Abstract

Sabun adalah senyawa natrium yang terbentuk dari asam lemak dan digunakan sebagai agen pembersih tubuh. Sabun biasanya berwujud padat, mampu menghasilkan busa, dan dapat mengandung bahan tambahan tertentu. Pentingnya, sabun dirancang sedemikian rupa sehingga tidak menyebabkan iritasi pada kulit. Proses pembuatan sabun melibatkan pengikatan asam lemak dengan alkali, seperti natrium hidroksida (NaOH), yang menghasilkan sabun padat, atau yang lebih dikenal sebagai hardsoap. Sabun padat diproduksi melalui metode cold process, tanpa pemanasan, dengan mencampurkan bahan utama berupa minyak kelapa, minyak kelapa sawit, dan minyak zaitun dengan alkali. Kemudian, ditambahkan essential oil lavender dan scrub oat ke dalam campuran tersebut. Proses selanjutnya melibatkan penggunaan hand mixer sebelum dicetak, dengan masa curing selama 2 minggu. Penelitian ini sudah pernah dilakukan sebelumnya yang belum pernah dilakukan adalah memvariasikan bahan dengan penambahan essential oil lavender dan scrub oat sebagai anti inflamasi. Analisa mutu sabun dilakukan berdasarkan SNI No.3532-2021 serta uji fisik sediaan sabun dengan parameter pengujian meliputi kadar air, alkali bebas/ asam lemak bebas, pH, stabilitas busa, dan organoleptik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar air sabun yaitu berkisar 3,4% -7%, asam lemak bebas berkisar 0,38%- 0,78% dan uji fisik yaitu pH berada dikisaran 9,49-10, uji stabilitas busa berada dikisaran 70,66%-79,62% dan uji organoleptik menghasilkan sediaan warna, aroma dan tekstur yang bervariasi. Dapat dilihat dari hasil penelitian ini bahwa sabun padat dengan penambahan essential oil lavender dan scrub oat dengan metode cold proces telah memenuhi standar SNI dan uji fisik yang aman dipakai Kata Kunci:Asam Lemak Bebas, Alkali, Kadar Air, Essential Oil, Ph, Sabun, Scrub Oat, Stabilitas Busa, Organoleptik

Abstract

Kitosan merupakan biopolimer alami yang banyak dimanfaatkan di berbagai bidang, termasuk industri farmasi, karena sifat-sifatnya yang biokompatibel, biodegradable, dan memiliki aktivitas biologi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kondisi optimum dicapai pada suhu 130°C dan waktu reaksi 80 menit. Pada parameter ini, kitosan yang dihasilkan memiliki derajat deasetilasi sebesar 75%, rendemen sebesar 80%, kadar udara 0,85%, dan kadar abu 0,95%.Nilai-nilai tersebut menunjukkan bahwa kitosan yang diperoleh telah memenuhi standar kualitas untuk aplikasi teknis dan memiliki potensi untuk dikembangkan lebih lanjut dalam berbagai penggunaan industri.

Abstract

Bioplastik merupakan alternatif ramah lingkungan untuk menggantikan plastik konvensional yang sulit terurai. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi biodegradasi dan penyerapan air pada bioplastik berbasis kalsium karbonat dan sorbitol. Sampel bioplastik dibuat dengan variasi konsentrasi sorbitol-kalsium karbonat (2,5 ml-0,2 g, 3 ml-0,4 g, dan 3,5 ml-0,6 g) dan diuji biodegradasinya dengan menanamnya dalam tanah. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa sampel dengan konsentrasi 3 ml-0,4 g mengalami penurunan berat badan tercepat, menunjukkan laju degradasi yang lebih tinggi. Uji penyerapan air juga mengindikasikan bahwa bioplastik dengan konsentrasi bahan yang lebih rendah lebih cepat terurai, namun memiliki sifat yang lebih rapuh dan elastisitas rendah. Sebaliknya, peningkatan konsentrasi kalsium karbonat dan sorbitol membuat bioplastik lebih keras dan tahan lama terhadap degradasi. Penelitian ini memberikan pemahaman mengenai pengaruh komposisi bahan pengikat terhadap sifat mekanik dan biodegradabilitas bioplastik, nilai biodegradasi dan swelling dari bioplastik yang didapatkan telah memenuhi standar nasional Indonesia.

