Abstract

Fruit syrup is made from a sugar solution, the taste and aroma are determined by the freshness of the fruit. Fruit commonly used in making syrup has an attractive color, aroma and distinctive taste. Passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims.) has a distinctive taste and aroma, so it is widely processed into syrup. This study was to evaluate CMC and Agar-Agar stabilizers in the passion fruit syrup formula. Evaluation includes color, appearance, texture, taste and aroma and hedonic tests are carried out. The results showed that there were significant differences in the color, appearance, texture, taste and aroma of passion fruit syrup. Stabilizers CMC and Agar-Agar make the color, texture and appearance of the syrup better and more attractive. The result of hedonic test for ideal syrup concentration is S3 with 4 g of Agar and 6 g of CMC. The higher the concentration of CMC and Agar, the greater the viscosity of the syrup. The concentration of CMC and Agar-agar in a mixture of fruit juices gave significantly different effects on color, texture, appearance, taste and aroma

Abstract

The plant of findings turmeric (Curcuma longa) are often used as a traditional medicinal. The part of the turmeric plant that is often used is the rhizome. In addition to turmeric rhizome, turmeric leaves are also used as a flavoring dish. Among the benefits of turmeric leaves is as an antimicrobial. Soap is a surfactant used for washing and cleaning. Antiseptics are inhibitors for the growth and development of microorganisms that live on the surface of the body. The study was to determine which ethanol extract of turmeric leaves could be formulated into antiseptic solid soap preparations. This study used an experimental method, turmeric leaves were extracted with 70% ethanol. The formula made are 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%. The quality of the soap preparation was carried out by organoleptic tests, acidity, high foam and irritation. The results test showed that the solid soap did not have the aroma of turmeric leaves, the pH of the soap was 9.9-10.5; foam height with a concentration of 7.5% which is 7.3 cm; and solid soap preparations ethanol extract of turmeric leaves did not cause irritation. The extract of turmeric leaves can be formulated into solid soap preparations. It is recommended to add perfume to the formulation of solid soap preparations of turmeric leaf extract as an antiseptic.

Abstract

Maceration of Celery leaves using 96% ethanol solvent was used to make the extract. Toothpaste is formulated with carboxymethylcellulose and alginate binders. The active ingredient in the form of ethanol extract from Celery leaves has the potential for antibacterial. This study was to evaluate the concentration of carboxymethylcellulose alginate in the preparation of antiseptic toothpaste of ethanol extract from Celery leaves. Evaluation of production results consisted of organoleptic, homogeneity, spreadability, foam formation, acidity and viscosity. The higher the concentration of carboxymethylcellulose, the lower the foam and spreadability and the higher the viscosity, while the alginate concentration is the opposite. Carboxymethylcellulose alginate affects the evaluation parameters of antiseptic toothpaste preparations ethanol extract of Celery leaves

Abstract

Diarrhea is characterized by the excretion of liquid stools with a frequency of three or more times a day, due to gastrointestinal infections due to food and water contaminated with microorganisms, or directly from humans due to poor sanitation. This study was to determine the characteristics of diarrhea patients, treatment and cost-effectiveness of treatment at Putri Hijau Hospital, Medan. The non-experimental research is descriptive and retrospective in nature of financial patient medical records from July to December 2018. Cost Effectiveness Analysis as a method of cost analysis. The characteristics of the patients obtained were 14 women (46.670%) and 16 men (53.33%). The effectiveness of New Diatabs (92.30%) and New Diatabs Metronidazole (94.11%). The cost of therapy with New Diatabs is Rp. 1,547,771/patient and New Diatabs Metronidazole is Rp. 1,562,590/patient. Average cost-effectiveness New Diatabs Rp. 190,345 and New Diatabs Metronidazole Rp. 183,060, so it is concluded that the cost-effective therapy is the use of the combination of New Diatabs Metronidazole compared to New Diatabs.

Abstract

Antibacterial interferes with growth and development and even kills by interfering with microbial metabolism. The peel of Mangifera indica L.var. arum manis contains antibacterial flavonoids. Research for the detection of antibacterial activity of mango peel extract of arum manis varieties in ethanol on E. coli and S. typhi. The well diffusion method was used with concentrations of 20.0%, 30.0% and 40.0%; chloramphenicol as a positive control. The diameter of the inhibition zone as an indicator of E. coli activity was 12.83 mm; 12.93 mm; and 13.91 mm, against S. typhi 11.60 mm; 12.52 mm; and 13.40 mm at these concentrations, respectively. Ethanol extract of Mangifera indica L. var. arum manis has antibacterial activity of E. coli and S. typhi with strong inhibitory power, and without differences in concentration

Abstract

Introduction: Ranitidine HCl tablets are widely available in the market. Ensuring the proper levels of active ingredients is crucial for ensuring the quality of medications. Objective: To find a reliable method for measuring the levels of Ranitidine HCl tablets in acidic solvents that meet validation standards, and to explore valid methods using ultraviolet spectrophotometry in acidic solvents. Methods: UV spectrophotometry with a UV detector at maximum wavelength was used. Two solvents were employed: 0.10 N HCl and 0.15 N HCl. Method validation included tests for linearity, accuracy, repeatability, precision, and selectivity. Results: The maximum wavelengths detected for each solvent were 225 nm and 226 nm, respectively. Validation results indicate excellent linearity, accuracy, and precision within the ranges of 0.9984 - 0.9998; 99.6% - 100.7%; 0.427% - 0.861%; 0.518% - 0.952%. The selectivity test yielded positive outcomes. The average Ranitidine HCl tablet levels were 98.2% for PT. Hexpharm Jaya and 98.4% for PT. Mutifa Medan, meeting the standards of the Indonesian Pharmacopoeia Edition VI. Conclusion: The method using a 0.10 N solvent for determining Ranitidine HCl tablet levels meets validation requirements and is suitable for practical application.

