Abstract

Hirschsprung’s disease is a congenital condition characterized by a failure of nerve function along the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, resulting in the absence of enteric ganglia in the most distal segment of the colon. Although the prevalence rate is 1:5000 babies born, Hirschsprung’s disease can have a significant impact on patients, especially in terms of quality of life. One of the main genetic factors often associated with the etiopathogenesis of Hirschsprung’s disease is the RET gene. This study aims to provide scientific insight into advances in the understanding of genetic variants associated with RET gene mutations and their role in causing Hirschsprung disease. The research design used was literature review, articles were collected based on sources derived from Google Scholar, PubMed, and EMBASE which included national and international journals published in the last 10 years. Based on the articles collected, it was found that the RET gene is essential for the growth, migration, and maturation of precursor cells into functional neurons. Mutations in the RET gene can interfere with the normal formation and function of nerve cells, leading to symptoms typical of Hirschsprung’s disease.

Abstract

Cows are mammals that are widely bred throughout Indonesia. The large number of cattle breeders in Indonesia has positive and negative sides when viewed from various points of view. Cattle farming generally produces livestock waste, especially manure. Cow dung can be used as a basic ingredient for alternative energy production in the form of biogas. However, in reality, many cattle breeders ignore the problem of animal waste and it is wasted, even causing pollution to the environment. This research aims to test the use of cow dung as the main organic material in biogas production as a sustainable effort to minimize the environmental impact due to livestock waste and as an alternative energy. This research uses an experimental method with a biogas production trial for 21 days using a simple digester. The research results show that cow dung has great potential as a raw material for making biogas. Other factors influence biogas production, such as acidity levels, environmental temperature, and manure conditions.

Abstract

Increasingly developing technology encourages educators to use it in the learning process as a learning medium in order to increase student’s interest in learning. However, currently there are still many who do not optimally use technology-based learning media. The learning media used is monotonous and unable to visualize the material on the excretion system and coordination system in humans. This has an impact on student learning outcomes which are still below the school's Minimum Completion Criteria. Therefore, technology-based learning media such as e-modules in the form of flipbooks are needed. This research aims to produce an Android-based e-module in the form of a flipbook on excretion system and coordination system material that is valid, practical and effective. The type of research used is development research using the Plomp development model which consists of three stages, namely the initial investigation stage, the development stage (prototyping), and the assessment stage. The instruments used were teacher interview guide instrument sheets, student questionnaire sheets, self-evaluation sheets, and e-module validation sheets by experts, as well as e-module practicality assessment sheets in the form of flipbooks filled in by teachers and students. The subjects of this research were class XI high school students. The research object is an Android based e-module in the form of a flipbook on excretion system and coordination system material. The research results show that the Android based e-module in the form of a flipbook obtained very valid criteria validity results with a value of 86.76% and 89.06%, practicality results by teachers and students with very practical criteria with a value of 84.17% and 86.43%. Based on the T test carried out, there is a difference in value between the experimental class and the control class, namely a significance of 0.048 in the excretion system material and 0.003 in the coordination system material. Thus, Android-based e-modules in the form of flipbooks can improve students learning competence.

Abstract

Hirschsprung’s disease (HD) has a complex origin involving genetic factors. While HD cases have been documented in Indonesia, the genetic inheritance is unexplored. This study aims to update HD in Indonesia, determine the inheritance pattern through pedigree analysis, and identify the non-genetic factors contributing to HD, including parental demographics and maternal aspects. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 87 respondents across Indonesia. The results revealed a male-to-female incidence ratio of 1.90:1, with the ultra-short segment being the most common type (75.86%), and familial cases accounted for 8%. Seventeen patients exhibited other congenital abnormalities, with pneumonia, redundant colon, and cardiac defect as the highest cases. Over 70% of the parents were aged 20-35 and had relatively high education and income levels. Notably, nearly half of the mothers experienced food aversion in the first trimester (n=38) and frequently consumed fast or instant food during pregnancy (n=33). The study confirmed that HD follows an autosomal recessive inheritance pattern. These findings emphasize the role of genetic inheritance in incidents of HD, which is valuable for developing early detection strategies and providing genetic counseling for at-risk families. Maternal lifestyle factors may play a role in the development of HD, which needs further investigation.
