Abstract

Surfactants are organic materials that act as active ingredients in detergents, soaps and shampoos which can reduce the surface tension of the water so that the particles attached to the materials being washed are released and float or dissolved in water thus polluting the environment. Therefor it is necessary to separate or change them into other harmless materials before being discharged into the environment. One of the methods used is electrocoagulation. The electrocoagulation method is an environmentally friendly method of treating liquid waste by combining the principles of coagulation, flotation and electrochemistry. In this study, the electrocoagulation method was carried out by varying pH and electrolyte concentrations in the simulated surfactant waste treatment. Surfactant levels were determined by spectrophotometer in methylene blue. The optimization of the method is done by determining the maximum absorption length, optimum pH, and the effect of adding electrolytes with different concentrations. The results showed that the maximum absorption at a wavelength of 659 nm. The electrocoagulation process runs optimally at pH 2 with the addition of 7mM Na2SO4 electrolyte resulting in a% removal of 65%.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui (1) penggunaan karbon aktif dari berbagai bahan alami dalam penjernihan air dan (2) penggunaan biji kelor dalam penjernihan air, dan (3) cara menganalisis logam berat dari hasil penjernihan air. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode telaah pustaka yang sistematis, atau biasa disebut dengan Systematic Literature Review (SLR) yang dimana hasilnya menggunakan database artikel online yaitu Google Schoolar. Hasil telaah dari artikel yang berkaitan dengan topik diperoleh bahwa penggunaan karbon aktif atau arang yang terbuat dari bahan alami seperti kayu kesambi, ampas tebu, tongkol jagung, kulit buah durian dan eceng gondok sangat efektif dalam penyerapan zat terlarut air, baik organik maupun anorganik dalam menghasilkan air yang jernih. Selain itu, penggunaan biji kelor juga sangat efektif sebagai biokoagulan dan bioflokulan dalam menurunkan pH, kesadahan, kekeruhan dan total padatan tersuspensi, sehingga memungkinkan munculnya rekomendasi bahwa air hasil penjernihan dengan menggunakan karbon aktif dari berbagai bahan alami dan serbuk biji kelor dapat dijadikan air minum.

Abstract

An analytical method was carried out to identify volatile compounds that play a role in the coffee aroma and their stability. Because it is unstable at high temperatures, the effect of the injection temperature on the GC/MS column on changes in compounds profile was observed. The aim of this research is also to develop analytical methods for coffee analysis using TPI-GC/MS method. Samples of Lemar Arabica coffee were taken from the Wonosantri Abadi plantation, Singosari, Malang, and roasted at 210°C. The roasted coffee was extracted using the soxhletation method and methanol as solvent. The compound profiles were analyzed using the GC/MS method with injection temperatures of 40°C, 140°C, and 240°C. The results showed that ketones, esters, furans, and thiazoles play a role in the aroma of coffee. The compounds present in roasted coffee injected at 40°C were less than those at injection temperatures of 140°C and 240°C based on the chromatograms. The profile of the compound at the injection temperature of 240°C is also more diverse than the others because the large injection temperature allows decomposition to occur so that there are many fractional compounds from the thermal decomposition. Toluene is the most stable compound because it appears at all three injection temperatures. Non-volatile caffeine compounds were also detected at an injection temperature of 240°C.

Abstract

Beluntas leaves (Pluchea indica L.) as Indonesian herbal plants contain secondary metabolites such as flavonoids. Beluntas leaf parts can be used as medicine. The content of secondary metabolites in Beluntas leaves acts as a natural antioxidant. Beluntas leaf extraction has not been optimal so far. Microwave assisted extraction can increase the yield. This research aims to study the effect of giving different types of solvents of extraction on Beluntas leaves on the levels of flavonoids and the resulting antioxidant activity, and determine the profile of Beluntas leaf extraction results based on comparative trials of the maceration method and MAE (microwave-assisted extraction). This research was conducted in 4 stages: (1) sample preparation of dried Beluntas leaves, (2) extraction by maceration with various types of solvents n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and 70% ethanol, (3) the characteristics of the flavonoid compounds, namely the qualitative test and the quantitative test with AlCl3, and (4) the measurement of antioxidant activity in Beluntas leaf extract using the DPPH method. The results of this study obtained a total flavonoid content of 4.23 mgQE/g which was the result of maceration of the ethyl acetate solvent extract (yield: 5.09%), and all Beluntas leaf extracts in ethyl acetate solvent were included in the category of very strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 31.68 μg/mL.

Abstract

Diarrheal is a disease that is widely endemic in tropical countries, especially in Indonesia. The bacterium that causes the appearance of diarrheal diseases is Eschericia coli. Plants that have the potential to be a cure for diarrhea are ketapang (Terminalia catappa L.). Ketapang seeds contain tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins that can be used as antibacterial. This study aims to identify the effect of ketapang seed extract on the activity of E. coli bacteria. Extraction of ketapang seeds is carried out by the soxhlet extraction method with a solvent mixture of water and ethanol 96%. This research is a laboratory experiment. Bacterial growth inhibition test is carried out by the phytochemical test of ketapang seed extract with the addition of FeCl3 solution showed positive results containing tannin compound indicated by the formation of a blackish-green colored solution. Positive control was carried out with amoxicillin and negative control with 70% ethanol solution. The results of the ANOVA test analysis obtained a significance value of 0.963, interpreted that there was a difference in inhibition power in variations in the concentration of ketapang seed extract with the most effective extract concentration being 0.8%. The higher the concentration of ketapang seed extract, the greater the inhibition against the growth of E. coli bacteria, therefore it can be used as a basic ingredient for anti-diarrhea drugs.

