Abstract

This research is aimed at examining the BIPA teaching book "Language Friendly Volume 1" published by Antasari Banjarmasin State Islamic University from several aspects: First, a review of the suitability of the material with the Graduate Competency Standards (SKL) stipulated in the Permendikbub from its accuracy and cultural content. Second, this research is aimed at examining the suitability of material for Arabic speakers, this refers to the fact that Arabs often dominate BIPA participants at UIN Antasari. This study uses a qualitative approach because the data are in the form of narratives or text. The method used by researchers is content analysis. The indicators used in analyzing the book's content were adopted from Muslich, and the rating interval was adopted from the scale developed by Nurgiyantoro. The results of this study revealed that the BIPA textbook "Language Friendly Volume 1" designed for the A1 level of need, was still "not appropriate" with a percentage of 50%. The drawback is that the author is inconsistent in presenting the material, narrative, dialogue, and Indonesian insights. There is also material content that is not yet time to be delivered at the A1 level. This BIPA textbook is considered not suitable for use by Arabic speakers or even other foreign speakers.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic to date has caused learning to be carried out remotely to prevent further transmission of the virus. The use of Google Classroom is a solution for learning fiqh lughah online at this critical time. So far, there are still few studies that examine student perceptions of online learning of fiqh lughah. Therefore, this study aims to investigate student perceptions of online learning of fiqh lughah using Google Classroom. This research is exploratory, investigative research with 33 students as the subject. All exploratory data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques by adopting several steps: tabulating the Microsoft Excel application data, adding a percentage score to the data, and presenting the analyzed data in a summary table. These findings reveal that distance learning using Google Classroom gets a positive response from students even though they have to adapt more intensely to be comfortable with the learning process. Therefore, learning fiqh lughah through Google Classroom should be considered as an alternative media for online learning.

Abstract

The main goal of learning Arabic is to develop practical linguistic skills among learners centered around the concept of willingness to communicate (WTC). WTC refers to learners' strong desire and readiness to speak in specific contexts or situations. A critical challenge is how to accurately measure WTC in Arabic language learning using a valid and reliable instrument. Understanding WTC is crucial as it indicates learners' motivation to use Arabic, enhances their speaking proficiency, and creates a supportive linguistic environment. Research on WTC in Arabic language learning is currently limited, necessitating further exploration in this area. Consequently, this study aims to develop a valid and reliable WTC measurement instrument for Arabic language learners using a quantitative approach, incorporating both Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) methods. The participants for this research are 204 Arabic language learners, and a survey was utilized for data collection. The WTC instrument employed in this study is an adaptation of existing instruments, modified to align with the context of Arabic language learning and the specific conditions of Indonesian learners. The findings reveal that the WTC construct has yielded valid and reliable items that can be used to measure WTC among learners in Arabic language learning. Furthermore, there are three main dimensions within this construct, namely, the context of online, classroom, and offline. Thus, it is hoped that the WTC construct developed can be utilized to measure aspects of WTC among Arabic language learners, thereby enabling the determination of further steps in realizing linguistic behaviors

Abstract

The researcher chose this title because of problems in listening skills learning activities, such as students have not been able to receive information or messages contained from a speaker, which is caused by a lack of vocabulary, their inability to differentiate short and long sounds of letters in pairs. In addition, the students lack interest in learning, and the teacher chooses media and methods unsuitable for listening learning activities. This study aims to analyze the application of chain whispering games in teaching listening, analyze the effect of chain whispering on students' learning outcomes, and reveal the supporting and inhibiting factors in teaching this game. This quantitative research uses an experimental (pre-experimental) method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study were students of class VIII at MTs Serpong, and researchers took research samples of 33 students in class VIII. Researchers used data collecting methods: pre- and post-tests, observation, interviews, and questionnaires. After the researcher gave the pretest and posttest to students, this study obtained an average pretest score of 53.48 and an average posttest score of 79.10, with the results of the effectiveness of the N-Gain pretest and posttest of language games on students' listening skills was 54.0 with the category enough. After the calculation, the table value is obtained at the 5% level, which is 0.943, and shows that the Zero Hypothesis ( 16HO" style="width: 15pt; height: 15pt;"> ) and the Alternative Hypothesis ( 16Ha" style="width: 15pt; height: 15pt;"> ) are accepted. It shows a significant effect between the series of whispering games on listening skills learning and student learning outcomes. Keywords:  Learning Listening Skills, Language Games, Whispering Chains

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using the PQRST strategy (Preview, Question, Read, Summarize, Test) in teaching reading skills. In addition, this research examines the steps for implementing this strategy, measures students' comprehension levels after its application, and demonstrates students' learning outcomes in Maharah Qira’ah using the PQRST strategy. This study employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a non-equivalent control group design. The sample consists of eleventh-grade students at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Muddatsiriyah, totaling 58 students. The researcher divided the students into two groups: 29 students in the experimental group and 29 students in the control group. Data collection involved pre-test and post-test assessments as well as interviews. For data analysis, the researcher conducted a normality test using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, a homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing using the t-test and N-Gain test through SPSS Statistics 27. The results of this study show that the average post-test score for the experimental group (82.58) is higher than that of the control group (64.89). Based on this difference, the researcher concludes that the average score of the experimental class is higher than that of the control class. Additionally, the independent sample t-test resulted in a value of 0.00 < 0.05, indicating that ?0 is rejected and ?? is accepted. The N-Gain test score shows that the use of the PQRST strategy achieved a score of 0.61 or 61%, which falls within the moderate effectiveness category. Therefore, based on statistical tests, the PQRST strategy is declared effective with a moderate level of effectiveness in teaching reading skills. Keywords: Effectiveness, PQRST Strategy, Maharah Qira’ah.
