Abstract

Artikel ini mengungkapkan pengaruh prosedur penerjemahan terhadap keakuratan terjemahan Bahasa Inggris novel Sitti Nurbaya. Novel ini sendiri merupakan sebuah karya sastra lama yang memuat potret penjajahan Belanda sehingga novel ini tentunya sarat akan Ideologi. Lebih lanjut Ideologi yang akan coba dianalisis adalah penggalan-penggalan teks yang memuat Klasifikasi Ideologi Budaya oleh Yasnur Asri yang ada dalam novel tersebut. Klasifikasi tersebut tidak ada bedanya dengan dua kelompok besar ideologi kolonialisme dan postkolonialisme hanya saja ini merupakan penjabaran yang lebih spesifik tentang kedua kubu ideologi tersebut. Belanda di sini hadir sebagai potret wajah dari kolonial dan tokoh-tokoh lainnya yang pro belanda dan pihak-pihak yang kontra maka merupakan potret dari poskolonialisme. Hasil dari penelitian ini hanya memasukkan 5 dari 6 jenis klasifikasi ideologi kultural yang dinyatakan Yasnur Asri karena salah satu poin tersebut telah terwakilkan dalam poin lainnya. Metode yang diterapkan adalah metode kualitatif dengan teknik pengamatan dan pencatatan lalu untuk kemudian dianalisis juga. Untuk Prosedur yang diterapkan dari beberapa sampel data yang dimasukkan menunjukkan prosedur dengan frekuensi paling banyak adalah pergeseran, kesepadanan dan sinonim sementara prosedur dengan frekuensi rendah adalah modulasi, pengurangan dan pemindahan. Keakuratan yang muncul dari hasil penggunaan prosedur-prosedur tersebut menunjukkan mayoritas akurat.

Abstract

Euphemism is the use of good expressions. It can be found in a variety of texts, especially in news texts. News texts are read by various groups of people. Therefore, the choice of proper words used by the writers is necessary. This is a qualitative research using content analysis method. This research examines the types of euphemistic expressions and the translation techniques found in 20 Tempo.co news texts, both in Indonesian and their translation in English. The theory of Allan and Burridge is used to classify the types of euphemistic expressions. There are 46 euphemistic expressions found in Tempo.co online news texts which are classified into 9 types of euphemism such as figurative expression, jargon, circumlocution, general for specific, part of whole euphemism, remodelling, omission, colloquial, and one for one substitution. The euphemistic expressions are translated using 4 translation techniques. They are generalization, borrowing, transposition, and literal translation.Keywords: euphemism, types of euphemism, translation techniques

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyse the needs of four primary language skills in developing Japanese teaching materials for tourism purposes. Research data was collected by applying questionnaire and interview method. In Tourism and Marketing Management Study Program - FPIPS UPI, the needs analysis result of Japanese teaching materials for tourism showed the average level of percentage ranging from 4 to 5 by applying Likert scale measurement. Based on the questionnaire conducted to 40 participants, speaking skills showed the highest response rate, both from students and lecturer’s perception. Listening Skills from student’s perception yielded approximately 86% or an average of 4.3, while from lecturer’s perception yielded 90% or an average of 4.5. Meanwhile, speaking skills from student’s perception reach 95% response rate or an average of 4.7, and from lecturer’s perception yielded 100% response rate or an average of 5.0. For the need of reading skills, student’s perception showed 86% response rate or an average of 4.3, and 80% or an average of 4.0 for lecturer’s perception. Further, the need of writing skills yielded 88% or an average 4.4 response rate from the students’ perception, and 80% or an average of 4.0 response rate of the lecturer’s perception.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: 1) kebutuhan materi ajar membaca bagi siswa BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia Penutur Asing) tingkat A1 dengan pendekatan deduktif di Sekolah Dasar D’Royal Moroco Integrative Islamic School, dan 2) kondisi materi ajar membaca yang selama ini digunakan di sekolah tersebut. Metode penelitian yang digunakan merupakan tahapan eksplorasi dari penelitian pengembangan. Berdasarkan hasil observasi, analisis dokumen, wawancara, dan tes dapat dijabarkan bahwa sekolah tersebut belum memiliki silabus dan materi ajar khusus bagi para siswa BIPA. Sedangkan di sekolah tersebut memiliki cukup banyak siswa BIPA. Hal ini menjadikan pentingnya pengembangan materi ajar membaca BIPA tingkat A1 untuk segera dilakukan. Dalam pendekatan deduktif, materi ajar yang dikembangkan, harus memiliki urutan penyajian sebagai berikut: 1) kaidah pada bagian awal, 2) diikuti contoh-contoh relevan, dan 3) latihan yang memadai. Dalam kaitannya dengan penggunaan materi bagi siswa SD yang masih tergolong anak-anak, maka materi ajar yang dikembangkan juga harus memuat ilustrasi yang menarik.

