Abstract

This study focuses on the innovation of converting abandoned land into organic waste disposal sites (OPC) as an eco-friendly solution to combat environmental degradation and promote sustainable urban agriculture in Simoketawang. The study found that most abandoned land is poorly managed, resulting in negative environmental impacts. The study conducted workshops with Family Welfare Movement (PKK) stakeholders, including planning, material procurement, and practical implementation of the POC. The process involved re-enriching organic waste with fresh water and air, resulting in significant improvements in community knowledge and skills. The research results show that the implementation of POC can significantly reduce environmental degradation by 70% and improve community welfare by 95% or 50,000 per month. The activity also highlights the importance of environmental protection, soil nutrition, and social learning in urban agriculture practices. However, the community service also highlights the need for ongoing training, which requires collaboration with local governments to implement the program. This activity contributes significantly to assessing community skills and transforming abandoned land into a model for sustainable urban agriculture.

Abstract

Augmented reality (AR) is one of the technologies that can be integrated in learning. However, more in-depth information on the advantages of AR is still needed. This systematic review aims to review various studies on AR in science learning and the positive impact of its use that have been published in Scopus indexed journals. The inclusion and exclusion model used is PRISMA. This SLR uses 44 articles found in Scopus indexed journals in 2019-2023. These studies are original articles published in English and are open access.  The results of this study show an increase in AR research in science learning. AR research in the field of science learning is most dominantly carried out using a quasi-experimental approach. There are five countries that have the most publications on the theme of AR. Augmented Reality has been widely implemented at various levels of education and makes a positive contribution to learning. The positive impact of using AR can improve visualization, motivation, learning experience, and student personnel in science learning. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the focus of AR will continue to grow in the modern era supported by technological advances. This trend is reflected in the distribution of year, authors, keywords, research types/methods, author nationality, and international collaboration.

Abstract

Vulnerable individuals feel the massive impact of climate change. Climate research emerged decades ago, causing severe damage to Earth. This issue leads the educational setting to tackle the causes, risks, and impacts on human civilization. The growing interest in Climate Change Education (CCE) and the obstacles associated with tackling this issue provide an opportunity to perform a systematic review to better understand the actions that can contribute to global climate change education. A semi-systematic literature review identified 28 international journal articles published between 2017-2024. These publications, retrieved online from the Scopus database, created a foundation for searching for CCE objectives and contextual focuses. This study also reviewed Indonesian curriculum documents to determine the appropriate place for implementing climate change education. Through this study, we found that CCE became the primary focus of discourse around the world with the desired learning objectives. Based on a review of the Indonesian curriculum, the CCE can be integrated into science, biology, physics, chemistry, and geography. Nevertheless, it has become necessary for educational policy makers to create a CCE map that includes the subject, topics, and audience.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to ascertain how the problem-based learning approach affects students' critical thinking abilities in courses on conservation biology. This study design uses a non-equivalent control group in a quasi-experiment. Essay exam questions totaling 10 valid and reliable numbers served as the study's instrument. Pre-test and post-test questions were used to gather data. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistical tests, namely the covariance (ANCOVA) analysis with pretest values as variables at a significance level of 0.05%, were used to evaluate the research data. The IMB 23 SPSS program was utilized for data analysis because the data were homogeneous and regularly distributed. The findings demonstrated that, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, there was a significant difference in the critical thinking abilities of students taught using the conventional model and those taught using the problem-based learning model. The conclusion is that in conservation biology classes, the problem-based learning approach helps students develop their critical thinking skills.
