Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic religiosity in addressing the quarter-life crisis (QLC), with self-confidence as a mediating variable. Design/methodology/approach – This study uses a cross-sectional quantitative method with a survey approach. The participants were 201 Islamic religious education teachers’ candidate from three private universities in Yogyakarta. Data were collected using three psychological scales: Quarter-Life Crisis, Islamic Religiosity, and Self-Confidence. Data analysis used structural equation modeling with the SmartPLS 3.0 program. Findings – The research findings indicate that Islamic religiosity has a significant negative direct effect on QLC and a significant positive direct effect on self-confidence, while self-confidence has a significant negative direct effect on QLC. Furthermore, Islamic religiosity also has an indirect effect on QLC through the mediation of self-confidence. Research implications/limitations – This study suggests the importance of promoting Islamic religiosity as a protective factor against QLC among Islamic religious education teacher candidates. A very important new finding from the study is that Islamic religiosity will increasingly suppress QLC if mediated by self-confidence, and this has not been explained by other studies. However, this study also has limitations, particularly the sample size and the specific religious context, which may affect the generalizability of the findings. Originality/value – This research provides essential insights into how enhancing Islamic religiosity and self-confidence can serve as effective strategies to prevent the quarter-life crisis among future Islamic education teachers.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of a demonstrative learning model integrated with digital media in improving students’ learning outcomes on fiqh topics of qurban and aqiqah at MAN Kota Tegal. Using a quantitative approach, the study employed a quasi-experimental two-group pretest–posttest design with 140 students, comprising a control group (n = 70) and an experimental group (n = 70), implemented over four sessions across two weeks. Descriptive results show that the control group increased from M = 58.39; SD = 6.60 (pretest) to M = 75.37; SD = 9.40 (posttest), while the experimental group increased from M = 56.63; SD = 6.56 to M = 75.06; SD = 10.78. Paired-samples t-tests indicate significant improvements in both groups (control: t = 19.09; p < .001; experimental: t = 16.49; p < .001). However, between-group comparisons reveal no statistically significant differences in posttest scores (p = .854) or gain scores (p = .314), although the experimental group’s mean gain (M = 18.43; SD = 9.35) was slightly higher than the control group’s (M = 16.99; SD = 7.45). ANCOVA (posttest as the dependent variable, pretest as a covariate) further confirms a non-significant group effect (b = −1.19; p = .409), while baseline performance significantly predicts posttest (b = 0.86; p < .001; R² = .311). These findings suggest that learning outcomes improved substantially in both groups, yet the added value of digital integration within the demonstrative model was not statistically superior to the comparison instruction under the observed context and duration.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze the effect of using Artificial Intelligence (ChatGPT) on the critical thinking skills of students in the Distance Learning Islamic Education (PJJ PAI) Program at Universitas Islam Negeri Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon. The rapid adoption of AI has raised concerns regarding the potential degradation of intellectual independence due to instant information retrieval. This quantitative correlational study involved 100 active students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using an online Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using simple linear regression. The results showed that the majority of students exhibited a high intensity of ChatGPT usage while maintaining good critical thinking skills. There is a positive and significant effect of ChatGPT usage on students' critical thinking skills, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. The coefficient of determination of 0.222 indicates that ChatGPT contributes 22.2% to stimulating critical thinking. In conclusion, ChatGPT does not automatically erode students' reasoning abilities; rather, it can stimulate critical thinking when used as an interactive discussion partner. The practical implications of these findings urge higher education institutions to formulate ethical guidelines for AI utilization and encourage educators to adopt Problem-Based Learning methods to prevent the misuse of AI technology.
