Abstract

Purpose: This study synthesizes the literature on the relationship between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors, investment outcomes, and firm value. Despite the growth of ESG research, the findings remain fragmented, particularly regarding which ESG dimensions are materially relevant for valuation and investment decisions. Research Methodology: A systematic literature review combined with a bibliometric analysis was conducted using the Scopus database. A total of 67 peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2017 and 2025 were selected based on predefined inclusion criteria, including relevance, accessibility, and journal quality (Q1–Q2 journals). Bibliometric techniques—keyword co-occurrence, author co-citation, and bibliographic coupling—were performed using VOSviewer to identify the key themes and intellectual foundations. Results: The results show a sharp rise in ESG-related research after 2021, with a 35% increase in the number of publications. Themes such as ESG performance, corporate governance, and firm valuation metrics, such as Tobin’s Q, are central. However, studies relying on aggregate ESG scores dominate, and research on specific ESG indicators and dynamic ESG risks, such as controversies, is limited. Conclusions: The findings reveal substantial heterogeneity across institutional and market contexts, explaining the inconsistent empirical evidence. ESG research has grown significantly, but more granular and context-sensitive studies are needed to explore the varying impacts across industries and regions. Limitations: This study was limited to Scopus-indexed, English-language, open-access Q1–Q2 journal articles and did not assess causal relationships. This may exclude relevant studies from non-English journals or other sources. Contributions: This study provides a bibliometric synthesis of ESG investment firm value research, highlighting gaps and encouraging future studies focused on indicator-specific ESG measures and dynamic risks.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic created significant turmoil in global financial markets, including the Indonesia Stock Exchange, where liquidity and stability were severely disrupted by widespread panic and economic uncertainty. Investors faced heightened risks as stock prices fluctuated sharply in response to rapidly changing market conditions. This study examines the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on stock volatility and performance by comparing conventional liquid stocks from the LQ45 index with sustainable stocks from the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) indices. Using daily closing prices from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2023, the analysis employs the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) model to capture volatility patterns. The findings reveal that LQ45 stocks consistently exhibit higher volatility than ESG stocks, yet deliver superior returns across all periods. Conversely, ESG stocks show greater resilience during the pandemic, maintaining relatively stable performance despite lower returns compared to LQ45. These results underscore the value of incorporating sustainable investment strategies, particularly when combined with liquidity considerations, as a means to balance risk and return while enhancing portfolio stability during periods of market uncertainty.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The Anambas Islands is one of the regions in the Riau Islands province with a vast proportion of sea, accounting for 98.74 percent of its total area. Through the mechanism of decentralization, most of the functions of marine and fisheries gradually become part of the affairs of the district/city. The transfer of authority is accompanied by the transfer of financing through a balance fund, so that with the increasing funds managed by the region, it is expected that the development of marine and fisheries will improve. DAK is one of the fiscal instruments of the balance fund, which plays an important role in achieving national priority areas (DJPK 2016). As noted by BAPPENAS (2013) in the national development priorities 2015-2019, the main issues and challenges in the development of marine and fisheries are suboptimal production infrastructure, namely in the capture fleet, ports, agricultural roads, land, and access to business development (capital and markets). The aim of this research is to formulate strategies for managing the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) in the marine and fisheries sector from 2011 to 2016 in the Anambas Islands Regency using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Based on the AHP method, the priority strategies include the evaluation of regulations related to DAK management, the placement of support personnel, socialization and law enforcement, improving coordination systems, and forming Joint Business Groups. Abstract

Background: Indonesia and China are the world's major exporters of plywood. ASEAN+3 is one of the plywood importing regions with a share of 20% so it is one of the plywood export destinations. Purpose: This has led to competition between the two countries in the plywood trade, especially the ASEAN+3 region. This study aims to analyze the comparison of Indonesia and China's plywood export competitiveness in the ASEAN+3 market and the factors that influence it. Design/methodology/approach: This study uses ten ASEAN+3 countries in the 2015-2022 period using the RCA, EPD, X-Model, and regression analysis methods. Findings/Result: The results of the RCA value of Indonesia and China are strongly competitive in the majority of ASEAN+3 countries. EPD shows Indonesia's plywood rising star position in seven countries and China's plywood rising star in only four countries. The X-Model method shows Brunei, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam have the potential to be optimistic markets for the development of Indonesian plywood exports, while Chinese plywood exports have the same potential in Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Conclusion: It is concluded that Indonesia's plywood competitiveness is better than China's. Factors affecting Indonesia's plywood export volume are real GDP, population, export price, RCA value, and real exchange rate of the importing country.Originality/value (State of the art): Therefore, this study recommends several strategies such as market strengthening through certification and improving the quality of Indonesian plywood. Keywords: competitiveness, EPD, plywood, RCA, regression analysis

