Abstract

Chronological thinking skills are one of the most critical goals in learning history, distinguishing it from other sciences. This skill is not a natural skill that already exists in students but is a skill that needs to be developed in students, especially in studying history. This study aims to develop an instrument for assessing chronological thinking skills with the Rasch model.  The development model adopted the Gall Borg development model by adjusting to the research objectives and needs. The adaptation of the Borg Gall model resulted in four stages in this study: (1) needs analysis and preliminary investigation, (2) planning and preparation of product development, (3) expert validation, and (4) instrument implementation. This research was conducted in Senior High School (SMA), involving 120 students from three schools. Sampling was carried out employing the proportional sampling technique. The data was collected using validation sheets, tests, and assessment sheets (scoring rubric). Data analysis was then performed with the Quest Program utilizing the Partial Credit Model (PCM). The results showed that the chronological thinking skills assessment instrument with the Rasch model was valid and reliable. The validity value of items that fit the model ranged from 0.77 to 1.30, and the instrument reliability value of 0.76 was in the high category. Therefore, it could be concluded that the assessment instrument developed can measure students' chronological thinking skills.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the implementation of the Minangkabau proverbs as a source of democratic values in history learning. The method used in this research used descriptive qualitative research methods with a phenomenological approach. The sample in this study was selected using a purposive sampling technique consisting of 2 teachers of religious subjects and 8 students from each school.  Data collection methods used were interviews, questionnaires and literature studies. The data analysis technique in this research uses Huberman's qualitative analysis technique, which includes stages of data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The results of this research showed that: 1) Minangkabau proverbs contained deep democratic values and were highly respected by the Minangkabau people; 2) The implementation of multicultural education in instilling democratic values based on Minangkabau proverbial traditions with the stages of moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action helped students understand, reflect on, and apply democratic values in everyday life.; 3) The implementation of multicultural education in history learning faced several challenges, including students' difficulties in understanding the relationship between the Minangkabau proverb tradition and history, as well as a lack of adequate understanding regarding these proverbs. The implication of this research was that integrating the Minangkabau proverbs tradition as a source of democratic values in history learning could make a significant contribution to the development of students' multicultural education.

Abstract

The development of historical thinking skills, one must analyze historical event evidence. A thorough, reliable, and trustworthy grasp of history will be created through a variety of historical sources. In order to construct historical narratives, one has to be able to find, recognize, evaluate, interpret, and generalize information from primary source material. In order to fully fulfill this potential, educators must create effective ways. Due to this, the purpose of this study is to (1) explain the value of using original sources to support historical understanding and (2) find ways to use Virtual Field Trip media to help students use primary sources to support their historical learning. A literature review is employed to obtain the answers to the stated research questions. Literature reviews that were pertinent to the issue under study were used to gather research data. The interactive model developed by Miles and Huberman for data analysis included data gathering, data reduction, data display, and conclusion-making. The study's major results point out that (1) using primary source evidence effectively is crucial for developing historical understanding and (2) using virtual field trip media effectively helps students develop higher-order thinking skills, including the ability to use primary sources effectively. According to the conclusions, this article advises teachers to employ learning resources that provide students with hands-on experience.
