Abstract

Hewan uji diberi pakan lamun. ABSTRACTCadmium which accumulated in animals could cause carcinogenic, mutagenic and teratogenic. In this research, non factorial experiments conducted in Complete Random Design (CRD) 6 level with 7 replication for 4 weeks, in order to examine effect of Cd heavy metal treatment toward apoptosis through caspase-3 protein activation in sea urchin Deadema setosum.  Research conducted in LIPI Ambon laboratory using 6 aquarium tank size 100 x 60 x 70 cm3. Each tank was filled with 200 litres of sea waters that being replace once a week. Treatment concentrations in tanks  are containing 0.0, 1.0, 3.0, 6.0, 9.0, and 12.0 µg/L dissolved Cd. In each tank there is one level Cd concentration treatment level, and each tank was filled with 7 Deadema setosum individual as replication. The age of animals is approximately 8 month with the weight 90 gram and body circumference 15 cm. These animals were fed with seagrass. Measurement of Caspase-3 protein concentration was conducted in heparin organ using the method Caspase Colorimetric Assay kit, while apoptosis examination was conducted by painting technique using Hematoxilen-Eosin (HE) in Physiology and Histology Laboratory of Medical Faculty Brawijaya University. Research data concerning caspase-3 protein concentration was analyzed by One Way Anova and further test was calculated by  Duncan 0.05. Result of this research showed that Cd treatment is significantly increasing caspase-3 protein content; higher Cd content, caspase-3 protein would essentially higher. Caspase-3 protein concentration in treatment concentration of 12 µg/L is the highest compared to control treatment. Histological description of Deadema setosum heparin organ that experiencing apoptosis based on HE painting is in accord with each recorded caspase-3 protein concentration. This result showed that caspase-3 protein has the potential to become one alternative in Cd pollution biomonitoring at celluler level of Deadema setosum in the sea.

Abstract

The IUCN Red List classifies the green tree frog (Rhacophorus reinwardtii) as a frog that is Least Concern. One study that has never been carried out in Indonesia concerns the spatial distribution of the green tree frog based on Geographic Information System (GIS) applications and the habitat characteristics in East Java. It is vital to map the spatial distribution of the green tree frog in East Java and identify its habitat characteristics because the amphibian diversity surveys that have been conducted so far are the only ones available. This study is quantitative descriptive in design, with studies of pertinent literature as supporting sources. Cruising and the Visual Encounter Survey (VES) method are the techniques employed. A Geographic Information System (GIS) application is utilized in the computational method to create a spatial distribution analysis by gathering information on the locations of interactions with green tree frogs. Based on findings from studies conducted in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Area (TNBTS), the Tancak Kembar Waterfall Area in Bondowoso Regency, and the Ironggolo Waterfall Area in Kediri Regency, there are 16 green tree frog meeting points recorded on the iNaturalist application for the Our Reptile Amphibian Observation Movement (GO-ARK) project and 3 points from the outcomes of field observations. In East Java, environmental factors such as altitude, slope, rainfall, NDVI, land cover, and proximity to rivers have a significant impact on how green tree frogs are distributed spatially. Although green tree frogs in East Java frequently forsake water bodies and choose to live in high-level plant types, they also frequently occupy a variety of water bodies. The green tree frogs discovered at the research location are categorized as favoring continuous habitats with boundaries for colony development.

Abstract

Enhancement of students’ creativity and problem-solving is essential to science education. The learning accentuating students’ interaction to generate creative ideas becomes the ideal forum for developing those two skills. This study aims to amplify the current understanding of the effects of readingconcept mapping (Remap)–cooperative learning on college students’ creative and problem-solving skills. For cooperative learning, we used group investigation (GI). This study involved 60 college students from three Biology Education classes. Further, each class consists of 20 students with Remap-GI, GI, and conventional learning. The analysis results suggested that the creativity and problem-solving skills of students from all classes increased, with the most significant increase observed in students attending Remap-GI class which also presented substantial differences from the other two classes. In conclusion, GI presents positive effects in enhancing prospective teachers’ skills. However, an additional structured program (Remap) is still required to improve the future teachers’ contribution to their group.

Abstract

This study aims to improve and describe science process skills (SPS) and conceptual understanding (CU) college students through guided inquiry learning with Moodle (GI-Moodle). This quasi-experimental study used a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design. College students taking general biology courses at Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering (FSTT), Universitas Pendidikan Mandalika (UNDIKMA) participated in this study. They were divided into three classes: the experiment, control 1, and control 2. Their SPS was measured using an essay test instrument containing 18 items, while the CU was examined using 50 items multiple choice test and 5 items essay test. The obtained data were analyzed using the analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) test. The analysis results identified different average students’ SPS and CU before and after they attended the learning processes using GI-Moodle, guided inquiry with WhatsApp group (GI-WAG), and structured inquiry with WhatsApp group (SI-WAG). The experiment class attended learning using GI-Moodle presented a more significant increase of SPS and CU than the students attending the other two learning with GI-WAG and SI-WAG. Therefore, the GI with Moodle learning can be used to improve students’ SPS and CU during post COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, further studies are suggested to use a more number and broader participants and identify the influence of GI-Moodle on other variables.

Abstract

In Malang City, a notable observation within the realm of high school biology education suggests a prevalent lack of metacognitive knowledge among teachers, hindering their efficacy in nurturing students' metacognitive capacities. Such deficiency yields implications for diminished cognitive abilities among students. Recognizing this, there emerges a pressing need for an enhanced pedagogical framework capable of fostering metacognitive skills adeptly. One promising approach involves integrating inquiry-based learning and problem-based mindful pedagogy (PBMP). This amalgamation is anticipated to synergistically harness the potential of both methodologies in bolstering metacognitive skills alongside cognitive learning outcomes. This study adopts a correlational research design, wherein data encompassing metacognitive skills and cognitive learning outcomes are systematically gathered. Methodologically, the evaluation entails the integration of metacognitive skills assessments with cognitive learning outcome metrics. Subsequent analysis is conducted via regression analysis, employing a significance threshold of 5%. Statistical examination is facilitated through the utilization of SPSS 17.0 for Windows. The findings of the analysis unveil a discernible relationship between metacognitive skills and cognitive learning outcomes across distinct biology lessons. Notably, the extent of metacognitive skill contribution to cognitive learning outcomes exhibits variance. Particularly noteworthy is the pronounced impact observed within the Inquiry-PBMP class setting, indicating its superiority over alternative pedagogical models in cultivating metacognitive skills and subsequently augmenting students' cognitive learning achievements.DOI: 10.17977/jps.v11i32023p092
