Abstract

Self-defense mechanism is part of Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory. According to Freud, self-defense mechanism is an individual way of coping with anxiety-related outbursts. Anxiety can arise when there is a conflict of desire between the id and ego because the id gets a sex drive and aggression that forces the ego to do something it wants. The problem of individuals who overcome anxiety by self-defense can also occur in human "creation" in the form of characters in literary works, as in the novel. The novel to be studied in this research is a children's novel from Germany entitled Pünktchen und Anton by Erich Kästner. The main characters, Pünktchen and Anton, are still in elementary school. Pünktchen and Anton have different life problems from each other. This study aims to know in depth or to explore the type of self-defense mechanism used by the two main figures in the face of anxiety. This research is qualitative research with a content analysis method. The results show there are 31 data on self-defense mechanisms in this novel. Pünktchen uses the form of Repression 3 data, Reaction Formation 6 data, Displacement 1 data, Fixation 1 data, Disclaimer 1 data, and Rationalization 1 data. Anton uses the form of Repression 4 data, Reaction Formation 6 data, Displacement 3 data, Sublimation 2 data, and Rationalization 3 data. The second sub-focus on the type of personality of the main character, the results show Pünktchen used 4 data for id, 4 data for superego, and 1 data for ego. It means Pünktchen's personality is dominated by id and superego. Anton used 3 data for the id, 6 data for the ego, and 5 data for the superego. It means Anton has a healthy personality because he was dominated by his ego.

Abstract

The issue of manipulation in the problem of environmental damage is a topic that never expires. Literary works as a medium to disseminate good values and morals in life. One of them is the drama script Mata Air Mata (MAM) by Lab Teater Ciputat which raises environmental issues. Dissemination of this good message can be done because the MAM script is a collection of collective unconsciousness that needs to be traced to the markers and signifieds of the characters it presents. This study will discuss the collective unconsciousness in the form of archetypes, semiotic archetypes, and character ideologies from an ecocritical perspective, in the MAM drama script. The limitation of the problem focuses on the dominant archetype of each character in the MAM drama script, namely the character of Kabut Asap. The research methodology uses qualitative descriptive. The discussion uses the theory of the collective unconscious of Carl Gustav Jung and the semiotics of Charles Sanders Peirce. The results of this study show that the dominant archetype of the Kabut Asap character, namely the trickster, shows the ideology of anthropocentrism.

This program serves as an effort to conserve Betawi cultural heritage, which is increasingly being eroded by modernization. The activity involves local communities, especially the younger generation, in storytelling training so that they can understand, appreciate, and pass down the story of Si Pitung a symbol of heroism, courage, and justice in Betawi culture. The storytelling training model is divided into two parts. The first phase stimulates participants with insights into the history of Marunda and the stories surrounding the Si Pitung Cultural Heritage Site. The second phase trains participants to rewrite the Si Pitung story based on their collective memory as Marunda residents closely connected to the legend. Participants then engage in interactive workshops, intensive mentoring, and performance simulations to enhance their storytelling skills in a captivating and memorable way. The outcomes of this program are expected to increase public awareness of the importance of preserving oral literature, strengthen local cultural identity, and encourage active participation among the younger generation in appreciating folk tales as a form of local wisdom within the coastal community of Marunda Pulo.

Abstract

A compelling speech figure, a parable, or a metaphor in the Qur'an seeks to explain a crucial point by sticking in the mind and helping us absorb the message and firmly lodge it in our hearts. The stylistic method utilized in this study was a corpus-based stylistic method, which entails a contextual assessment of the term or pattern in issue. The information is based on passages from the Qur'anic corpus that have been translated into English. The stylistic corpus-based approach was used to investigate four different types of metaphor. They are standard, implied, visual, and extended metaphors, as evidenced by the findings. From the result finding it shows that there are 21 verses in the metaphor that are classified as standard metaphors, accounting for 61% of the metaphor. There are 5 verses, or 13%, of implied metaphor, 7 verses, or 18%, of visual metaphor, and 3 verses, or 8%, of extended metaphor. The metaphor that appeared the most frequently is a standard metaphor.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology and the high intensity of social media consumption among early adolescents have contributed to the emergence of brain rot, which negatively affects cognitive functioning. This condition highlights the urgency of examining critical literacy as an educational strategy to strengthen adolescents’ cognitive resilience. This study aims to systematically analyze the role of critical literacy in addressing brain rot among early adolescents based on recent scientific evidence. This study employed a systematic journal review design guided by the PRISMA framework. Relevant articles were retrieved from multiple international and national databases using strict inclusion criteria. A total of ten primary studies were analyzed through thematic synthesis. The findings indicate that excessive digital media consumption is associated with decreased attention, memory impairment, and shallow cognitive engagement among early adolescents. Critical literacy was found to enhance reflective and evaluative thinking as well as awareness of algorithmic manipulation in digital media. Moreover, the integration of critical literacy supports improved self-regulation and cognitive resilience. In conclusion, critical literacy represents an effective preventive and corrective strategy in addressing brain rot among early adolescents.
