Abstract

Vaname shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is valued as a superior variety, however, knowing the parameters of water quality is needed, so the role of water is very important to pay attention to according to the needs of Vaname shrimp. The purpose of this study is to analyze the value of water quality parameters in the Vaname shrimp farming area which includes temperature, Total Suspendid Solid (TSS), pH, salinity, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and ammonia in CV. Prince of Manggala Abadi. Analysis activities were carried out at three stations, namely Station I (Selindung river), Station II (shrimp pond) and Station III (pond wastewater). This research method uses the Storet method and wastewater holding capacity. The results of parameter measurements on the water quality of the three stations are in accordance with quality standards, namely temperature, Total Suspendid Solid (TSS), salinity, pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO) and Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD). The results of water quality measurements that are not in accordance with quality standards, namely ammonia parameters. The calculation of river water quality status (Station I) using the Storet method shows a total score of -4. The results of calculating the status of wastewater quality using the carrying capacity of water pollution loads show BPA < BPM, where wastewater is still in accordance with quality standards. Regular measurement of water quality parameters can allow anticipating the impact on Vaname shrimp resulting in productivity levels. In overcoming fluctuations in environmental parameters, it is necessary to change water, pony, and administer probiotics periodically.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between mangrove density and gastropod abundance in Tuing Beach, Bangka Regency. Mangroves have an important role in coastal ecosystems, providing habitat and food sources for a variety of organisms, including gastropods. Gastropods are a group of mollusks that are commonly found in mangrove ecosystems and play a role in the food chain as decomposers. This study was conducted by survey method at three different research stations, where data on mangrove density and gastropod abundance were collected through the square transect method. The study showed that there was a positive relationship between mangrove density and gastropod abundance at all research stations. Station 2 showed the highest mangrove density with a value of 1.733 ind/ha, while the highest abundance of gastropods was also found at Station 2 with a value of 20,3 ind/m². A simple linear regression analysis showed that mangrove density contributed significantly to the variation in gastropod abundance, with the value of the determination coefficient (R²) varying between 0.732 to 0.904 at all three stations. In addition, environmental parameters such as temperature, pH, salinity, and dissolved oxygen are also measured to understand the environmental conditions that affect the distribution of gastropods. The results of this study can provide important information for sustainable management of mangrove ecosystems, especially in maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem stability in Tuing Beach.

Abstract

Cultivating fattening mud crabs (Scylla serrata) usually requires a large area of land, innovation is carried out by making crab apartments. The research was conducted in September – November 2023, crab fattening locations in Pagarawan Village and Takari Beach, Bangka Regency. Location of mud crab morphometric measurements at the Aquatic Resources Management Laboratory, Bangka Belitung University. Test protein content at the DKI Jakarta Regional Health Laboratory. This research aims to examine the morphometrics, protein content and survival of mud crabs in crab apartments in Pagarawan Village and Takari Beach. Experimental research methods and community involvement to measure morphometrics, protein content and crab survival. The results of the research show that the ratio between weight, width and length of mangrove crabs in Pagarawan is 1.6:1.4:1. This shows that mud crabs are fatter. When the crab weighs around 160 grams, it is likely that the carapace width is ±14 cm and the carapace length is ±10 cm, while the crabs in Takari are smaller and thinner. The protein content of mangrove crabs in Pagarawan has an average value of 17.5 gr/100gr and in Takari 15.1 gr/100gr. The survival rate (SR) of mangrove crabs in Pagarawan is 87%. This condition means that crabs are suitable for cultivation in crab apartment boxes with a water source from a recirculation system pond. It is assumed that water pollution due to ammonia will not have much of an impact. The survival rate for mud crabs in Takari shows a zero percentage. The narrow space, food waste, and circulating water with an ammonia content of up to 0.05 mg/l are thought to have contributed to the crab's death. Water quality in both crab rearing areas shows that temperature, pH, salinity, DO, ammonia, nitrate and phosphate are still within the normal range for rearing mud crabs.

Abstract

The identification of mangroves thriving around river estuaries is essential for managing natural resource potential in the Selindung Sub-Watershed. This study evaluates the mangrove resource potential and the livelihoods of crab trap fishermen in the Selindung Sub-Watershed, part of the Baturusa Watershed. Conducted from June to November 2024 in Pagarawan Village, Merawang District, Bangka Regency, this research employed a mixed-method approach, integrating qualitative and quantitative analyses, to identify mangrove species and assess the mangrove crab (Scylla spp.) fishery. The results revealed significant natural resource potential in the Selindung Sub-Watershed, encompassing 349 hectares of mangrove forests with dense canopy cover (≥80%), classified as high-quality habitat. Ten mangrove species were identified, including dominant taxa such as Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Rhizophora mucronata, and Sonneratia alba. The mangrove crab fishery represents a vital livelihood for local fishermen, who supply their catch to Fish Farming Groups (Pokdakan) for fattening purposes. The sustainability of this fishery is closely tied to the health of the mangrove ecosystem. To ensure the long-term preservation of mangroves and their associated resources, sustainable management policies are required, supported by adequate budget allocation, law enforcement, capacity building, equitable supply chain advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and community education. These measures are critical for fostering ecosystem resilience while supporting the socio-economic well-being of local communities.

Abstract

The study was conducted from March to September 2022. The locations for sampling were in 5 districts on Bangka Island, namely Sungailiat, Merawang, Mendo Barat, Toboali, and Gabek Districts. The tests were conducted at the Microbiology Laboratory at Universitas Bangka Belitung and CV. DAM in Petaling Village, Mendo Barat District, Bangka Regency. The method used the formula for relative abundance, dominance index, water quality, and the Total Plate Count (TPC) method to calculate the number of microbes. The results showed that there were 5 large samples that had relatively high abundances sequentially, namely tawes (Barbonymous gonionotus) 28.05%, catfish kelik / lembat (Clarias nieuhofii) 20.73%, tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) 9.76%, swamp fish (Trichogaster trichopterus) 9.76%, and tepalak fish (Betta simorum) 7.32%. The dominance index value is 0.16, including low dominance, meaning that no species dominates significantly from the sample. Based on the relative abundance, dominance index, and species distribution chosen the type of catfish kelik is a candidate for probiotic LAB isolates. The abundance of fish in kolong, swamps, or rivers is determined by the characteristics of their aquatic habitat, like catfish that live in the natural swamp with water quality entities being the limiting factor. It is supposed that these fish had a wide tolerance, and a strong immune system, and were supported by beneficial bacteria in the body of the fish. The number of microbes in the sample of catfish kelik (Clarias nieuhofii) was 1.4 x 10⁹ CFU/ml which was higher than the number of microbes in tilapia, vaname shrimp, mackerel.
