Abstract

21st-century learning requires students to develop critical, creative, and collaborative thinking skills, as well as the ability to solve contextual problems. However, learning practices in elementary schools are still dominated by expository strategies, which render student’s passive and discourage the development of higher-order thinking skills. Research on the application of problem-based learning strategies to improve critical thinking skills and learning outcomes, particularly in natural disasters, is still limited. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design on 104 fifth-grade students, divided into an experimental class using problem-based learning and a control class using an expository strategy. The instruments, a learning achievement test and a critical thinking test, were tested using Cronbach's Alpha in IBM SPSS Statistics 27, while pretest and posttest data were analyzed using an Independent Samples T-Test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed a significant effect of problem-based learning strategies on improving learning outcomes and critical thinking skills, in line with constructivist theory, which emphasizes active student involvement. This strategy is more effective than expository learning and is recommended for wider implementation.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary schools still faces challenges, particularly in the topic of arithmetic operations with whole numbers, which requires conceptual understanding and precision. Furthermore, learning remains teacher-centered and has not yet optimally utilized digital media. Canva, as a digital medium, actually has the potential to provide engaging and interactive visual displays. This research gap arises because there are still few studies that simultaneously compare the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Canva-assisted Expository Learning and examine the role of mathematical aptitude as a moderating variable. This study aims to analyze the influence of learning strategies, mathematical aptitude, and their interaction on learning outcomes in arithmetic operations with whole numbers up to 100,000. The approach used was quantitative with a 2x2 factorial experimental design involving 86 fifth-grade students. The research instruments consisted of a learning achievement test and a mathematical aptitude questionnaire. The results of a two-way ANOVA analysis showed that Canva-assisted PjBL was more effective than Expository Learning, mathematical aptitude had a significant effect, and there was an interaction between the two, with PjBL being more helpful for students with lower aptitude. This study confirms that Canva integration in PjBL is effective for 21st century learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of learning style-based methods (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) on the outcomes of Pendidikan Agama Kristen (PAK) for fourth-grade students at SDN Inpres Malompo, Nabire. Employing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design, 30 students were grouped according to their dominant learning style. Findings revealed significant improvement in posttest scores across all groups, with the auditory group achieving the highest results. These results highlight the importance of adaptive learning and differentiated strategies in elementary education.

Abstract

E-books and G-Sites are increasingly commonly used in geometry learning in elementary schools; therefore, it is necessary to conduct more intensive research to ensure the effectiveness of this digital media in accordance with the characteristics of students.  This study investigated the effect of these media on Grade 4 students who have different levels of visual-spatial intelligence on their understanding of the subject of geometry. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a 2x2 factorial design, pretest-post-test. The research subjects were 62 students.  This study showed that (1) G-Sites is significantly more effective than e-books in improving geometry learning; (2) students who have high visual-spatial intelligence have a better understanding of geometry than those who have low visual-spatial intelligence; and (3) there is an interaction between digital media and students’ visual-spatial intelligence on the understanding of geometry.  G-Sites are a significantly more effective medium for students with low visual-spatial intelligence.  The conclusion is that the use of digital media for geometry material should consider students’ visual-spatial intelligence.  We suggest that the use of e-books should be combined with concrete media. Concrete media can facilitate the process of externalization from 2D representation to 3D understanding, thereby reducing the cognitive load experienced by low-visual-spatial students.  It is necessary to conduct research by considering other characteristics of students.

Abstract

Technology integration in education is increasingly developing, including the use of Google Earth as an interactive learning medium. However, its utilization in Indonesia is still limited due to the lack of teacher training and access to technology. This research is intended to analyze the trend of Google Earth usage in learning through narrative review method. The study reviewed related literature to identify the fields of study that use it the most, the research methods applied, and the benefits and challenges found. The results show that Google Earth improves learning motivation, student engagement and spatial understanding. However, research is still dominated by short-term experimental methods, so longitudinal studies are needed to measure its impact in the long term. The implications of this research highlight the need for teacher training, supporting policy development, and further exploration in STEM and vocational education.

Abstract

Deep learning in language learning has the potential to revolutionize learning with its ability to process complex data. This study aims to: 1) identify key trends in the use of deep learning, 2) explore the benefits and challenges of implementing deep learning in language learning, and 3) determine future research directions based on gaps found in the literature. This study uses a literature review approach. The study's findings indicate a notable trend in the application of deep learning to a number of languages learning domains, including online learning, sign language recognition, translation, language assessment, and personalized learning. Numerous advantages of deep learning were also noted by the study, including better learning outcomes, higher student engagement, and the creation of creative applications. The study did identify a number of difficulties, though, including the requirement for huge data, infrastructure constraints, and data privacy concerns. The researcher suggests that further research address the various gaps and maximize the potential of DL applications in learning.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low literacy skills and Civics (Civic Education) learning outcomes of elementary school students, which are caused by teacher-centered instruction and the limited optimal use of literacy-based strategies and digital media. The research gap arises from the lack of studies implementing strategies that integrate literacy with interactive media. This study aims to examine the effect of the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) strategy on the literacy skills and Civics learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN Kepanjen 2. Employing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design, the study involved an experimental class applying the RADEC strategy and a control class using an expository strategy supported by Canva. The instruments consisted of expert-validated literacy and learning outcome tests. Data were collected through pretests and posttests and analyzed using an Independent Samples t-test and Tests of Between-Subjects Effects with SPSS 27. The results revealed a significant difference between the two groups, with Sig. 0.000 < 0.05 for literacy and t = 5.757 (p = 0.000) for learning outcomes. These findings confirm that the RADEC strategy supported by Canva is effective in improving literacy skills and Civics learning outcomes and is recommended as a 21st-century learning strategy.

Abstract

Thoughtful Learning has formulated that in 21st Centuries, each students should have 4 C’s learning skill. The 4 C’s skill are critical thinking, creative thinking, communicating, and collaborating. These skills will help students becoming a problem solver. Method of 4 C’s in the classroom needs materials more variaties, contextual, from many resources and differences formats of datas (word, spreadsheed, ppt, video, animation). Materials for learning should be easy to acces in short time. Information Communication and Technology (ICT) can facilitates all these conditions. Generally almost all schools in cities have computers and internet acces but are used as information or school’s publication and do not use yet for learning. The purpose of this activity is to help teachers to create their own Blog to facilitating student’s learning. The result showed that all teachers can create a Blog for their Subject. The next activity is about how to integrating Blog into learning process.