Abstract

Background: Milk serves as a crucial source of human nutrition, particularly for infants who rely on it before they can digest solid foods. The mammary glands of female mammals produce it and is typically characterized by its pure white appearance. Objective: This study aimed to assess the levels of mesophilic aerobic bacteria and yeast mould present in fresh cow's milk obtained from farms in Limau Manis Tanjung Morawa. Methods: The investigation into contamination levels employed the Total Plate Count (TPC) method for aerobic bacteria and the Yeast Mold Count (YMC) method, both of which are based on the guidelines outlined in the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) No. 3141.1 of 2011. Results: Findings revealed that the levels of aerobic mesophilic bacteria, as determined by the TPC method, met the stipulated requirements of SNI No. 3141.1 of 2011 across all five farms surveyed. However, the research utilizing the YMC method indicated that the yeast mould counts in the milk from all five farms did not meet the established criteria. Conclusion: The analysis of microbial contamination using the TPC and YMC methods demonstrated compliance and non-compliance, respectively, with the standards outlined in SNI No. 3141.1 of 2011.

Abstract

Background: Jamu, a traditional health service deeply ingrained in Indonesian culture, has been utilized for generations. Among the herbal remedies sought after by the public, herbal medicine aimed at enhancing appetite stands out. Unfortunately, the robust demand for these products is often exploited by manufacturers who incorporate pharmaceutical additives. Dexamethasone, a synthetic glucocorticoid renowned for its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant attributes, is frequently amalgamated with herbs to stimulate appetite. Its inclusion is prompted by its known side effect of moon face and its potential to enhance appetite with prolonged use. Objective: This research endeavors to ascertain the presence of dexamethasone in the herbal appetite stimulants available in the market within Lubuk Pakam District, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. Method: Qualitative analysis of dexamethasone was conducted utilizing Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) spectrophotometry. Results: The investigation revealed that several samples of appetite-enhancing herbal medicine suspected to contain dexamethasone indeed exhibited spectra akin to the standard comparison of dexamethasone. Conclusion: Among the ten samples of herbal appetite stimulants scrutinized, eight were found to contain dexamethasone, as evidenced by the congruence of their spectra and functional groups with the comparison standard for dexamethasone.

Abstract

Introduction: Galactomannan is found in the endosperm of seeds in the Fabaceae family, for example durian seeds (Durio zibethinus L). Galactomannan is a natural polysaccharide as an additional ingredient. Objective: The research aims to determine the Galactomannan content in Durian seeds isolated by chromatography and to determine the Galactomannan content in Durian seeds using the Luff Schoorl method. Methods: The research was carried out by extracting galactomannan from Durian seeds using distilled water by heating them for 5 minutes. Purification was carried out using paper chromatography with various variations of mobile phases, namely BEW (Butanol: Ethanol: Water), BAW (Butanol: Acetic acid: Water), Glacial acetic acid 10%, Glacial acetic acid 50%, HCl 10%, HCl 20% and Thin layer chromatography with the mobile phase n-Hexane: Ethylacetate at varying ratios of 3:7 and 7:3. Purity testing is carried out using the Luff Scroorl method. Results: Extraction of 500 g of durian seeds produces 1,8% Galactomannan. The levels before and after inversion using the Luff Schoorl method were respectively 8.0131 and 7.0679 mg/mg. Conclusion: Galactomannan can be obtained from extracting durian seeds and its inverse using the Luff Scroorl method.

Abstract

Background: Calcium, potassium and iron can be obtained from milk, nuts, eggs, fish, fruit vegetables, green vegetables and products needed by the human body which play a role in maintaining body functions, including cells, tissues, organs and overall function. Objective: Research to determine the levels of these minerals in almond milk using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). Method: Almonds were soaked for 4, 8, and 12 hours respectively for almond milk 1, 2, and 3 (SA1, SA2, and SA3) and Almendrola packaged milk (SA4). Samples were wet digested with concentrated HNO3. Analysis of calcium, potassium and iron levels using AAS with an air-acetylene flame was 422.7; 766.5; and 248.3 nm for calcium, potassium and iron respectively. Validated methods include accuracy, precision, LOD and LOQ. Results: Results of determining the mineral content of almond milk (mg/100g) for calcium, potassium and iron respectively (2.6551 ± 0.0925; 5.5464 ± 0.3178; 5.8866 ± 0.03805; and 4.5842 ± 0.2590), (2.4096 ± 0.0551; 2.5150 ± 0.0115; 2.6551 ± 0.0557; and 2.5150 ± 0.0551), and (0.3202 ± 0.0282; 0.3307 ± 0.0048; 0.3344 ± 0.011; and 0.3183 ± 0.0045). Conclusion: Validation of the method meets the requirements, soaking impacts increasing mineral levels in Almond Milk, and there are significant differences in calcium, potassium and iron levels in the milk.
