Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to determine the potential of fresh water swamp forest as alternative ecotourism of Sumatran elephants (Elephas maximus sumatranus). The data collection of flora was done by the printed path method, with sampling intensity (IS) 10% so that obtained 34 observation plots; then elephants behaviors were taken at 07.00 - 17.00 WIB for 7 days. The data behaviors of elephants were recorded using a sampling scan method, for 60 minutes by recording the incidence of behavior within 60 seconds. Data were analyzed by calculating the important value index, the Shannon-Wiener diversity index, and descriptif analysis. The results showed that there were 25 types of vegetation with 5 species that have the highest important index value. The diversity of vegetation types based on Shannon-Wiener's diversity index is moderate, 99% of species found are natural feeds favored by Sumatran elephants. Most of the elephant activity is eating (32%), 17% group, 17% rest, and exploring as much as 12%, while salting is done when elephants feel the need for minerals. The management can do reforestation to increase the diversity of vegetation type, especially the Sumatran elephant's natural food species, so that its existence can support the preservation of elephant and educational tourism based on Sumatran elephant conservation.

Abstract

KPH is one solution to the problems of degradation and deforestation in almost the forests in Indonesia.  However, in its  development KPH have constraints in the institutional development of farmer groups that manage land in the areas through partnership programs. Interest of this study was to examine institutional Farmers Group Association (Gapoktan) in KPHP Way Terusan. The data collection was done by interview, and then analyzed descriptively.  The results shown that the process of farmer group (KTH) formation was a response from the partnership program so that farmer didn’t fully understand the direction and aims of KTH establishment. The implementation of the rules in the form of AD/ART didn’t fully done yet because both the board and the members were not involved in the formulation of AD/ART. Farmers believe that the board of KTH able to help the farming development to improve the welfare of the community. Capacity building needs to be done through counseling and training to Gapoktan and farmer groups to become stronger and independent.KPH merupakan salah satu solusi terhadap permasalahan degradasi dan deforestasi yang terjadi di hampir seluruh wilayah hutan di Indonesia.

Abstract

Sekampung Hulu Watershed (DAS) is a catchment area for the Batutegi Dam. Changes in land use due to increasement of human need for land can affect the hydrological conditions of Sekampung Hulu Watershed. This research analyzed land use change to inflow characteristic of Batutegi Dam using descriptive analysis method by analyzing rainfall data, land use change data, inflow data and surface coefficient data. The results showed that there had been decreasing of forest area and the increasing of agriculture land, dry land, and shrubland. It affects the increasing of surface coefficient and decreasing of total inflow. The decrease in total inflow of batutegi dam in 2005 was 7.229,92 m3 / sec and in 2015 was 6.846,82 m3 / sec. This is due to the value of surface runoff coefficient in the Sekampung Hulu Watershed which increased in 2005 and 2015 by 0,23 to 0,34. The amount of surface coefficient value in 2005 and 2015 shows that the Sekampung Hulu Basin has been degraded, therefore it is necessary to restore the condition of the forest through reforestation and greening efforts to increase the water catchment area. Keywords: Sekampung Hulu Watershed; Inflow; Land use change.

Abstract

Open mining activities have caused soil damage, water pollution, air pollution, and damage to vegetation. Limestone post mining is a critical area that must be rehabilitated to be productive again. This problems can be fixed by doing land reclamation activities which mandated in the Mining Law Number 4, 2009. The success of land reclamation is largely determined by the choice of plant species and the provision of appropriate soil enhancers (ameliorant). This study was aimed to analyze the growth response of sengon plants on giving ameliorant in mixed limestone post mining soil. This study was designed in completely randomized design for 7 treatments and 3 replications used combination of ameliorant: P0 (without ameliorant); P1 (AH 4 kg ha-1); P2 (BFA 350 kg ha-1); P3 (FMA 500 spores plant-1); P4 (the combination of AH and FMA); P5 (the combination of BFA and FMA); and P6 (the combination of AH, BFA, and FMA). Data were processed by analysis of variance at the 0,05 significance level followed by the Least Significant Difference test. The results showed that the best growth response of sengon on giving ameliorant in mixed limestone post mining soil was P1 treatment (humic acid material) which significantly increased root length, root volume, root fresh weight, shoot fresh weight, root dry weight, and shoot dry weight in sengon plants. The addition of ameliorant can be recommended to improve the quality of revegetation plants
