Abstract

The rapid advancement of the times demands that children develop critical thinking skills to solve problems, one of which is by utilizing mathematical concepts, such as angles. However, many elementary school students still struggle to understand the concept of angles, necessitating contextual learning media. One effective approach is integrating regional culture, such as the Jaranan Turonggo Yakso dance. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of STY Cards as a learning medium in enhancing fifth-grade students' understanding of angles at SDN 1 Prigi. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques include formative assessment results from LKPD (Student Worksheets), interview instruments, and observation instruments. The collected data were analysed using Miles and Huberman's techniques: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The STY Cards guided by the LKPD were effective in improving students' understanding of angles, enabling them to draw angle shapes, identify angle measures, classify angles, and conclude the definitions of various types of angles. The use of STY Cards in group settings also improved students' social skills. The integration of culture into angle learning through STY Cards provides significant benefits for students' daily lives. Students can develop numeracy skills by applying angle concepts to solve problems, such as determining correct posture or alignment, while also contributing to the preservation of regional cultural heritage.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of a zero-waste culture through sustainable ethnopedagogy as a contribution to achieving SDG 12’s goals in Surabaya, focusing on Citraland Fresh Market, Dinoyo Keputran Waste Bank, and Keputran I Elementary School. Using a qualitative, descriptive-analytical approach, data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The Citraland Fresh Market reduces single-use plastics and promotes responsible consumption, though behavioral changes among traders and consumers remain challenging. Dinoyo Keputran Waste Bank effectively manages waste at the community level, but infrastructure and participation require improvement. Keputran I Elementary School integrates sustainable ethnopedagogy via waste management projects, fostering cooperation and environmental awareness. The study concludes that collaboration among markets, waste banks, and schools strengthens local efforts toward SDG 12’s goals. Policy support and sustainable education are essential to ensure wider adoption and effectiveness of the zero-waste culture.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of traditional Damar Kurung art from Gresik as a medium for learning mathematics to improve the understanding of the concept of volume in elementary school students. Damar Kurung art, known as a three-dimensional wood carving art, was chosen as a learning aid to visualize the concept of volume in real terms. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method involving observation, interviews, and documentation in the classroom that applies Damar Kurung art as a medium for learning mathematics. The results of the study are expected to show that the use of this traditional art can help students understand the concept of volume in a more contextual and interesting way. In addition, this study also aims to provide alternative learning methods based on local culture, as well as to contribute to innovation in mathematics learning at the elementary school level. Thus, it is hoped that Damar Kurung art can be an effective and relevant learning medium in improving students' understanding of mathematics.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Ludruk, a traditional Javanese performing art, in fostering communication skills, self-expression, and social development among elementary school children at SDN Gunungsari. Using a qualitative research design with a descriptive and analytical approach, the study investigates how Ludruk education influences children's interpersonal interactions and emotional expression. The research involved a purposive sample of teachers, students, and relevant stakeholders, and data were collected through interviews, observations, and literature studies. The findings indicate that Ludruk not only enhances students’ verbal and non-verbal communication but also encourages self-confidence and collaboration, which are crucial for social integration. The study highlights the importance of incorporating cultural arts like Ludruk in elementary education, demonstrating its potential to develop students' communication and social skills in meaningful and engaging ways. The research underscores the relevance of traditional arts in modern education and their role in holistic child development.

Abstract

This study examines the role of self-awareness in the development of social-emotional competencies among primary school students. Self-awareness, as a key aspect of emotional intelligence, enables students to recognize and manage their emotions, understand their strengths and weaknesses, make decisions, express their thoughts, and evaluate their actions. The research was conducted at SDN Bogoarum 2, with 16 students from grades 5 and 6 as subjects. Data were collected using a self-awareness questionnaire based on Daniel Goleman’s theory, complemented by interviews with teachers. The results showed that 68.75% of students exhibited a high level of self-awareness, while the remaining 31.25% scored lower. The study found that self-awareness positively influenced emotional regulation, decision-making, and self-expression. However, areas such as making decisions and articulating thoughts needed further improvement. These findings underscore the importance of self-awareness in fostering emotional and social development in students, which is crucial for their academic success and interpersonal relationships.
