Abstract

The purpose of conducting this research was to improve students reading comprehension of short functional text by using Team-Pair-Solo Technique at SMP PGRI 4 Pontianak in Academic Year 2011/2012. Team-Pair-Solo Technique is one of cooperative learning strategies where the students work together in small group, pair and individual. This classroom action research was intended to solve the problems that occurred in the class, which was students difficulty in comprehending a functional text involving main idea, supporting details, vocabulary and reference. The subject of this research was the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI 4 Pontianak class A which consisted of 32 students. This research was done in two cycles. To collect the data, the researcher used written test, observation checklist tables, and field notes. Key words: Team-Pair-Solo Technique, cooperative learning. Abstrak Tujuan dari dilakukannya penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa terhadap teks fungsional pendek melalui teknik Team-Pair-Solo pada SMP PGRI 4 Pontianak tahun pelajaran 2011/2013. Teknik Team-Pair-Solo merupakan salah satu strategi dalam pembelajaran kooperatif dimana para siswa bekerja bersama-sama dalam sebuah kelompok kecil, berpasangan dan secara individu. Penelitian Tindakan Kelas ini dimaksudkan untuk mengatasi masalah yang terjadi di dalam kelas, yaitu kesulitan siswa dalam memahami teks fungsional pendek yang meliputi ide pokok, hal-hal pedukung, perbendaharaan kata, dan kata rujukan. Subyek dari penelitian ini adalah siswa-siswa PGRI 4 Pontianak kelas 8 (delapan) A yang berjumlah 32 siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Dalam pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan tes tertulis, tabel observasi, dan catatan lapangan. Kata kunci: Teknik Team-Pair-Solo, pembelajaran kooperatif.

Abstract

Email : mariaginaveneranda@gmail.com Abstract :  The purpose of this research is to investigate whether or not multipass strategy increase students’ achievement in reading comprehension on analytical exposition text. The method which was used in this research was pre-experimental study. The population of this research was all of eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Raya in academic year 2013/2014 and the sample was taken from class XI IPA 3 which consists of 36 students. The data had been collected by using measurements techniques. The tool of the data collecting was multiple choice tests. The data were calculated and the result showed that the mean score of students’ pretest of experimental group was 59,19 while the posttest was 80,72. The different score between pretest and posttest was 21,53.  Moreover, the result of Effect Size was 1.06 (categorized as “strong effect” refers to the criteria of effect size table). The calculation of the t-test shows that the t-ratio was higher than the t-value (9,08> 2,03 at α 5%). Therefore the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, there was a significance difference of the students’ mean score in reading comprehension on analytical exposition text between pre-test and post-test after the treatment. Key Words : Reading Comprehension, Analytical Exposition Text, Multipass              Strategy Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki  efektifitas penerapan multipass strategi dalam meningkatkan prestasi belajar siswa pada pemahaman membaca teks eksposisi analitis. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian pre-eksperimen. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI di SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Raya pada tahun akademik 2013/2014 dan sampel diambil dari kelas XI IPA 3 yang terdiri dari 36 siswa. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik pengukuran. Alat pengumpulan data berupa tes yang berbentuk pilihan ganda. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan data didapati bahwa nilai rata-rata pre-test siswa adalah 59,19 dan nilai rata-rata post-test adalah 80,72. Selisih nilai antara pre-test dan post-test adalah 21,53. Selain itu, hasil perhitungan nilai efektifitas adalah 1,06 ( termasuk kategori “kuat” berdasarkan kriteria dalam tabel ukuran efektifitas). Perhitungan t-test menunjukkan bahwa t-hitung lebih besar daripada t-tabel (9,08> 2,03 dengan α 5%). Oleh sebab itu maka hipotesis null ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif diterima. Sebagai kesimpulan, ada perbedaan yang cukup signifikan antara pre-test dan post-test pada nilai rata-rata siswa dalam pemahaman membaca teks eksposisi analitis setelah diberikan perlakuan. Abstract

