Abstract

Numerous studies have indicated that digital games offer a valuable learning experience for young language learners by fostering self-efficacy in English acquisition. Despite this, there remains a dearth of research investigating the impact of digital games on children's self-efficacy and reading achievements. The current study aims to fill this gap by examining (1) the impact of digital games on children's self-efficacy and (2) the effect of digital games on children's reading achievements. An exploratory sequential design was employed, integrating both quantitative and qualitative methods. The study involved 144 young learners in Indonesia who participated in eight treatment sessions using digital games as a learning tool. After these sessions, participants completed a post-test comprising 20 reading items to assess their reading achievements. Observations during the treatment sessions explored the implementation of digital games and their impact on self-efficacy, supplemented by interviews with 15 children to gain deeper insights into their experiences and perceptions. The findings revealed that digital games foster self-efficacy through four mechanisms: mastery experience, vicarious experience, verbal persuasion, and emotional state. These mechanisms are integrated into the game's content, levels, feedback, and challenging activities. The implications suggest that carefully designed digital games can significantly enhance self-efficacy and reading achievements among young learners, offering educators a valuable tool for improving educational outcomes. Future research should explore the long-term effects of digital game-based learning and identify the most effective game features, while also addressing challenges such as equitable access to technology and balancing screen time with other activities.

Abstract

Abstract

This research focuses on the development of differentiated assessment instruments for 11th-grade students in the first semester of senior high school, aligned with the Emancipation Curriculum. The problem addressed in the study is the challenge teachers face in designing assessments that accommodate diverse learning styles—visual, auditory, read/write, and kinesthetic—while aligning with curriculum standards. The purpose of the study is to develop practical, tailored assessment tools that meet the varied needs of students and enhance the effectiveness of instruction. Utilizing the Design and Development (DnD) model by Richey and Klein (2007), the research involved a needs analysis through interviews, questionnaires, and document analysis at selected high schools in Buleleng, Bali. The study adopted a mixed-methods approach, with quantitative data analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data was examined through thematic analysis based on interviews and classroom observations. The results showed that teachers found it challenging to implement differentiated assessments due to the diverse learning preferences of students and the lack of resources. However, the developed assessment instruments were evaluated as "Good" by expert validators, with suggestions for further refinement to achieve excellence. These tools provide a practical framework for teachers to implement differentiated assessments that support personalized learning and align with the Emancipation Curriculum.

Abstract

Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) of Fairclough was employed to analyze discourse regarding cyberbullying on Millen Cyrus's Instagram account, which has claimed herself as transgender. Most of the comments show negative responses. Some linguistic features are analyzed, such as 'bro,' 'laki,' 'tulen,' 'banci,' and many more, which refer to cyberbullying. With the sophisticated features of Instagram, it is no wonder that news could get about quickly. In the context of the situation, Millen could not avoid any attention from the media and the public as she is a part of Ashanty's family, an Indonesian singer and socialite. At the instructional level, it is easy to get more exposure from others since her account has been verified by Instagram, including Millen's followers and non-followers, as people quickly found her posts on the explore feature. The act of some people who put comments on a transgender account, like what they have done to Millen Cyrus, has also evidenced that their discourse is influenced by the existence of their culture, religion, family background, and so on.

Abstract

Determining the best school is a difficult choice for parents, besides the cost and distance from students' homes, there are other supporting factors that must be considered, namely the National Education Standards (SNP). In the implementation of the program to determine the best school based on the National Education Standards (SNP), the manual is now so the calculation process is complicated. Parents of students who have a lot of business are required to provide the best education for their children, so it is necessary to create a system to choose the best school for students. The decision support system created using the AHP model. The weighting method in AHP is used to determine the criteria weights according to the decision makers. The AHP method is then used to rank the best alternative from a number of alternatives. Determination of the best alternative ranking in this system refers to the National Education Standards (SNP), costs, distance from home and school achievement. as a criterion that will be assessed by a decision maker consisting of parents of students. The test results show that the system can rank the school correctly according to the manual calculation but the results show differences with the results from the Tabanan district education office. this is due to the assessment of the Office of Education not considering the importance of inter-criteria weight.
