Abstract

Background: α1-adrenergic antagonists are a cornerstone therapy for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Their association with intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS) during cataract surgery is well-established, yet the comparative risk between the highly α1A-selective agent tamsulosin and other α1-blockers has not been adequately quantified in a meta-analysis. This study aimed to synthesize the evidence to determine the magnitude of this differential risk. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search was conducted across PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library through September 2025. We included comparative studies reporting IFIS incidence in adults on α1-blockers undergoing cataract surgery. Data were independently extracted by two reviewers. The primary outcome was the pooled Odds Ratio (OR) for IFIS, calculated using a random-effects model. Heterogeneity was assessed with the I² statistic. Results: The search yielded 1,218 records, with six studies comprising 10,878 patients meeting the inclusion criteria. The incidence of IFIS was 18.7% in the tamsulosin group versus 2.9% in the comparator group (other α1-blockers or control). Tamsulosin was associated with a significantly greater risk of IFIS (Pooled OR = 4.28, 95% CI: 2.91–6.31, p < 0.00001). This corresponds to an absolute risk increase of 15.8% and a Number Needed to Harm (NNH) of 7, suggesting one additional case of IFIS occurs for every seven patients treated with tamsulosin instead of a different agent. Moderate heterogeneity was noted (I² = 62%). Conclusion: This meta-analysis provides robust evidence that tamsulosin carries a more than four-fold increased odds of IFIS compared to other α1-blockers. This substantial and clinically meaningful risk, highlighted by an NNH of 7, mandates a risk-stratified approach to BPH management. A patient's present or future ophthalmological needs must be a central factor in the shared decision-making process when selecting an α1-blocker.

Abstract

Forest is an expanse of land dominated by plants. The high diversity of plants shows how many different types of plants are found in an area and is a source of life for living creatures in and around forest areas. This research aims to determine the composition of plant species in the Other Use Area (OUA) forest area in the Weather Pantan District, Atu Kapur, Seneren and Kuning Kurnia Villages. This research method takes samples using a systematic random system. The sample instensity of 0.12% with 25 sample plots. The results of the research showed that 19 plant species from 12 families were found with a total of 520 individuals at the sapling, pole and tree level. These plants are dominated by the Jamu Wood (Syzygium grande) and Geseng Bunge (Lithocarpus sp.) types with a total of 94 individuals. The species diversity index at all levels (saplings, poles and trees) is in the medium category and the distribution is stable based on the species evenness index at each growth level.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Peatland is an ecosystem formed by the accumulation of biomass that takes place faster than the rate of decomposition. In Aceh Province, the area of peatland is recorded at 338,164 hectares. Utilization of peatland that is not in accordance with the principles of sustainability can cause ecosystem degradation characterized by a decrease in the thickness and depth of the peat layer. This study aims to identify changes in the distribution of peat depth classes and analyze changes in the classification of peat ecosystems in Sumber Bakti Village. The analysis was conducted by comparing the peat depth map published by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in 2019 with the results of spatial interpolation using the Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) method. The research found changes in the peat depth class and variations in the extent of its distribution between the peat depth map issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and the interpolated map in Sumber Bakti Village. In addition, a comparison of the two maps also revealed a decrease in the area of protected function areas, indicating a change in the ecological function of peatlands in the area.
