Abstract

This study aims to analyze the of teachers' basic teaching skills and identify the constraints faced in the Social Studies (IPS) learning process in Grade V at SDN 011 Samarinda Utara. The research is motivated by the importance of pedagogical competence in revitalizing Social Studies material, which tends to be theoretical and information-dense for elementary school students. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with classroom teachers, and documentation studies. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the Grade V teacher has implemented set induction, explaining, and classroom management skills effectively through a contextual approach based on the local environment of Samarinda. However, higher-order questioning skills and small-group discussion leadership remain suboptimal. The primary obstacles identified include limited time allocation, high student density per class (overcrowded classrooms), and technical constraints regarding digital media infrastructure. This study concludes that teachers must perform creative adaptations in applying teaching skills to overcome infrastructure limitations to create a more interactive and meaningful Social Studies learning experience.

Abstract

The nice girl syndrome is a phenomenon that has a negative impact on individuals' lives, causing teenage girls to have poor interpersonal relationships. One way to overcome this problem is to practice assertiveness. This study aims to test the effectiveness of group counseling using assertive training techniques with virtual reality based on artificial intelligence video to improve the assertiveness of students with nice girl syndrome. This research uses a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample consists of 20 female students selected using purposive sampling. The instruments used in this study were an assertive behavior scale that had been tested for validity and reliability, and a nice girl syndrome scale developed by Beverly Engel. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon formula (Signed Rank Test), Mann-Whitney U, and N-gain score test. The results of the study showed that the application of group counseling services using assertive training techniques, combined with virtual reality based on artificial intelligence video in the experimental group, can improve the assertive behavior of students with Nice Girl Syndrome more effectively. This can be seen from the two tests conducted, namely using the Mann-Whitney U formula and the N-gain Score test. The results of this study provide new directions and effective innovations in the implementation of group counseling in the digital technology era, and further development is needed for a wider population.

Abstract

Parenting skills among young mothers are crucial for children’s development (ages 3–6) yet may be shaped by family support under social and economic demands. This study profiled young mothers’ parenting skills in West Sumatra and tested the contribution of perceived support from husbands, parents, and parents-in-law. A total of 200 young mothers completed questionnaires assessing parenting skills (responsiveness, demandingness) and family social support. Descriptively, parenting skills were predominantly moderate (88%). Responsiveness was moderate (M = 31, SD = 4; 69% of the ideal score), whereas demandingness was low (M = 24, SD = 5; 51%). Family support was mostly moderate, with low support more prevalent for parents and parent in laws than for husbands. A three-source hierarchical regression yielded a significant final model (R² = .065): in-law support was positively associated with parenting skills (B = 0.153, p = .003), parental support was negatively associated (B = −0.093, p < .001), and husband support was non-significant. A nine-step model showed that only instrumental in-law support uniquely predicted parenting skills (B = 0.341, p < .001), driving the only meaningful increase in explained variance (ΔR² = .082; final R² = .126). These findings underscore the salience of tangible support from extended family in strengthening young mothers’ parenting skills.
