Abstract

This research was motivated by the low conceptual understanding and learning outcomes of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri Dua Singkep, caused by teacher-centered learning and the use of conventional teaching materials. This study aimed to develop a Discovery Learning-based Student Worksheet integrated with the STEM approach and the Lastek game as an innovative learning medium, and to test its feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness in Physics learning. The research method used was Research and Development with the ADDIE model, encompassing the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects were eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri Dua Singkep in the academic year of 2024 to 2025. The results showed that the developed Student Worksheet had a very high level of validity, was easy to use in the learning process, and was effective in improving conceptual understanding and student learning outcomes. Therefore, the STEM-based Discovery Learning Student Worksheet with the Lastek game is deemed suitable for use as a teaching material to support interactive, contextual, and student-centered Physics learning.

Abstract

Education plays an important role in the advancement of science and technology in society. However, many teachers still face obstacles in utilizing mobile devices as interactive learning media, particularly in terms of understanding how to use the media and developing operational skills. This condition limits the variety of learning activities that can be presented in the classroom and reduces the optimal use of technology. This community service program was carried out through training involving 80 teachers from the MGMP IPA Pekanbaru City, focusing on the planning, implementation, and assessment of interactive media–based learning. The training was designed to provide teachers with hands-on experience in operating devices, becoming familiar with essential features, and integrating them into the teaching and learning process. This activity is expected to improve teachers’ understanding and skills in utilizing educational technology, thereby enabling them to be more proficient in using interactive media in the classroom. Consequently, teachers will be better prepared to face the challenges of technological development and contribute to improving the quality of education in schools.

Abstract

Assessment practices in secondary science and physics classrooms often emphasize scoring rather than generating actionable evidence of students’ understanding. This challenge becomes more urgent under the Merdeka Curriculum, which positions assessment as an integral component of learning. To address this need, this study aimed to develop and validate a teacher guide module for UbD (Understanding by Design)-based science assessment for junior and senior secondary levels by operationalizing backward design and the six facets of understanding into practical procedures, templates, and worked examples. Using a research and development approach with the 4D model (Define–Design–Develop–Disseminate), the module was produced through needs analysis, curriculum and literature review, and iterative drafting. Content validation was conducted by three validators using a four-point relevance scale, analyzed with feasibility percentages and Aiken’s V complemented by Score (Wilson) confidence intervals. Practicality was examined through a limited pilot involving three science teachers who applied the module and completed a five-point response questionnaire. The results showed high feasibility across usefulness, practicality, conceptual accuracy, and language/visual design. At the same time, item-level content validity was strong (Aiken’s V = 0.78–1.00) with conservative lower confidence bounds indicating at least moderate validity for all items. Teachers reported uniformly positive perceptions, with perceived usefulness rated highest (M = 4.83), although implementation of the Explanation facet was relatively more challenging (lowest item mean, M = 3.67). This study’s novelty lies in providing a step-by-step, facet-based assessment design guide that explicitly links learning objectives, acceptable evidence, and analytic rubrics within a single teacher-ready resource. In conclusion, the validated module is feasible and practically promising as an evidence-centered tool to strengthen alignment between curriculum outcomes and assessment in secondary science. The module contributes to physics education by supporting teachers to design authentic, rubric-based assessments that better capture students’ scientific reasoning and conceptual understanding.

Abstract

The low level of students’ problem-solving skills and awareness of energy-saving behavior highlights the urgency of developing contextual teaching materials aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a Creative Problem Solving (CPS)–based e-module to improve students’ problem-solving skills while fostering energy-saving character. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group. The sample comprised two eleventh-grade science classes purposively selected from a senior high school in Aceh Utara Regency, Indonesia. Effectiveness analysis was conducted by comparing learning outcomes between the experimental and control groups. The results indicate that the CPS-based e-module effectively improved students’ problem-solving skills, with an average N-Gain score of 71.73, classified as high. In addition, the e-module contributed positively to the development of energy-saving character, as reflected in improvements in most indicators (frugality, accuracy, tolerance, and creativity) toward habitual behavior. These findings imply that CPS-based e-modules have the potential to serve as integrated learning innovations that enhance instructional quality while fostering energy-saving character at the secondary education level.