Abstract

Learning in higher education has often been conducted solely through face-to-face, teacher-centered approaches. Implementing Community of Inquiry (CoI)-based blended learning in chromatography is crucial as it offers students a novel learning experience. This pre-experimental study, utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest design, aimed to describe students’ perceptions of CoI-based blended learning in chromatography. Data were collected using a questionnaire comprising 34 statements. The results indicated that students had a neutral perception of CoI-based blended learning. While a community of inquiry has been established, it has not yet reached its full potential, as students have not fully experienced social presence in the learning process.DOI: 10.17977/jps.v11i32023p117

Abstract

Ekosistem mangrove Pulau Lusi Sidoarjo memiliki keunikan dan keindahan yang berpotensi besar untuk dikembangkan sebagai ekowisata berbasis edukasi dan konservasi. Langkah utama yang dapat dilakukan dalam upaya pengembangan ekowisata mangrove adalah identifikasi kondisi dan potensi kawasan melalui analisis daya dukung. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis potensi dan daya dukung ekosistem mangrove di Pulau Lusi sebagai ekowisata berbasis edukasi dan konservasi yang dilaksanakan ada pada Bulan Juni-Juli 2022. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif deskriptif dengan pengumpulan data melalui observasi dan survey lapangan. Penentuan daya dukung kawsan dilakukan dengan perhitungan daya dukung kawasan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai daya dukung kawasan sebesar 360 pengunjung/hari dengan potensi flora dan fauna yang sangat beragam serta kandungan logam dan mineral yang sangat melimpah. Berdasarkan hasil analisis dapat diinterpretasikan bahwa Pulau Lusi Sidoarjo memiliki otensi yang besar untuk dikembangkan sebagai ekowisata berbasis edukasi dan konservasi.

Abstract

The banana plant that is still underutilized compared to the fruit part is the heart of the banana. Even though the heart of the banana has many benefits and nutritional content that is good for health. Seeing the potential of the heart of the banana can improve public health, so food diversification efforts such as flour and substitutes for the basic ingredients of food to produce new forms of product innovation, so research was carried out to test its content, which aims to inform the public that the heart of the banana can be beneficial for health in processing into flour. This research was carried out in March-April 2022 at the Chemistry Education Laboratory of Nusa Cendana University, Kupang. There are four stages in this study, including 1) Manufacture of the heart of banana flour; 2) Proximate Test of the heart of banana flour; 3) Diversification of products based on the heart of banana flour, 4) Organoleptic test of products based on the heart of banana flour on 52 panelists. The results of research on the manufacture of banana heart flour are substituents of flour that have good nutritional content with relatively good character if used as a substitute for wheat flour because many parameters meet the quality requirements of wheat flour, namely the physical characteristics of banana heart flour meet the test requirements for shape. In contrast, the aroma, color, and taste in accordance with the characteristics of the nutritional content meet the moisture content proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. In contrast, the ash content does not complete because the mineral content in each ingredient is different and the manufacture of wheat flour. The result of the diversification of the products made, namely the Genital Widow Cake / Monde chips made from banana heart flour, are also included in the excellent category where the aroma, taste, and acceptance of the product are accepted in the community.

Abstract

Lipstik merupakan kosmetik dasar kaum hawa yang membuat wajah penggunanya menjadi segar berseri. Komponen lipstik yang beraneka macam merupakan bahan sintetis yang dapat membahayakan kesehatan. Di alam tersedia banyak pigmen alami yang dapat digunakan sebagai bahan pewarna yang aman bagi pengguna. Oleh sebab itu diperlukan edukasi kepada masyarakat untuk membuat lipstik yang berbahan dasar pigmen alami. Tujuan dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk mengedukasi masyarakat supaya mempunyai wawasan tentang lipstik, komponen yang mendasari, dan memberi keterampilan kepada masyarakat untuk membuat lipstik menggunakan pigmen tanaman. Diharapkan dari kegiatan ini, masyarakat dapat mengembangkannya sebagai produk unggulan UMKM. Sasaran kegiatan ini adalah kelompok ibu PKK yang umumnya berprofesi sebagai ibu rumah tangga. Metode pengabdian meliputi penyajian materi dan pelatihan. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah semua peserta sangat antusias terhadap pelatihan edukasi pembuatan lipstik dan berharap agar dilakukan pelatihan tentang produk kosmetik lainnya. Kata kunci— Lipstik, Pigmen alami, Ibu PKK wilayah Malang Abstract Lipstick is a basic cosmetic for women that makes the user’s face look fresh and radiant. The various components of lipstick are synthetic materials that can be harmful to health. In nature, many natural pigments can be used as safe dyes for users. Therefore, educating the public about making lipsticks made from natural pigments is necessary. This community service aims to inform the public so that they have insight into lipsticks. The underlying components provide the community with skills to make lipstick using plant pigments. From this activity, the community can develop it as a superior product for small-medium enterprises (SMEs). This activity targets a group of women (PKK) who generally work as housewives. The service method includes the presentation of materials and training. The result of this activity is that all participants are enthusiastic about the educational training on lipstick making and hope there will be training on other cosmetic products. Keywords— Lipstick, Natural pigments, Women society in Malang
