Abstract

This study aims to develop and test the validity and reliability of an observation instrument for spin serve techniques in tennis. We designed this instrument to measure seven main aspects of the spin serve movement: coiling, toss, backswing, uncoiling, strike zone, follow-through, and fall-in. Using a quantitative approach and descriptive correlational design, this study involved 30 students who had taken advanced tennis lessons. The validity of the instrument was tested using the Pearson product-moment correlation, while the reliability was tested using the Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The results indicated that all aspects had correlation values above 0.3, and the reliability of the instrument was in the moderate category (α = 0.552). These findings indicate that the developed observation instrument is feasible to use in the context of spin serve tennis. We can conclude that novice athletes can effectively evaluate their performance using the observation instrument for spin serve techniques in tennis. All aspects have adequate validity, and the instrument as a whole shows moderate reliability. This instrument can be an initial reference in the process of training more objective and systematic spin-speak techniques, although it still needs improvement to increase reliability.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of South Sulawesi's local culture-based aerobic dances on enhancing cardiovascular endurance and flexibility. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest group approach. The research subjects consisted of 20 healthy young women aged 18–25 years. The intervention program was conducted over eight weeks, with participants attending three sessions per week, each lasting 45 minutes. The aerobic dance program incorporated traditional South Sulawesi dance movements and music. Cardiovascular endurance was measured using the Beep Test, while flexibility was assessed through the Sit and Reach test. The results showed a significant increase in both variables with p < 0.05. These findings indicate that local culture-based aerobic dances are effective in enhancing physical fitness while providing a more meaningful and enjoyable exercise experience through cultural engagement. This research provides a scientific foundation for developing physical training programs based on local wisdom that can be implemented in community-based physical activities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the spin serve technique in novice tennis players, with an emphasis on trunk rotation and dynamic balance, using Kinovea motion analysis software. A total of 30 novice athletes, aged 14–16 years, from South Sulawesi, became the subjects in this study. Data were collected through high-speed video recording from three angles and analyzed using Kinovea to observe seven stages of tennis court service, namely: coiling, ball toss, backswing, uncoiling, strike zone, follow-through, and fall-in. The results showed that the effective spin serve technique is greatly influenced by optimal trunk rotation with an average of 8.32 and good dynamic balance with an average of 72.03. These findings indicate that players with proper trunk rotation and balance tend to produce more accurate and powerful serves. Kinovea has been proven effective as an objective tool in evaluating the quality of the spin serve technique.

Abstract

Background. Cardiovascular disease, cognitive decline, and mental health disorders are becoming increasingly prevalent worldwide, posing serious threats to public health and individual well-being. These conditions often stem from sedentary lifestyles, poor cardiovascular fitness, and lack of consistent physical activity. As such, identifying effective and accessible strategies for prevention and management is crucial. Objectives. This literature review aims to evaluate the impact of running and walking"”two of the most common and accessible forms of physical activity"”on cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and mental well-being. The goal is to determine the extent to which these activities contribute to the prevention and improvement of such health conditions. Methods. This study employed the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to analyze 70 selected peer-reviewed articles published between 2014 and 2024. Articles were retrieved from reputable academic databases including Google Scholar, Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science, and Crossref. The keywords used for selection included "cardiovascular health," "physical activity," "mental health," "cognitive," "running," and "walking." Results. Findings indicate that running is strongly associated with enhanced cardiovascular function, reduced risk of cognitive impairment, and improved mental health through increased blood circulation and brain activity. Walking, although lower in intensity, also showed significant benefits, particularly for older adults or individuals with limited physical capacity. Conclusion. Both running and walking are effective, non-pharmacological interventions for improving cardiovascular, cognitive, and mental health outcomes. While running provides more robust physiological benefits, walking remains a widely accessible and sustainable option for most populations.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) has been an important problem, along with increasing obesity which is currently a cause of death. This service aims to create reliable pioneers in Diabetes Exercise (DE). These pioneers are provided with DE which can have direct implications in society. This DE is designed with 7 warm-up movements, 4 core movements, and 5 cool-down movements. Before carrying out the service, the subject is given material in the form of a video, then the service member takes a pretest score. After that, the teacher provides good and correct movement material to the subject by giving examples of each movement. Then the subjects were divided into small groups to learn diabetes exercise movements, at the end of the meeting a pretest score was taken to determine the subject's mastery of the movements. The final results showed that 41 subjects or 46.1% were in the good category

Abstract

This study analyzes the differences between the concentration levels of the rote low-impact aerobics dance group and the video low-impact aerobics dance group. The subjects in this study were 36 adolescents aged 18-20 years who voluntarily participated. Subjects were divided ordinal pairing into two groups, namely 18 people in the rote low-impact aerobics dance group and 18 people in the video low-impact aerobics dance group. The duration of the exercise is 30 minutes sessions with an intensity of 50-70% HRmax, and the frequency of exercise is 3 times/week for 6 weeks. Concentration levels were evaluated pretest and posttest the intervention using the Grid Concentration Test. The data analysis used the Independent Sample Test with a significant level (p ≤ 0.05). The results showed that there was an increase in the average concentration between the pretest and posttest in the rote low-impact aerobics dance group (scores 6.89 ± 2.45 and 9.56 ± 2.64, p = 0.000), and the video low-impact aerobics dance group (scores 7.39 ± 2.38 and 9.11 ± 2.45, p = 0.000). Based on the pretest and posttest data it was concluded that there was an increase in the level of concentration in both groups, but there was no difference between the rote low-impact aerobics dance and video low-impact aerobics dance on concentration.

Abstract

Background. Accuracy in serving contributes to an athlete's game consistency, making them more unpredictable for opponents. This not only affects the technical aspect but also the psychological one, as players with accurate serves are able to maintain mental pressure on the opponent, which can ultimately change the dynamics of the match. Objectives. This research evaluates service accuracy in beginner tennis athletes at PELTI Pangkep, an aspect often overlooked in sports literature. The research gap lies in the lack of studies concerning service accuracy, especially among beginner athletes. The research aims to measure tennis service accuracy. Methods. This research is a quantitative descriptive study with a survey design conducted on January 23, 2024, involving 20 beginner tennis athletes aged 10"“18 years at PELTI Pangkep, selected through purposive sampling. The instrument used was the Hewitt Test to evaluate serves, performed with 3 trials and 10 scored serves. The data was then analyzed descriptively to calculate the mean, standard deviation, and distribution of the test results. Results. The results show that 1 athlete or 5% were in the high category, 5 athletes or 25% in the medium category, 4 athletes or 20% in the low category, and 10 athletes or 50% in the very low category, with an average score of 27.85. Conclusion. The conclusion of this research indicates that the service accuracy of beginner tennis athletes at PELTI Pangkep is still low, with most athletes in the very low category. This research contributes to the development of more effective training methods for beginner athletes.