Abstract

VCO (Virgin Coconut Oil) adalah hasil olahan minyak kelapa yang diproses dari ekstraksi daging buah kelapa segar tanpa melibatkan reaksi kimia atau pemanasan ekstrem. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji efek dari penambahan Enzim Zingibain yang berasal dari Rimpang jahe terhadap kualitas VCO, dengan fokus pada analisis parameter mutu seperti kadar asam lemak, asam lemak bebas (ALB) dan kadar air. Proses fermentasi dilaksankan dengan variasi jumlah enzim yang digunakan (0, 8 ml, 12 ml, dan 16 ml) dan waktu fermentasi (24, 36, 48 dan 60 jam). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dikethaui bahwa pada VCO tanpa enzim dan fermentasi selama 24 jam, asam lemak utama yang teridentifikasi adalah Decanoic acid methyl ester, Lauric acid, Myristic acid, dan Hexadecanoic acid. Sementara itu, VCO dengan enzim 8 ml dan fermentasi 48 jam mengandung senyawa tambahan seperti Octanoic acid ethyl ester, Zingiberene, Dodecanoic acid methyl ester, dan beberapa ester asam lemak lainnya. Untuk analisa bilangan asam lemak bebas menunjukan nilai rata-rata 0,1% hingga 0,2%, baik pada VCO tanpa enzim maupun dengan penambahan enzim zingibain. Pada hasil analisa kadar air pada VCO yang diolah secara enzimatis menunjukan hasil yang sangat rendah dengan kadar air sebesar 0,002% dan kadar air tertinggi sebesar 0,01%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa seluruh sampel VCO memenuhi standar minyak kelapa sesuai SNI 7382-2008 asam lemak bebas tidak melewati 0,2% dan kadar air tidak lebih dari 0,2%.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengekstraksi dan mengkarakterisasi α-selulosa dari limbah kulit kopi Arabica sebagai upaya pemanfaatan limbah biomassa lignoselulosa yang melimpah namun belum optimal digunakan. Ekstraksi α-selulosa dilakukan melalui tahapan pretreatment asam menggunakan HNO₃ 3,5% dan NaNO₂, dilanjutkan proses delignifikasi dengan NaOH (2% dan 3%) serta pemutihan bertahap menggunakan NaOCl dan H₂O₂. Variabel bebas dalam penelitian ini adalah konsentrasi NaOH (2% dan 3%) serta waktu ekstraksi (1,5 jam, 2 jam, dan 2,5 jam). Proses karakterisasi dilakukan menggunakan metode Chesson-Datta, FTIR, XRD, dan SEM. Hasil terbaik diperoleh pada perlakuan NaOH 2% selama 2 jam dengan nilai yield 31,93% dan indeks kristalinitas tertinggi sebesar 87% berdasarkan analisa XRD. Spektrum FTIR menunjukkan keberhasilan penghilangan lignin dan hemiselulosa, sementara analisis SEM memperlihatkan morfologi permukaan selulosa yang lebih halus dan homogen. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kulit kopi Arabica berpotensi sebagai sumber α-selulosa berkualitas tinggi yang ramah lingkungan dan bernilai ekonomis. Abstract

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency, most land in Indonesia has experienced degradation. Total area of critical land in Indonesia reaches 9,681,356 hectares, much of which is utilized for plantation activities. One of the regions significantly affected by this condition is Aceh Province, where extensive plantation areas are dominated by ultisol soils. The soil in this area is characterized by acidic conditions, low organic carbon content (approximately 0.5–2%), and moderate to very low total nitrogen levels (<0.50%), indicating inherently low soil fertility. These conditions ultimately result in reduced crop productivity, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable soil amendment strategies that can simultaneously improve soil chemical properties, enhance soil structure, and restore long-term soil fertility.  To address this issue, the utilization of biochar derived from biomass waste, such as coconut shells, is considered a promising solution. Biochar has been widely reported as an effective soil amendment capable of mitigating soil degradation, improving soil fertility, and supporting sustainable agricultural systems. However, the effectiveness of biochar is strongly influenced by its physicochemical properties, which are determined by both carbonization conditions and activation methods. In this study, the use of NaOH as an alkaline activator is expected to not only increase biochar surface area and reactive sites but also contribute to soil pH adjustment, which is particularly beneficial for acidic ultisol soils. This study aims to directly evaluate the effect of NaOH-activated biochar on plant growth and analyze the characteristics of the resulting biochar based on SNI 7763:2024. The biochar was produced through a carbonization process with varying residence times of 30, 45, 60, and 75 minutes at a temperature of 300 °C, followed by chemical activation using NaOH solutions with concentrations of 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 N for 3 hours to obtain optimal biochar characteristics. The results demonstrated that NaOH-activated biochar had a highly significant effect on plant height. The application of activated biochar improved soil structure by enhancing texture and porosity, reduced soil acidity, and promoted root development, which collectively increased nutrient availability and uptake by plants. The best moisture content and pH were achieved at 75 minutes of carbonization with 2.5 N NaOH, reaching 8.88% and 9.5, respectively. The highest C-Organic content was obtained at 30 minutes of carbonization and 2.5 N NaOH concentration, which was 55.80%. The relatively high C/N ratio indicates that the biochar is highly potential as a soil amendment to enhance soil fertility and crop productivity. Overall, NaOH-activated biochar had a highly significant effect on plant height by improving soil structure and creating more favorable conditions for plant growth.

