Abstract

Abstract

The Baronang fish (Siganus guttatus) is an economically valuable species commonly found in seagrass ecosystems, which serve as critical habitats providing food, spawning, and nursery grounds. This study, conducted from June to August 2024, aimed to examine the length-weight relationship, growth patterns, and the influence of environmental parameters on Baronang fish growth. Fish samples were collected using beach seines of various mesh sizes. The length-weight relationship in June followed the model W = 0.12L².19 (R² = 0.72), in July W = 1.07L⁰.34 (R² = 0.99), and in August W = 2.72L⁰.674 (R² = 0.94), indicating varying degrees of correlation across months. Growth analysis using the von Bertalanffy model showed an asymptotic length (L∞) of 154.00 mm and a growth coefficient (K) of 0.51/year. In August, the estimated L∞ was 19.95 cm, K = 1.01/year, and t₀ = 0.176. The fish reached a length of 88.97 mm in the first year and 150.95 mm by the sixth year, with growth slowing down after this period. Environmental parameter analysis revealed that temperature had a significant positive effect on fish weight (B = 14.664, p < 0.001), while salinity (B = -5.920, p = 0.005) and dissolved oxygen (DO) (B = -28.357, p = 0.001) had significant negative effects. These findings highlight the importance of environmental conditions in regulating the growth of Siganus guttatus in seagrass ecosystems.

Abstract

Land clearing for mining operations can potentially cause severe damage to coastal and marine environments. Restoration of post-mining areas can be addressed through closure and recovery efforts, particularly via coral reef rehabilitation. This study aims to determine site suitability for coral reef rehabilitation or marine reclamation in the waters of Tanjung Siangau. Conducted in August 2023, the study used a multi-parameter map overlay method to produce a suitability map for reef rehabilitation. Parameters considered include bathymetry, turbidity, current velocity, wave conditions, substrate type, reef exposure, protection status, proximity to coral donor sources, community involvement, and marine spatial zoning. Findings indicate that areas damaged by coastal and marine activities require reclamation, including coral rehabilitation. Reclamation of post-mining lands must adhere to Indonesian Law No. 3 of 2020 and the Mineral and Energy Resource Ministerial Regulation No. 26 of 2018. Overlay results revealed the highest suitability score in the southern waters of Tanjung Siangau, an area categorized as moderately damaged coral cover (<50%). Local community reports indicate that this area is not mined due to the absence of tin deposits. The recommended site for coral reef rehabilitation lies outside of any licensed mining concession and is situated within an Underwater Tourism Zone in accordance with the Coastal and Small Islands Zoning Plan (RZWP3K).

Abstract

Women have an important role in the coastal community's family. The nutritional status of adult women is one of the determinants of the birth of a qualified national generation. Nutritional status can be analyzed by the BMI value, which is influenced by internal and external factors. This study aimeed to analyze the nutritional status of adult women on the coast of Rebo Village, Bangka Regency and to analyze the factors affecting the nutritional status of adult women on the coast of Rebo Village, Bangka Regency related to socio-economic conditions (income level, education level, daily activities).  This field research was conducted in May-August 2020. The research sample was determined by purposive sampling, 120 female respondents who came from different hamlets in Rebo village. Collecting data on nutritional status and socio-economic conditions using a closed questionnaire. The BMI value showed that 72 adult women have ideal body weight, while 48 people were not ideal. The results of the chi-square analysis showed that the level of education and the level of activity have an influence on the BMI value of adult women, while the income level does not affect the BMI value. Further research can be carried out by examining the dietary consumption patterns and health status of adult women. The results obtained can be used as a basis for making policies or programs to improve the welfare of coastal families in Rebo village, which have an impact on the ability to access the variety and quality of daily food.

Abstract

The welfare of the fish farming group of Pagarawan Village, Bangka Regency, and their wives, can be increased by utilizing natural resources maximally. Pagarawan Village situated in Baturusa Watershed Selindung Sub-Watershed, has an extensive mangrove ecosystem which feature mangrove crab (Scylla sp.) opportunity. This program is a part of efforts to strengthen the capacity of coastal women in the downstream processing of agromaritime products such as mangrove crab and renggining that is made of cassava. Activity Start Date End Date from June to July 2025 at the Kulong Kelat Sukses Fish Farming Group (Pokdakan KKS) in Pagarawan Village, Sub-District of Merawang, District of Bangka, Province of Kepulauan Bangka Belitung. The method is participatory and applied based on strengthening the women members of fish farmers’ group with local potential as an active community of women involved in household economic activities. The result of the activity showed that the training on crab and cassava based renggining processing was comprehendible and managed to improve the technical capabilities of its members in the production process of crab and cassava based renggining, the packing of renggining, as well as the selling of the product. This empowerment has translated into a higher familial income and higher status of women in household financial matters. Beyond producing economic benefits, the use of mangrove crabs has an ecological advantage by controlling the total exploitation rate of small and large mangrove crabs in the mangrove ecosystem. It also encourages an entrepreneurial mindset and solidarity among members which could evolve into a women’s economic institution. The programʼs success requires strong community participation, sustainable technology and intensive academic training. This agromaritime downstream-based empowerment model has proven to be effective, sustainable, and replicable in other coastal areas with similar characteristics, provided it is supported by cross-sector collaboration and village empowerment programs. Overall, the program strengthens the local economy, enhances the role of women, and supports the conservation of coastal resources.
