Abstract

This research aims to measure the effectiveness of the Project-Based Learning Model with RAHMA Syntax (PjBL-RAHMA) in improving prospective biology teachers’ critical thinking skills. RAHMA is an acronym for Recognizing Problems, Analyzing Problems, Handling Projects, Monitoring Progress, and Assessing Results. This research was quasi-experimental with a posttest-only control group design. This research involved 223 prospective biology teachers from three well-accredited public universities in Sumatra, Indonesia. Data from the critical thinking skills test results were analyzed using JASP software. Prospective biology teachers’ achievement of critical thinking skills after learning using the PjBL-RAHMA model showed that the experimental class was better than the control class. This research concludes that PjBL-RAHMA effectively improves prospective biology teachers’ critical thinking skills. This research also explains the contribution of each PjBL-RAHMA syntax in improving prospective biology teachers’ critical thinking skills. The PjBL-RAHMA syntax has increased prospective biology teachers’ ability to understand and analyze real-life problems, providing good reasons, logical thinking, and creating solutions to problems, especially in pedagogy.

Abstract

The validity of assessment instruments is a crucial element in educational research, particularly in evaluating the success of a learning model. In developing an integrated STEM inquiry learning model, it is necessary first to validate the assessment instruments to ensure they can effectively measure the desired learning outcomes, including both academic knowledge and the 21st-century skills developed by students. This study evaluates the validity of the instruments used to assess the feasibility of the integrated STEM inquiry model, which includes the model book, teacher's book, student's book, and a 21st-century skills assessment instrument. The instruments were validated through expert judgment involving three validators: an educational expert in evaluation, a STEM curriculum developer, and a language and communication practitioner. The instruments were assessed using a five-point Likert scale, and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine content, construct, and criterion validity. The results show that the 21st-century skills instrument scored 0.89, the model book scored 0.84, the student book scored 0.87, and the teacher book scored 0.86, all falling into the very high validity category. These findings indicate that the instruments are appropriate and reliable for measuring both academic competencies and essential 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration. The study concludes that employing valid assessment instruments is essential for the effective implementation of the integrated STEM inquiry model and for ensuring its success in fostering the holistic development of students. The findings also highlight the importance of instrument validation in educational settings to ensure that learning models achieve their intended outcomes and prepare students for future challenges.

Abstract

Infertility is a reproductive health issue that affects many couples of reproductive age, and in males it is frequently associated with decreased sperm quality. One of the major contributing factors to impaired sperm quality is oxidative stress, which results from an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the antioxidant defense system. This imbalance can damage sperm cell membranes, alter DNA integrity, and disrupt the process of spermatogenesis. This study aimed to review the potential of Cinnamomum zeylanicum in improving sperm quality through the regulation of oxidative stress. A literature review approach was employed by examining scientific publications obtained from Google Scholar and ResearchGate within the last ten years. Relevant studies were analyzed descriptively based on research design, observed sperm parameters, and the reported findings. The review indicates that Cinnamomum zeylanicum contains several bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, polyphenols, and cinnamaldehyde, which exhibit strong antioxidant activity. These compounds may reduce oxidative damage and protect sperm cells, thereby potentially improving sperm parameters such as count, motility, and viability.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder with rapidly increasing global prevalence and a high burden of complications. Limitations of conventional therapies, including reduced efficacy and adverse effects, highlight the need for complementary approaches with multi-target actions. This study aimed to evaluate the phytochemical composition and antidiabetic potential of Cinnamomum zeylanicum as an adjunct therapy. A literature review was conducted on studies published between 2016 and 2026 retrieved from Google Scholar and ScienceDirect. The findings demonstrate that Cinnamomum zeylanicum is rich in bioactive compounds, particularly polyphenols, flavonoids, cinnamaldehyde, and eugenol, which exert glucose-lowering effects through multiple mechanisms, including inhibition of α-amylase and α-glucosidase, enhancement of insulin sensitivity, and antioxidant activity. Evidence from in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies consistently indicates significant reductions in blood glucose levels and improvements in metabolic parameters. Overall, Cinnamomum zeylanicum shows strong potential as an effective adjunct therapeutic agent for type 2 diabetes mellitus