Abstract: This research aimed to improve students’ pronunciation by listening to the audio visual and its transcription of the narrative text of eight grade students of SMP S Khatulistiwa Jungkat in academic year 2013/2014. The writer applied Classroom Action Research which consisted of three cycles. The subject of this research was the second year students of class eight of SMP S Khatulistiwa Jungkat. They consist of 23 students. The data was collected using observation checklist, questionnaire, field notes, and tape recorder. Audio visual media and its transcription improved students’ pronunciation in each cycle and process of teaching and learning pronunciation. The audio visual was played several times and the students repeated by reading the transcription of the narrative text based on the audio. The transcription had been added with symbols to help the students to read the text based on the audio. The repetition of the audio and the transcription of the narrative text helped the students to improve their pronunciation. Audio visual and its transcription helped and encouraged students to learn pronunciation. In conclusion, audio visual and its transcription helped students’ improved their pronunciation. Penulis menerapkan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang terdiri dari tiga siklus. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa tahun kedua kelas delapan SMP S Khatulistiwa Jungkat. Mereka terdiri dari 23 siswa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan lembar observasi, angket, catatan lapangan, dan tape recorder. Media audio visual dan transkripsi yang meningkatkan pengucapan siswa dalam setiap siklus dan proses belajar dan mengajar pengucapan. Audio visual yang dimainkan beberapa kali dan siswa mengulanginya dengan membaca transkripsi teks naratif berdasarkan audio. Transkripsi telah ditambahkan dengan simbol untuk membantu para siswa untuk membaca teks berdasarkan audio. Pengulangan audio dan transkripsi teks naratif membantu siswa untuk meningkatkan pengucapan mereka. Audio visual dan transkripsi membantu dan mendorong siswa untuk belajar pengucapan dengan efektif. Kesimpulannya, audio visual dan transkripsi membantu meningkatkan pengucapan murid-murid. Kata kunci: Pengucapan, Audio Visual, Transkripsi

Abstract

  Abstrak: Penelitian ini menggambarkan cara membangun dan mengoperasikan permainan berbasis PowerPoint untuk young learners dalam mempelajari kosakata bahasa Inggris. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D). Prosedur penelitian ini mengikuti model Borg dan Gall dengan sedikit modifikasi. Langkah-langkah yang dilakukan di dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian dan pengumpulan informasi, perencanaan, dan pengembangan produk. Hasil dari penelitian ini tertuang dalam bentuk 1) petunjuk membangun game berbasis PowerPoint yang terdiri dari 4 langkah, yaitu: mengimplementasikan desain, memberi animasi dan efek suara, memasukkan hyperlink dan mengaplikasikan mekanisme skor, dan finishing, dan 2) petunjuk mengoperasikan game berbasis PowerPoint. Kata Kunci: PowerPoint, Permainan, Kosakata, Young Learners Abstract: This research described how to construct and operate a PowerPoint-based game for young learners to learn vocabulary. The research method was research and development (R&D). The research procedures followed Borg and Gall model with some modifications. The steps conducted in this research were research and information collecting, planning and product developing. The result of this research are in the form of 1) constructing manual of the PowerPoint-based game consisting of 4 steps, namely: implementing the design, giving animation and sound effect, inserting hyperlink and applying scoring mechanism and finishing, and 2) operating manual for the PowerPoint-based game playing.   Keywords: PowerPoint, Game, Vocabulary, Young Learners

Abstract

Abstrak: Peneliti mencoba untuk mengetahui apakah pengajaran kosakata melalui permainan Hidden Mystery dapat meningkatkan kemampuan penguasaan kosakata siswa. Selajutnya, penelitian ini dirancang dalam bentuk pre-eksperimental. Data penelitian diperoleh dari nilai pre-tes dan post-test. Analisis data menunjukan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa dalam pre-test adalah 55,48 (dibawah nilai KKM yaitu 65). Sedangkan nilai rata-rata siswa dalam post-test adalah 70 (diatas nilai KKM yaitu 65. Nilai perbandingan antara post-test dan pre-test adalah 14,52. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa pengajaran kosakata dengan menggunakan permainan Hidden Mystery dapat meningkatkan kemampuan penguasaan kosakata pada siswa. Keyword: Kosakata, Permainan Hidden Mystery   Abstract: The researcher tried to find whether teaching vocabulary mastery through Hidden Mysteries Game can improve students’ vocabulary mastery. Furthermore, this research was designed in the form of pre-experimental research. The data of this research were obtained by doing Pretest and Post-test assessment. The data analysis indicated that the mean score of the students’ pre-test was 55.48 (below passing grade 65.00) while the mean score of the students’ post-test was 70 (above passing grade 65.00). The interval score of post-test and pre-test was 14.52. It means that teaching Vocabulary by using Hidden Mysteries Game can improve the students’ reading skill, especially vocabulary mastery. Abstract

AbstractThe purposes of this research are to investigate whether or not the use of English song  to improve students’ vocabulary achievement in teaching English vocabulary  and to find out the effect size of the improvement of students’ vocabulary achievement after being taught using English song to the eighth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Pontianak. The sample of this research was 34 students in class VIII A. The data of study was derived from pre test and post test. The technique of data collection is measurement technique and the tool of data collection is a test in form of fill in the blanks test. The research findings show that the mean score of pre-test is 75.85while the mean score of post-test is 85.76. It means that English song improves the students’ vocabulary achievement. Furthermore, the effect size of the significant improvement of the treatment was 0.8. It is categorized as highly effective since it is higher than 0.5. The teacher might put some appropriate variations in applying the strategy considering the situation and condition found in the classroom. Keywords: Teaching English, Vocabulary, English Song

