Abstract

This study aims to analyze the state's recognition of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) following the enactment of Law No. 18 of 2019 concerning Islamic Boarding Schools and examine its implications for equality in Islamic education in Indonesia. As the oldest and most distinctive (traditional) Islamic educational institutions, Islamic boarding schools have historically received less equal recognition than other formal educational pathways. The enactment of Law No. 18 of 2019 marks a significant milestone in this recognition effort. This study uses a qualitative approach with library research methods to analyze relevant legal documents, policies, and academic literature. The analysis focuses on key articles in the Pesantren Law that regulate institutional recognition, graduate equality, and funding affirmation. The results indicate that Law No. 18 of 2019 provides strong formal legal recognition to Islamic boarding schools, placing them on par with other national educational pathways. The main implication is the realization of equality in Islamic education through: (1) Recognition of Graduate Diplomas/Syahadah Certificates, which enable Islamic boarding school alumni to continue on to higher education and access employment opportunities equivalent to graduates of public schools; (2) Strengthening the governance and education system of Islamic boarding schools, including recognition of the unique Islamic boarding school curriculum (Tafaqquh fiddin); and (3) Provision of facilitation and affirmation from the state, such as budget support, which was previously a major obstacle. However, the implementation of this law also leaves challenges, particularly related to the harmonization of technical policies at the regional level and maintaining the independence and uniqueness of Islamic boarding schools from potential excessive government intervention. This study concludes that state recognition through the Islamic Boarding School Law is a progressive step towards full integration and equality for Islamic education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the planning, organizing, implementation, and monitoring of Islamic educational service marketing strategies to maintain customer loyalty and to explore their implications. A descriptive qualitative case study approach was used, with purposive sampling selecting principals as critical informants and vice principals, teachers, students, alums, and parents as supporting informants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and analyzed using data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that marketing management strategies at MAN 1 and MAN 2 Cilegon City are implemented but must be fully optimized. Planning involves basic strategies but needs thorough identification, segmentation, positioning, and differentiation. Organizing is relatively effective, with clear task divisions formalized by principal decrees. Implementation follows a marketing mix approach (product, promotion, infrastructure, human resources, and processes), yet promotional efforts still need to be increased. Monitoring is consistently conducted by principals and supporting staff. While customer loyalty is evident, indicated by repeat purchases, recommendations, and cross-product purchases, it is limited to existing market segments and does not reach broader audiences.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic education as a central force in preserving, revitalizing, and developing Islamic scholarly traditions and establishing solid educational institutions. This study is driven by observations of socio-cultural dynamics in which Islamic education functions not only as a means of transmitting religious knowledge, but also as an agent of civilization (development) that is relevant to contemporary challenges. The methods used are literature study and qualitative analysis, tracing the history, philosophy, and practices of Islamic education in various settings, ranging from traditional Islamic boarding schools/madrasas to modern Islamic universities. The main focus is to identify how the curriculum, teaching methods, and institutional environment of Islamic education contribute to the transmission of values (morals), thought (philosophy), and practice (fiqh/amaliah) that are the pillars of Islamic civilization and the development of institutions that adapt structurally and managerially to remain relevant, accountable, and competitive in the era of globalization. The results of the study show that the success of developing traditions and institutions is highly dependent on the ability of Islamic education to maintain a balance between asalah (authenticity/tradition) and mu'asarah (contemporaneity/innovation). Successful institutions are those that integrate the strengthening of scientific traditions with the adoption of modern management, thereby producing graduates who possess both spiritual and scientific depth as well as the professional competencies needed by society.

Abstract

The basic education policy, especially the 9-year compulsory education program, is a government effort to improve the accessibility and quality of education for the entire society. The effort to make it compulsory for children to complete a minimum education for nine years has the primary objective of providing equal opportunities for all children to obtain an adequate basic education, improving access to education, reducing school dropouts, and improving the quality of education. Implementation of this policy is expected to have a good impact on reducing school dropout rates and increasing education participation at the elementary level. However, there are many challenges in ensuring the sustainability of the program, such as adequate infrastructure, the availability of quality educational resources, and meeting the needs of students with diverse educational backgrounds. The method used in this research is library studies, which involves collecting literature, gathering relevant data or information, and studying topics or issues related to the development of the Basic Education Policy, Compulsory Learning 9 Years. Therefore, there is a need for efforts in the evaluation and adaptation of this policy in order to achieve the primary objective of equal and quality basic education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the modernization policy of Islamic boarding school education and how it balances the preservation of traditional values with contemporary educational demands. A qualitative approach was employed using a library research method, drawing on scholarly articles, academic books, and relevant policy documents. The findings reveal that modernization in Islamic boarding schools involves curriculum integration between religious and general subjects, innovation in teaching methods, enhancement of institutional management, and the adoption of digital technologies in learning processes. Despite these developments, traditional elements such as the study of classical Islamic texts and the central role of religious scholars remain integral to the educational system. The study implies that modernization policies are essential for strengthening the adaptability and sustainability of Islamic educational institutions. From an educational management perspective, effective integration of innovation and tradition can enhance institutional performance while preserving core values, ensuring that Islamic boarding schools remain relevant in a rapidly changing educational landscape.
