulated into EC preparations. Coconut shell activated charcoal can be formulated in the form of eyebrow cream. The preparation of eyebrow cream does not cause irritation and is safe.

Abstract

Indonesia's natural wealth that is efficacious in suppressing cholesterol, hypertension, diarrhea, gastritis and blood sugar is one of the bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum Wight.). Tablets are preparations that are practical to use, easy to produce, pack, and distribute. The research was directed to make tablets of bay leaf ethanol extract (EEDS) by direct compression. EEDS tablets were made into four formulas with various fillers of lactose and Avicel PH 102, each 200 mg : 135 mg A); 250 mg : 105 mg (B); 300 mg : 55 mg (C); and 350 mg : 5 mg (D). The study showed that all formulas met the preformulation test requirements and tablet evaluation, D as the best formula. EEDS is made into tablets by direct compression.

Abstract

Effervescent tablets, CO2-producing tablets from the reaction of tablet constituents with their solvents. Red guava contains beta-carotene vitamin C is quite high, white guava is rich in vitamins, flavonoids, carotenoids, saponins, tannins, phenols, triterpenes, essential oils, fiber, and fatty acids. The study aimed at the comparison of vitamin C extract of red and white guava seeds (Psidium guavala. L). Powder evaluation includes flow time, angle of repose, compactibility. The evaluation of tablets included organoleptic, soluble time, weight uniformity, hardness, friability, pH, vitamin C content using UV spectrophotometry method. The results showed that the flow time test was 11.31-16 gram/second, the angle of repose was 33.02-34.92%; compactibility 7.59-16.9%; effervescent tablet preparation is round in shape, brown aroma, dark brown-brown color, slightly sweet taste, dissolving time 33.79- 89.53 seconds; hardness 4-5,4 kg; friability 0.04-0.9%; pH is close to neutral at pH 5.83-6.39; vitamin C content of red and white guava seeds were 37.86 mg/g and 42.32 mg/g, respectively. Red and white guava seed extract can be formulated into effervescent tablets and has vitamin C 0.19 – 0.28 mg/g
