Abstract

This study examines the role of university-led Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs in enhancing community-based renewable energy literacy through a comparative analysis of Universitas Pembangunan Panca Budi (UNPAB), Indonesia, and Polytechnic Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (PTSS), Malaysia. As the global transition toward sustainable energy accelerates, universities are increasingly expected to contribute to environmental education and community empowerment. Using a qualitative comparative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, documentation, and field observations of CSR activities conducted by both institutions. The findings reveal that CSR programs integrating renewable energy education significantly improve community knowledge, awareness, and practical skills related to solar energy, waste-to-energy systems, and energy conservation practices. The study also highlights differences in program design, stakeholder engagement, and implementation strategies between UNPAB and PTSS, shaped by institutional capacity and national energy policies. Furthermore, the research underscores the importance of cross-border academic collaboration in strengthening sustainable development initiatives. This study contributes to the discourse on CSR in higher education by offering a model for integrating renewable energy literacy into community-focused programs and providing strategic recommendations to enhance future CSR-based sustainability efforts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of transformational leadership and work environment on employee performance with organizational commitment as an intervening variable at the Medan Belawan District Office. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method by distributing questionnaires to 51 employees as respondents. The sample was determined using a purposive sampling technique so that the data obtained is in accordance with the research objectives. The data were analyzed using path analysis techniques to determine the direct and indirect effects between variables. The results of the study indicate that transformational leadership has a positive and significant effect on organizational commitment. The work environment has a positive but insignificant effect on organizational commitment, so its indirect effect on employee performance is also positive but insignificant. Organizational commitment also has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. Thus, organizational commitment acts as an intervening variable that mediates the effect of transformational leadership on employee performance but not the work environment. The results of this study are expected to be input for leaders in improving employee performance through the application of a transformational leadership style, creating a conducive work environment, and strengthening organizational commitment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of job promotion and job training on employee performance, with job ability as an intervening variable at the Medan City Education and Culture Office, North Sumatra Province. The problem raised in this study is the suboptimal improvement of employee performance even though promotion and training programs have been implemented. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. The research sample consisted of 113 permanent employees at the Elementary School and Guidance unit, selected by total sampling. The data analysis technique used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on Partial Least Square (PLS). The results showed that there were two rejected hypotheses, namely job promotion had a positive but insignificant effect on employee performance and job training on performance through employee ability and five more hypotheses were accepted. These findings indicate that improving individual competence is key to optimizing the results of human resource management policies. Therefore, it is recommended that organizations continue to encourage performance-based promotions and training that is in accordance with work needs to improve employee performance as a whole.