Abstract

This study is aimed to find out the effect of Cooperative learning techniques and personality types on English essay writing skill. This study was conducted at STIBA – IEC Jakarta for the fourth semester in the academic year 2016/2017. It was an experimental study with the factorial design 2 x 2 at 0.05 significance level. The sample was 32 students and divided into two groups which each group was 16 students. The research reveals that: (1) students’ English essay writing skill taught with Think-Pair-Share (TPS) technique was  higher than with Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) technique; (2) English essay writing skill on introvert personality type was higher than extrovert personality types; (3) there was interaction effect between learning techniques and personality type toward English essay writing skill; and (4) students with introvert type taught with TPS technique was higher than those taught with STAD technique. There is an interaction effect between learning techniques and personality types on English essay writing skills. Abstract

Learning a new language is inevitably working on activities in relation to the four language skills, namely reading, listening, speaking and writing. Reading and listening are categorized as receptive skills, while speaking and writing are productive skills. Differing from the other skills, in developing writing skills learners do not merely focus on the writing products, but more on its process in which they have to follow certain steps. It is the teacher’s responsibility to guide the students to develop excellence in writing. Universitas Terbuka (UT), as a higher education institution applying distance learning, has provided an online tutorial (tuton) to enhance students’ writing skills. In this study, the writer focuses on students’ skills in writing essays, particularly argumentative essays. Furthermore, constructivism is taken as tutor’s point of view to evaluate the materials as well as the learning process in the tuton of PBIS4313/Writing III Course. This research aimed at analyzing the students’ perceptions about the needs of Writing III Course, regarding both the materials and the learning process, particularly the implementation of the constructivism approach. The descriptive qualitative method was applied in this research. An online survey was carried out to gain some information on the perceptions of the students regarding the learning materials as well as the learning approach needed in this course. From the online survey, it showed that more than 50% students find difficulties in writing. However, they shared their opinions about the needs of the materials appropriate for Writing III Course as the basic information for futher development of the materials. Moreover, this research also resulted in some learning activities to be designed based on the constructivism approach.Key Words: constructivism approach, online tutorial, writing skills, argumentative essay

Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze the needs on integrative content-based Indonesian language learning materials about agriculture for foreign speakers A2 level. Research and development design was used employing the Dick and Carey’s model combined with Borg and Gall’s model, as well as the model of learning materials development proposed by Tomlinson, Brown, and Jolly and Bolitho. This research was conducted at Indonesian for foreign speakers, Bogor Agricultural University program  (BIPA IPB) on academic year 2015-2017. The procedure comprised: pre-study, students’ and teachers’ needs analysis on teaching materials at BIPA IPB. The findings indicated that the teaching materials about agriculture are not available yet at IPB. Besides, the needs on integrative content-based Indonesian language learning materials about agriculture for students at A2 level and the teachers were indicated high.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to acquire deep understanding of the developing syllabus of Arabic language’s productive competence based on content language integrated learning at Arabic language teaching department. Focus of this research is: the model of syllabus of Arabic language productive competence. This research was conducted from July 2015 until February 2016 .The research method used in this study is a research development with a qualitative approach to content. The approach used in analyzing the analysis of students need. The research instrument is the researcher herself who is equipped with table analysis. The result showed that Based on an analysis of documents of syllabus productive skills that are currently used in the Department of Arabic Language and Literature, State University of Jakarta focusing on the themes that have been determined for each meeting. How syllabus like this had not yet shown the achievements of the expected learning, so that the study sought to develop a syllabus based on the needs of learners with the approach of the syllabus-based CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning).

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find the effect of learning strategies (metacognitive and cognitive strategies) and personality (intrinsic and extrinsic personality) on Arabic listening skills. It was experiment research with experimental methods by factorial 2x2 design. It used a 2-way analysis variance design. The process of collecting data used questionnaires, tests, observations, and documentation. The results showed that there was a significant influence on Arabic listening ability with different personality levels. Personality differences in the application of listening learning strategies are closely related. Language learning varies depending on individual characteristics and variations in language learning outcomes associated with student characteristics. Cognitive and metacognitive strategies have a significant influence on the Arabic listening ability with different levels of personality types namely extrovert and introvert. Therefore, it can be concluded that different personalities will influence the level of different listening skills in Arabic. The results of the study recommend that the learning process of listening to Arabic using metacognitive and cognitive strategies can be varied with the concept of group learning and enrichment of vocabulary from the material presented.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan resepsi mahasiswa semester VI C Jurusan PBSI (Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta yang sudah membaca novel “Ayat-ayat Cinta 1”. Resepsi mahasiswa terhadap nilai moral tokoh utama dalam novel Ayat-ayat Cinta 1 karya Habiburrahman El Shirazy tersebut mencakup: (1) nilai moral agama; (2) nilai moral kepribadian; dan (3) nilai moral sosial. Data penelitian kulaitatif ini diperoleh melalui angket dan wawancara. Prosedur pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara: menyebarkan angket, melakukan wawancara, mengumpulkan data, mengklasifikasi data, dan menganalisis data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai moral agama tokoh utama baik dengan persentase 9,3%, begitupula dengan nilai moral kepribadian dengan persentase 9,0%, dan nilai moral sosialnya dengan persentase 9,6%. Nilai moral tokoh utama dapat menjadi teladan dan pelajaran bagi mahasiswa sehingga dapat membentuk karakter yang kuat dalam nilai moral beragama, nilai moral kepribadian, dan nilai moral sosial.