Abstract

Background: Agricultural systems in ASEAN face increasing pressure from rising food demand; however, prior studies predominantly assess technical efficiency without jointly considering environmental performance and trade-related inefficiency.Purpose: This study evaluates technical and environmental efficiency in ASEAN agriculture and examines how trade dynamics influence this inefficiency.Design/methodology/approach: A panel dataset covering ASEAN countries from 2003 to 2022 is analyzed using stochastic frontier analysis with a translog production function and time-varying inefficiency effects.Findings/Result: The findings indicate that output growth is driven more by efficiency improvements and policy support than by input expansion. Capital contributes significantly to production, whereas land, labor, and fertilizer exhibit diminishing effectiveness. The average technical efficiency reaches 0.68, whereas environmental efficiency remains lower at 0.46, suggesting a persistent sustainability gap. In addition, net export expansion is associated with higher inefficiency when domestic capacity becomes insufficient. Conclusion: Enhancing efficiency, technological upgrading, and environmental sustainability while aligning trade expansion with domestic capacity is essential for long-term agricultural performance.Originality/value (State of the art): This study provides an integrated empirical assessment linking technical efficiency, environmental performance, and trade-related inefficiency in ASEAN agriculture, offering evidence of the alignment of trade expansion with sustainable productivity strategies. Abstract

This study examines the application of Quality of Work Life (QWL) factors to improve employee engagement at PT XYZ. Using a quantitative descriptive approach with purposive sampling of 52 respondents consisting of marketing and non-marketing employees, this study employed Critical Performance Analysis (IPA) and Chi-Square tests to correlate the relationship between QWL factors and employee satisfaction. The results indicate that although employees exhibit high intrinsic motivation and job satisfaction, collaborative communication and long-term commitment need to be improved. The IPA analysis revealed that career development and compensation are important priorities for both divisions, requiring immediate intervention, while other factors are strengths that should be maintained. The Chi-Square test indicated that most QWL factors have no significant relationship with employee tenure or education level, except for career development, compensation, occupational health, pride and safety, which showed a significant correlation with employee profiles. This study concludes that improving strategies in career development and compensation is crucial to improve employee engagement and reduce employee turnover at PT XYZ.

Abstract

This study aims to identify leading sectors that drive regional economic development and to examine the determinants of regional inequality in Southern West Java. Despite substantial development progress in West Java Province, regional disparities remain relatively high, particularly in the southern region, as reflected by the Williamson Index in recent years. This study employs secondary data obtained from official statistical publications and relevant government institutions. The analysis applies Location Quotient (LQ) and Shift–Share methods to identify leading sectors, followed by panel data regression to examine the determinants of regional inequality. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of sectoral analysis and inequality determinants within a unified empirical framework to support regional development policy. The results show that the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector constitute the primary base sector in Southern West Java. Furthermore, road infrastructure and the Human Development Index are found to have a positive effect on regional inequality. In contrast, economic growth and population size have a negative effect, highlighting the importance of inclusive growth and equitable infrastructure development.

Abstract

Indonesia's state-owned construction enterprises must reconcile their public infrastructure role with commercial discipline, particularly after pandemic-related disruption and the accumulation of project-financing pressure. This study identifies the external and internal drivers of performance decline, evaluates corporate performance, formulates turnaround alternatives, and determines strategic priorities for PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk. (WIKA). A multiphase mixed-method design combined archival analysis of corporate and government documents with structured managerial and expert judgment. Internal resources were assessed through VRIO by three directors; PESTLE findings and the integrated SWOT were validated with three directors and four external experts; performance gaps were evaluated through the Balanced Scorecard; and sixteen SMART alternatives were ranked using a Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix. The 2023 results showed a net loss of IDR 7.825 trillion, cash and cash equivalents of IDR 3.233 trillion, and equity of IDR 9.572 trillion. WIKA retained durable underlying strengths in reputation, brand value, and organizational knowledge, though the severity of its financial distress raises questions about the extent to which these intangibles remain undiminished, alongside clear weaknesses in liquidity, leverage, digital integration, talent readiness, and portfolio dependence on government projects. The leading priorities were innovation-led lean management (TAS 41.58), acquisition of green and digital infrastructure projects (40.84), financial risk and backlog monitoring (40.78), strict cost and asset-utilization control (40.65), and accelerated process digitalization (40.53). The findings support a sequenced turnaround architecture that stabilizes cash and project economics while converting intangible strengths into diversified, technology-enabled, and sustainable growth.