Abstract

The use of natural materials like rattan in eco-friendly composites is gaining attention in materials engineering. However, its hydrophilic nature and interaction with other materials can affect mechanical strength. This study investigates how variations in rattan size and alkali treatment influence the tensile properties of single rattan strips through an epoxy dipping process. Rattan was prepared with varying lengths (5–15 cm), widths (3–8 mm), and a consistent thickness (0.5 mm). Alkali treatment used 5% and 10% NaOH concentrations for 1 and 24 hours. Tensile testing showed that a 5 cm × 8 mm strip achieved the highest tensile strength (49.95 MPa), Young's modulus (3562.77 MPa), and low strain (5.4%), while the 15 cm × 3 mm strip had the lowest strength (9.48 MPa) and modulus (475.69 MPa) with higher strain (10.32%). A 5% NaOH treatment for 24 hours improved adhesion and performance, while 10% caused degradation.

Abstract

The incorporation of wood dust and crumb rubber waste as filler in polymer matrix composite still requires in-depth evaluation of mechanical properties because they have different characteristics. This study evaluates the tensile, flexural, and hardness properties of epoxy composites reinforced with various fractions of wood dust and crumb rubber (5, 10, and 15%). The results showed that the composite with 5% crumb rubber produced the highest tensile strength of 15.52 MPa (CR5), while the highest flexural strength was 30.46 MPa (CR10), and the highest hardness was 75.9 HRC (CR15), indicating superior performance for CR fillers. The observations of the fracture surface showed that increasing the fraction of wood dust contributed to lowering the mechanical performance due to the relatively large distribution of voids and agglomeration. This finding confirms the importance of filler type and fraction selection on composite performance. Future research is recommended to explore filler surface modification and hybrid combinations to improve dispersion and bonding between phases in composites.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of increasing the concentration of natural filler on the mechanical properties of Spent Coffee Ground (SCG) / Coffee Husk (CH) reinforced epoxy matrix composite. The materials used in this study are epoxy resin as a matrix and waste coffee grounds and coffee husks as natural fillers with sizes of 100-mesh and concentrations of 10, 20, and 30 wt.%. The results showed that SCG 10 wt.% produced the best mechanical properties compared to the other samples based on tensile strength (19.58 MPa), tensile modulus (1.70 GPa), flexural strength (44.55 MPa), and flexural modulus (2.32 GPa). On the other hand, CH 30 wt.% contributed the highest hardness value of 50.33 HRB compared to other samples. The findings in this study prove that the appropriate composition will affect the compatibility between the filler and the matrix, thus impacting the mechanical properties of the composite. This phenomenon can be seen based on microscope analysis, which shows a strong interaction between the matrix and filler and the formation of voids and agglomeration

Abstract

This research examines biochar manufacture from waste coffee grounds and wood dust using the dry torrefaction method with a temperature ratio of  250°C  and 300°C. The adhesive used at 5% shows a calorific value of 6,786 cal, volatile matter 81.82%adb, water content 1.79%ar, and ash content 9.52%adb. Meanwhile, the adhesive at 7% obtained a calorific value of 6,264 cal, water content of 3.9%ar, volatile matter 81.82%ab, and ash content of 14.29%adb. The results of the functional group analysis with FT-IR of the two torrefaction biobriquettes showed the presence of CH and OH groups originating from cellulose compounds, indicating that the carbon quality in the torrefaction charcoal is still high. Activated charcoal products produced through torrefaction are briquettes using tapioca flour adhesive to be molded as bio briquettes, and the results are tough and not easily broken.