Abstract: This research is held to improve the studentsability in writing recount text, especially in organizing ideasthroughTravel Map as media. It is a Classroom Action Research which is conducted in three cycles. The subject of this research is Grade VIII, numbering 39 students. The data is collected by using observation checklist, fieldnote, and test. The data is analyzed by describing the observation checklist and fieldnote, and by using formula of mean score. The results indicate the studentswriting ability in recount text improve in three cycles through Travel Map as media. Key words: Writing,Travel Map, Recount Text Abstrak: Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks recount, khususnya dalam mengorganisir ide melalui Travel Map (peta perjalanan) sebagai media. Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang dilaksanakan dalam tiga siklus. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah Kelas VIII, yang berjumlah 39 siswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui ceklis observasi, catatan lapangan, dan tes. Data tersebut dianalisa dengan mendeskripsikan ceklis observasi dan catatan lapangan, dan menggunakan rumus mencari nilai rata-rata. Abstract

Abstract : The purpose of conducting this research is to improve student’s vocabulary mastery by teaching using Cops and Soldiers Game at first grade students of extracurricular English class of SD Islam Al-Azhar 21 Pontianak in academic year 2013/2014. This research was conducted through A-Pre Experimental design to solve the problems that happened in the class, which was students’ lack of vocabulary. The subject of this research was the first students of extracurricular English class of SD Islam Al-Azhar 21 Pontianak in academic year 2013/2014 which consists of 18 students. The research finding showed that Cops and Soldiers Game improves the students’ vocabulary mastery. The result of the post test revealed that the mean score was 73.33 while their mean score in pre-test was 58.05. it indicated that Cops and Soldiers Game had improved students’ vocabulary mastery on first grade students of extracurricular English class of SD Islam Al-Azhar 21 Pontianak in academic year 2013/2014. In conclusion, Cops and Soldiers Games could improve students’ vocabulary mastery. Hasil dari posttest menunjukkan nilai rata – rata siswa 73,33 sementara nilai rata – rata siswa saat pretest 58,05. Ini menunjukkan bahwa Cops and Soldiers telah meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas 1 SD Islam Al-Azhar 21 Pontianak dalam kelas ekstrakurikuler Bahasa Inggris Tahun Akademik 2013/2014. Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this research was to investigate whether or not Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy effective to teach vocabulary in descriptive text and the effect size of Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy. The method was a pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMP N 19 Pontianak. The sample of this research was VIII B which consisted of 35 students. The data of this research were collected using measurement technique and the tool of data collecting was multiple choice test. The research findings showed that the mean score of pre-test was 59.7 and the mean score of post-test was 70. Furthermore, the data analyzed using t-test resulted that t-test score (5.271) was higher than t-table (2.032) at 0.05 degree of freedom. It means that the  null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The calculation of effect size of the treatment is 0.89. It is categorized as moderately effective. It can be concluded that the use of Think-Talk-Talk (TTW) strategy is moderately effective to teach vocabulary in descriptive text. So, it is recommended to the teacher to use Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy as one of strategies to teach vocabulary in descriptive text. Keywords: Think-Talk-Write (TTW) Strategy, Vocabulary, Descriptive Text.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to know the effectiveness of using Build-A-Sentence Cubes Game in teaching simple past tense. This research was conducted through A-Pre experimental design. The subject of this research was the Eighth Level students of Q-Learning Course Pontianak in academic year 2014/2015 which consisted of 16 students. The technique of the data collecting was measurement technique by administering the written test in form of multiple choices which consists of thirty items. Then, the data were analyzed by effect size formula. The result of the post test revealed that the mean score was 73.2 while their mean score in pre-test was 60.7. The computation of the effect size with the score 0.94 (0.50 to 0.79) showed that the treatment or the use of Build-A-Sentence Cubes Game has the moderate effect in teaching simple past tense to the Eighth Level students of Q-Learning Course Pontianak in academic year 2014/2015. The alternative hypothesis was accepted and the effect of the treatment was categorized as moderate effect. Perhitungan ukuran efek dengan skor 0,94 (0,50-0,79) menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan permainan Build-A-Sentence Cubes memiliki efek moderat dalam mengajar simple past tense kepada siswa Level 8 Q-Learning Course Pontianak pada tahun akademik 2014/2015.
